With a massive push on the environmental impact of our transport, we’re asking people around Cardiff if they think electric vehicles are the future, or if we should focus on getting people back on public transport.

00:00Transport and its impact on the environment isn't a new issue.
00:09It's been discussed at length for some time.
00:11Electric vehicles are the newest means of tackling the problem,
00:14but do we really need new?
00:15Or should we instead be focusing on the old
00:17and encourage more people on public transport
00:19to help the impacts of climate change?
00:21I'm asking people in Cardiff for their thoughts.
00:24Driving public transport reduces the emission of carbon dioxide
00:29and obviously the more people using a particular vehicle,
00:33the less pollution there will be.
00:35I think the focus should be people using public transport,
00:41like the buses now, because not everyone can afford an electric car.
00:45An electric car is very expensive than a regular fuel-based car.
00:50So I think the focus now should be on the public transport, yes.
00:56I really quite like Germany at the minute
00:58that's had free public transport for some years now,
01:00which is great because you've got to get to work.
01:02Free public transport.
01:04Cycle lanes, massive things.
01:06First time I've lived in a city
01:07and it's beautiful to not actually need a car,
01:09to be able to just ride around on a push-by.
01:11I think you should focus on public transport,
01:14but I think no need to change much.
01:16Yeah, I think getting the train, getting the bus is useful
01:21and then if no need to change, I think we're really good.
01:24I mean, it's fine.
01:26Well, I'm not anti-electric cars,
01:29but if they want to get us off the road
01:32and they're trying very hard to by turning roads into taxis and buses only,
01:36they've got to increase the public transport.
01:40Electric vehicles I think is a good push,
01:43but I don't think the technology is quite there yet.
01:45I think, personally, hydrogen is a better way to go.
01:48Just, you know, buy a little bit of electric current and water.
01:50You can create hydrogen.
01:51Hydrogen is free.
01:52It's got no emissions.
01:53I think that's probably the way to go.
01:56I mean, I'm not saying don't use electric cars.
01:58I think it's a great thing, but I travel around a lot,
02:01so for long distances, et cetera, it's not really that great, you know?
02:05Ten people, they will come to city centre by ten cars,
02:08but one bus, it's enough for them.
02:10So, yeah, public transportation, it's helped to, like,
02:13to avoid many bad impacts of cars or even of electric vehicles.
02:19But the thing is, first, we need to, like, make it more cheap
02:24so all can use it.
02:26Second, it needs, like, to make it, like, how you can say,
02:29more effective, like, goes everywhere for everybody.
02:33Everybody can use it all the time, 24 hours,
02:36so people can rely on that.
02:39Yeah, you know, it's expensive like electric cars,
02:41and I think, like, fuel is more durable.
02:46I think, yeah, getting electric cars would be more expensive,
02:50and I don't think there's much need to change.
02:52I don't mind electric cars, but I don't think we need to push for any more.
02:55So, yeah, I just find the way it is.
