Wild winds have lashed parts of Victoria bringing down trees and causing large-scale power outages. Gusts of more than 100 kilometres an hour were recorded in some areas, and the state emergency service received more than a thousand calls for help.

00:00Rubes ripped apart, trees uprooted and a crane sent swinging as damaging winds tore through Victoria.
00:12It was strong, it was very very strong and scary. My wife just couldn't sleep.
00:17St Kilda and Point Cook, Warrnambool and Wilsons Promontory were hit with gusts between 90 and 120 kilometres an hour.
00:27We had several trees on cars, two very early yesterday afternoon with people in them.
00:33We also had a person trapped under a tree at one stage earlier in the day as well, but all good news they all got off to hospital okay.
00:41State emergency service crews worked through the night, mostly to clear down trees.
