00:00Well, emergency services were certainly kept busy today as temperatures soared into the 40s.
00:08In Roquewood, south of Ballaras, heli tankers and several fire trucks were called in to put out a grass fire
00:14that was travelling down Payne's Bridge Road towards Shelford,
00:17but fortunately appears to have mainly affected a remote area of grassland.
00:21Further west, fire crews were also tasked with putting out multiple fires in Little Desert National Park
00:27that were believed to have been started by dry lightning.
00:30It prompted evacuation warnings, with campers and visitors to the park urged to immediately leave the area.
00:36Well, here in Melbourne, fire authorities mopped up the aftermath of a grass fire in Altona in the city's west
00:42that was believed to have been deliberately list yesterday.
00:45It required at least three heli tankers and more than a dozen fire trucks to extinguish,
00:49and for some residents, the grass fire came just a little too close for comfort.
00:54You can definitely see the red, bright flames, like, you know, peaked up individually, like a picket fence.
01:02They're all like that.
01:04Really seeing run up to the sky, just ferociously.
01:08Probably a couple of kilometres, at least three, four kilometres.
01:12It's a fair bet.
01:13And it's burned out from here all the way literally to the train tracks.
01:16Now, lightning didn't just cause problems for fire crews.
01:19Near Phillip Island, a band of lightning caused power outages to about 5,000 homes and businesses
01:25in the Basque Coast area, popular with tourists.
01:29Today, crowds flocked to the beach, many looking to find relief from the swaltering temperatures,
01:34while others simply looked to enjoy the sunny weather.
01:36Yeah.
01:37Underfooting the beach, we have to climb up the clouds for the years.
01:39We'll be gorgeous.
01:59As you can see, if the weather's got the same set, in the area,
02:02we'll never cross the funnel orskaah.
