00:00It was beginning to turn into a sunny blue sky day here in Melbourne this morning before
00:06grey skies and rain started pelting down once again.
00:10The clean-up from the storms overnight is continuing.
00:13Wind gusts of more than 100 kilometres per hour lashed the bayside suburbs of Melbourne
00:19and in the regions hit the south-west and north-east of the state.
00:24Dozens of properties have been damaged and about 20,000 people were hit with power outages
00:30which are ongoing.
00:31The SES has received at least 1,200 calls for help and that's mainly been for branches falling
00:37onto properties and roads in Melbourne and in the regions.
00:41The Victorian SES State Duty Officer has been giving a warning to people to remain vigilant
00:47today.
00:48Here's what he had to say.
00:49It's definitely the wind.
00:52They're just really urging people to be vigilant when they're out there.
00:56Branches may fall down even without a lot of wind around because the trees are stressed.
01:01So drive to the conditions that you see on the road and please be patient if you have
01:06requested help.
01:07Our volunteers are doing an amazing job clearing all these.
01:10They will get to you.
01:11We've heard reports of branches hitting a moving car and a person who was walking along
01:17the road in Melbourne.
01:18They have been unharmed and were able to walk away from that incident.
01:22In the regions, trampolines have hit the sides of houses because of those strong winds.
01:27There's been extensive roof damage and a balcony has collapsed.
01:31There are ongoing warnings for strong winds today as this cold front continues to move over
01:35Melbourne CBD and hit the east of the state into Gippsland.
01:39People and drivers are being urged to remain vigilant of their surroundings because branches
01:45are going to continue to fall.
01:47The cold front is expected to continue into next week across Melbourne so it's going to
01:52be a very cold start to spring.
