When you want to get into something as broad and vague as art, you need to start somewhere. Either it be marking paper with pencil, studying about various concepts and theories, or simply stating that it’s what you want to do. However, a great place to start is by stating some goals that will drive your skill-building, actions, and general direction.
For instance, I am not just an artist or even a digital illustrator. I am a cartoonist. The goals highlighted below are the reasons why I decided to go down this path in particular.

00:35As an aspiring comic artist, making a comic that touches the hearts of thousands of people would be a massive accomplishment.
00:43Perhaps it won't be my first comic, or even my tenth, but I have hopes that some projects of mine would take off and become my greatest accomplishment.
00:52While having my comics be popular is not my only motivation, it is strongly connected to my main motivation of bringing others joy utilizing my creative skills.
01:01After all, the more popular a comic is, the more people it makes happy.
01:06The more people it makes happy, the more popular it is.
01:09This self-reading loop is an ideal situation that satisfies both goals.
01:14There are many stories I love to tell in all sorts of mediums.
01:20Unfortunately, many of these things I can't do alone.
01:23Anime shows and movies require crews, and stories on certain topics or cultures would be easy to mess up unless there is someone with those experiences who can at least help out.
01:33While a major studio is not needed to achieve many of these things, having Dexive Studios become much bigger than myself and amplifying many voices would be a magical thing to achieve.
01:46If it's in the mainstream, there is likely to be merchandise for it at Hot Topic.
01:51Hot Topic is one of my favorite stores to shop at, to the point where working at a Hot Topic is one of my retail career goals.
01:58It would be a big honor if one of my works gets licensed to them.
02:02While the odds of this happening are frankly quite low, reaching for what seems to be impossible is exactly how you make it happen.
02:09The first step is typically writing these types of things down, so I'd say I'm on a fairly decent track to reaching that one day.
02:16But out of all the business-based goals I have, the most important object on my bucklist of all is to bring others joy with my creations.
02:29Art is a noble and wonderful thing capable of bringing people together and gaining them through rough times.
02:35Either it would be depression, a stressful day, or a bump along the way.
02:40Art can be a good pick-me-up that brings comfort and make the day at least a little better.
02:49Whether you wish to make a top tit in the music industry or craft a New York bestseller,
02:53having some goals in mind is a great place to start for all kinds of artists.
