00:00How much does it cost to send children to school across Europe?
00:09As children return to school, European families are once again bracing for a very expensive September with education costs on the rise.
00:19German families are hit particularly hard. The estimated cost of sending a child to school is around 3,600 euros a year.
00:31That's 4% more than last year and higher than the latest inflation rate of 2%.
00:38In the UK too, school costs are outpacing inflation, reaching a minimum of over 2,600 euros a year for middle school pupils,
00:49a staggering 30% increase over the past 2 years.
00:55Italian families will spend nearly 600 euros a year for middle school students and more than 1,200 euros for high school students.
01:05In Spain, expenses are set to rise by around 2%, surpassing 500 euros.
01:12France is the only large economy in Europe to see a drop in costs, down to just 211 euros in 2025.
01:22That's also thanks to state measures that brought the cost of books for families close to zero.
