On Thursday's edition of Zolak and Bertrand, the guys debated whether or not the team should interested in Jakobi Meyers, following the former Patriots requesting a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders. Mark Dondero makes the case for the team TO NOT trade for the former Patriot.

00:00A lot of people, myself included, have Stephon Diggs penciled in as the number one receiver here
00:04in New England. You do not. No. You got no. Pop Douglas? I think Pop Douglas, but again,
00:10based on what I've watched, I don't know if they feel the same way, but I'm going to ride with it.
00:15I think Pop Douglas is going to have the biggest year for any receiver on the New England Patriots,
00:20and I'm going to just comment on the comments that we just heard because that's what we're doing.
00:24I'm shocked at this whole Jacoby Myers thing. I do not want Jacoby Myers. I'm not all up in—
00:30I just think Jacoby Myers was a nice player here. He left, and it was a disaster moving off of him
00:38for Juju Smith-Schuster. Turns out that didn't work out. I am all set. I want Pop Douglas.
00:44I think he's better. I think he's more explosive. I saw what Jacoby Myers did with Josh McDaniels.
00:49It was fine. I want to see what other guys do with Josh McDaniels. I am out on Jacoby Myers.
00:54I am out on that life, that team he was involved with, that culture that was here when he was here.
00:59Out. I don't want to see him. He couldn't catch touchdowns. I don't want to do it.
01:03I want better, more explosive. This team, this offense needs to become more explosive.
01:09Explosive. I don't want anything close to what they were in 2021 or whenever he was here.
01:14More explosive. Bigger, faster, quicker, better. Give me Diggs.
01:20And I'm not—you know how I feel about Diggs. I'll take my chance.
01:23Give me what Diggs used to be and see if he can find some magic with McDaniels in May.
01:27Give me Pop Douglas and feature him and get him up and going.
01:31Give me Travion Henderson. More explosive. I don't want Jacoby Myers.
01:34With respect, I'm done. I'm out on him. I don't want him back.
01:38I don't like what he represents because I didn't like that era of Patriots offense.
01:41Dundaro, I'm with you, man. I'm with you on this.
01:44Yeah, and I stand by that tweet. I got a lot of crap from that tweet.
01:47I stand by that tweet 100%.
01:49Fowler's throwing this up here. Dundaro tweeting out,
01:52Pop is more explosive. He's more dynamic.
01:55I'm more interested in what Pop could do with McDaniels
01:57than what Myers did do with McDaniels.
02:00I stand by it. I just want to see.
02:03I don't know if they're going to feature Pop as much as I want,
02:06but I think he's better. I think he's more explosive.
02:09I felt better about Pop Douglas than I ever did about Jacoby Myers.
02:14And Jacoby Myers was fine, but he was fine.
02:16I'm done with fine. I want some explosive production offensively.
02:20I think with Jacoby Myers back in the fold,
02:22you are raising the floor of what the offense can be, right?
02:25You are raising the floor.
02:26Yes.
02:26You know that there's going to be a baseline of success
02:28that comes with Jacoby Myers.
02:30I'm with you. I want to see ceiling.
02:32I want to see ceiling moving forward.
02:33And so Diggs maybe has not had the camp that you're hoping for.
02:37Hopefully, he continues to progress, continues to improve
02:41in terms of the health there.
02:42So I'm all for seeing Stefan Diggs in this offense for a full season.
02:47And Pop Douglas in year three, can he actually make that jump
02:51and turn into that receiver that you're describing?
02:54Let's see it. It's time now.
02:56It's time for Pop Douglas to get that opportunity
02:58and see if he can actually be a full-time receiver
03:01and reliable for a full season.
03:03And if he can't, if he gets hurt, if he's not able to sustain the hits
03:07and all the things that he's going to deal with over the middle
03:09or whatever, fine, we'll know it.
03:11We'll figure that out, and then we'll act accordingly.
03:13But I want him featured.
03:15Good things have happened when he's been around the football.
03:18What am I seeing that they're not seeing?
03:20I want him featured, and I want to see what his ceiling can be.
03:23And I want this ceiling of the Patriots' offense this year
03:27to be at as high a level as we've seen in the last five years,
03:30and that includes when Jacoby Myers was here.
03:32We don't need to raise the floor.
03:34Drake May's good enough.
03:35He'll raise the floor.
03:36I don't need Myers.
03:37I want to see what these guys can do now with McDaniels
03:39and what we think is a competent coaching staff in offense
03:42and even maybe offensive line.
03:44We'll see what happens with the Jacoby Myers potential trade here
03:46where he winds up across the NFL.
03:48One trade that did not happen was the Vikings deal for Kendrick Bourne.
03:52That fell apart.
03:53What did you make of that?
03:54Were you surprised?
03:55Were you upset that Kendrick Bourne isn't here in New England anymore?
03:58No.
03:59I liked Kendrick Bourne.
04:00I just felt like it's been so long.
04:03Dundaro, I think Kendrick Bourne is one of the most overrated players
04:05that have come across here in New England in a very long time.
04:08He was a nice player for one season in 2020.
04:10He had a nice year.
04:12We talk about Kendrick Bourne like he was a stalwart here
04:15for a long, long time.
04:17He's a fine player.
04:19How many people have tweeted,
04:21well, this is my favorite Kendrick Bourne touchdown from his team?
04:24Like, he's some legend.
04:25It was fine.
04:26It was a group of 2021.
04:27He had a good catch against the Cowboys.
04:30That was fun.
04:31Then he got hurt.
04:32We never saw him again.
04:34I don't understand.
04:35I was fully expecting him to be cut.
04:38And, you know, thank you.
04:39He was a good guy, I guess.
04:41Whatever.
04:41No, great interview.
04:42Great interview.
04:43We had him at the beginning of training camp.
04:45Yes, absolutely.
04:45Great sense of humor.
04:46All that stuff.
04:47I get it.
04:48Did not pop at all during training camp before he got hurt.
04:51And, again, we're talking about the younger receivers.
04:53I know what you're going to get with Kendrick Bourne at this point.
04:55But 2021, by the way, long time ago.
04:58Long time ago.
04:58Especially when we're talking about the NFL.
04:59I want to see younger players get the opportunity.
05:02Or guys like a Matt Collins, who's had success as well with Josh McDaniels in the past,
05:08get that opportunity.
05:09So I was fine with it.
05:10You know what?
05:11You thought you could potentially flip him here, get him to go to Minnesota.
05:14That's fine.
05:15Didn't work out.
05:17It is what it is.
05:18I'm totally fine with them moving on from Kendrick Bourne.
05:20Absolutely.
05:21Again, it's just I'm not trying to bury anyone that was associated with some of those other teams.
05:28But I just I want some new blood.
05:30I want some new a new dynamic to turn the page.
05:33I want to see, like you said, what can Pop Douglas do if featured?
05:37What can K'Shawn Booty do if featured?
05:39We'll see what Diggs has left in the tank.
05:41I want them to lean on Travion Henderson.
05:43I want them to call plays they haven't called in years.
05:46High school plays need to be retired.
05:49I'm done with those.
05:50You can keep your screen passes every so often.
05:53But sideways things and little short things that aren't going forward aren't what I'm looking to see now.
06:00Not with Drake May, the number two, three overall pick, whatever he was,
06:03and all this capital you spent at the top of the draft, Henderson, all these guys that you brought in.
06:08You need to be an NFL offense now.
06:10Dave is in Amherst, wants to weigh in on the Pats.
06:12What's up, Dave?
06:13Hey, guys.
06:14That's a great show.
06:15And, Don Daryl, you're on fire, man.
06:17You're telling it like it is.
06:19It's like we don't want the three-yard pass for first and, you know, third and five.
06:24But anyways, even to jump on what you're saying, it's a loser mentality because you go down 10, 14 points
06:32and the other team stacks the box and you're just stuck, you know.
06:37And one thing I'll say, too, is that McDaniels, since Brady, to me, there's times where he deserves criticism.
06:43He's been tight.
06:44He's been conservative.
06:45He held back, you know, on the passing.
06:48So, it's still to be determined if he can do it.
06:51Let's see if he can do it.
06:52Appreciate the show.
06:53Thanks.
06:54T-Mac, you play golf.
06:55Not well.
06:56Okay.
06:56But I love golf.
06:57Yeah.
06:58Okay.
06:58And I just, for a golf analogy, I'll make a golf analogy at any point I can.
07:02I don't, I'm done seeing, I don't want the Patriots hitting seven iron off the tee all season.
07:06You know?
07:07Because it's safe and we'll just get in the fairway and we'll just stay alive and keep it in there and just get to the, no, no, no.
07:14You got to hit driver.
07:15And that's what Drake May is supposed to be.
07:16You're bombing drives.
07:18Hole after hole after hole, unafraid.
07:20And you're going for it.
07:21And if you mess it up, you'll find a way to get back on schedule.
07:24But you need to be aggressive and play without fear.
07:27And that's what I'm hoping.
07:28I agree with you 100%.
07:29I think that's misplaced, though, if you're blaming Josh McDaniels for that.
07:32Because you had Mac Jones and Cam Newton that swung the golf club like Charles Barkley.
07:38So you don't have them whip out driver, right?
07:41Right.
07:41But this is.
07:41You have to play to that player's strengths.
07:43And I think that's what Josh McDaniels, as the caddy of that offense, told them.
07:48Right?
07:48And that's what the expectation was.
07:50Now, if you have that same type of offense, if the handcuffs are on Drake May,
07:54if the governor is on and you're not pushing the ball down the field with the weapon that
07:59you have in Drake May, that is a huge, huge mistake.
08:02I just, I find it hard to believe.
08:05We had David Andrews, who's going to start with us next week, I believe, on talking about
08:09the differences in the offense with the quarterbacks that they had and how McDaniels played to those
08:14quarterback strengths.
08:15And we've seen what Drake May is capable of, whether that's with his legs or pushing
08:20the ball down the field.
08:21And when you have those in your bag, I find it hard to believe that McDaniels is going
08:27to leave those and not touch those clubs.
08:29Because you're right.
08:30That's a huge disservice to the offense if you're not utilizing those.
08:35So you say disservice?
08:36I would say it's a huge problem.
08:39Because if they don't think they could trust Drake May to do that or to swing that club,
08:44whatever you want to call it, make those plays.
08:47You think that's more telling of Drake May than it would be McDaniels?
08:50All I know is the developmental period should be about over.
08:53I know he didn't start the season last year.
08:55He didn't come into whenever that was.
08:57He had the preseason is what it is now in the NFL.
09:00But I'm talking about by the time you get to the middle of the season, the developmental
09:04period's over.
09:04You're in year two.
09:05No, we should see a huge jump.
09:07That's correct.
09:07Not only from year one to year two, but Drake May at the end of this year should be a
09:12completely different quarterback than what we see in week one.
09:14So if you're talking about kid gloves and protecting them and doing all this, that needs to end
09:20quickly because he should be in a position where he understands defenses and he can make
09:25plays that a true number three overall pick NFL quarterback should be capable of making.
09:32And if I don't see that by the middle of the year, you got a big problem.
09:35You got a big problem.
