00:45And in Palestine, medical sources in the Gaza Strip recorded 10 more deaths from acute malnutrition in the last 24 hours.

01:04Hello and welcome to From the South. My name is Belen de los Santos. I'm from the Tessera Studios in Havana, Cuba.
01:10We'll begin with the news.
01:11We'll begin with the information.
01:25In Venezuela, President Nicolás Maduro accused the United States of violating the 1967 Tlatelolco Treaty,
01:32which declared Latin America and the Caribbean as nuclear weapons-free zones.
01:37The heads of state warned the international community about Washington's aggressive actions
01:42and said that they undermined the peace of Latin America and the Caribbean.
01:47President Maduro also affirmed that Venezuela will not accept any supremacist attitude from anyone
01:53nor any interference in the region.
01:56The head of state praised the international solidarity with Venezuela
01:59and highlighted, in contrast, the isolation of the U.S. government's aggressive policy.
02:09Venezuela, here in South America, a land of peace,
02:16and with great goals with Africa, Europe, Eurasia, Asia, etc.,
02:21Venezuela is a country admired in the world, loved in the world, not only by governments,
02:29which are showing an impressive example of solidarity toward us,
02:33especially now after Venezuela was threatened with a nuclear submarine,
02:37violating the Tlatelolco Treaty, which prohibits the mobilization, use,
02:42and manufacture of nuclear weapons in Latin America and the Caribbean.
02:48Venezuela is receiving an impressive example of global solidarity.
02:54The Venezuelan Ministry of Defense announced the results of the operation of the Bolivarian Armed Forces
03:01in response to U.S. aggressions against the country.
03:05Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez highlighted the people's response
03:08to President Nicolás Maduro's call to arms in defense of the homeland.
03:13He also described the day as a success in the face of the media counter-revolution,
03:19which creates lies with the aim of making people believe that the country functions as a narco-state.
03:26Padrino LĂłpez emphasized that the country remains firm and is working to combat any aggression.
03:32We saw this past weekend, on Saturday and Sunday,
03:43even with the haste and the short time we had to organize ourselves to respond to that call,
03:49that the people took to the streets with their smile, with their strength, with their testimonies,
03:55because it was not simply a matter of signing a form and saying here I am,
04:03with my body, with my soul, with my mind, to defend the homeland.
04:09They also took to the streets to strongly reject,
04:12as you know dear brothers, comrades, vice ministers,
04:19also the inspector general of the armed forces who are here with me today,
04:25they came out to reject with firm determination.
04:33Venezuela's Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino LĂłpez in this way also described as false
04:38the media campaign against the Venezuelan people that seek to destabilize the country.
04:42And there, always, the counter-revolutionary media,
04:50making it look like the opposite.
04:53Always creating, always walking in their lies,
04:57in their fake news, in their manipulations.
05:01It's absurd.
05:02It's like what the North American imperialism is trying to do to us.
05:07The people of Venezuela, trying to fabricate a lie that has very, very short legs,
05:15and impose a criminal narrative on us,
05:19and position it throughout the world,
05:22and even on the people of Venezuela,
05:25so that they will believe that this is how the state functions.
05:32The Venezuelan state does not function as a narco-state.
05:37How grotesque, how vulgar, and how far we are from such a situation.
05:44We have to say this with great humility, but it is the reality.
05:52And trade between Venezuela and Colombia reports growth in Venezuelan exports of up to 92%.
05:59Caracas trade with Bogotá is notable for the export of products such as iron and steel castings,
06:05fertilizers, aluminum, fuels, oils, and organic chemicals.
06:10Venezuela is promoting the diversification of its exports,
06:13incorporating new products, and strengthening its international trade relations.
06:17And one of the key initiatives is the entry of the military industry into the export market.
06:23In this context, the director of the pro-Colombia agency, Carlos Luna, highlighted the need for the Colombian business sector
06:32to visit this sister nation in order to evaluate its industrial capacity,
06:37identify new business opportunities, and strengthen bilateral trade alliances.
06:42And we're going now to Colombia as the historical pact movement has 10 pre-candidates for the presidential elections
06:52to be held in March of 2026.
06:55The historical pact members have until September of 2026 to register new candidates.
07:03The internal consultation will be held on October 26th,
07:08and the winner will be nominated as the official presidential candidate
07:13and will head the party's list for Congress.
07:16It should be noted that the coalition's strategy focuses on consolidating the unity of the left wing,
07:22combining the programmatic debate in the internal campaign with citizen mobilization in the streets
07:28and promoting a candidate who synthesizes President Petro's administration
07:32and also emerging social demands.
07:40And Colombian court sentenced the minor who murdered Senator and presidential candidate Miguel Uribe Turbay
07:46to seven years in prison.
07:48This was stated in an official statement by Colombian prosecutor's office
07:52where it was emphasized that due to the minor's age,
07:57he will have to spend seven years in a specialized care center.
08:01The killer, whose identity remains anonymous due to his minor age, 15 years old,
08:07was captured on August 7th, shortly after committing the assassination.
08:12At 1.56 a.m. local time on Monday, August 11th, Uribe Turbay died,
08:17more than two months after being admitted to the hospital with serious injuries
08:23as a result of the attack when the young man approached the politician from behind
08:29and shot him multiple times.
08:34Now we have a short break coming up, but first, remember you can join us on TikTok

08:44Welcome back to From the South. We continue with more information.
09:07Argentinian President Javier Milley was booed and rejected on Wednesday
09:12during his failed attempt to organize an electoral caravan
09:15in the south of the province of Buenos Aires.
09:19The reaction against the president comes in the context of a scandal
09:22that is shaking the government in relation to a bribe accusation
09:26involving the National Disability Agency.
09:30The ejection also takes place amid a strong political crisis of the government
09:36due to economy mismanagement, a growing recession,
09:39hitting white sectors of the Argentinian society,
09:42and repeated parliamentary defeats.
09:55Precisely in this context, a corruption scandal in the National Disability Agency in Argentina
10:01is affecting the image and credibility of the president, Javier Milley.
10:05The latest polls revealed that 86% of Argentines consider that there is corruption
10:10in the national government and believe that the president's sister, Karina Milley, is implicated.
10:16According to the survey, only 11% of the citizens defend the government
10:20and believe that the opposition seeks to weaken Javier Milley in the electoral framework.
10:27Millions of Argentines have showed their indignation with the recently released denunciations
10:32which point to Milley's sister and right-handed government
10:36as the leader of a corruption scheme profiting from funds from the National Disability Agency.
10:42We continue now with other news.
10:49Former Puerto Rico Governor Wanda Vázquez Garcet pleaded guilty
10:53to a campaign finance violation in a federal case at a U.S. district court.
10:59Vázquez, who took office in 2019,
11:03acknowledged on Wednesday before Federal Judge Silvia Carreño-Col
11:07her responsibility for accepting campaign contributions from abroad for her 2020 political campaign.
11:14She was arrested in August of 2022
11:16and initially accused of participating in a bribery scheme during her term.
11:22After three years of detention, Vázquez defense attorney Alex Pito,
11:27who is directly linked to U.S. President Donald Trump,
11:30took the case and secured a reduction in charges
11:33through a plea agreement with the U.S. Attorney's Office.
11:37The politician is scheduled to be sentenced on October 15th
11:40and has become Puerto Rico's first former governor to plead guilty to a crime.
11:51On Wednesday, the government of Mexico and Brazil
11:55strengthened bilateral cooperation as part of an action plan
11:59to mitigate the impact of tariffs that were imposed by the United States.
12:04During his official visit to Mexico,
12:06Brazilian Vice President Geraldo Alcmin celebrated the signing
12:10of two bilateral cooperation agreements
12:13which were expected to generate new opportunities in several economic sectors.
12:17Among the agreements signed were a declaration of intent on biofuels
12:21and a deal with the Mexican Ministry of Economy
12:25to improve the effectiveness of relations
12:28between Mexican and Brazilian companies.
12:31Business leaders and authorities of both nations
12:33agreed that the current international situation
12:36characterized by trade tensions with the U.S.
12:39provides an exceptional opportunity to boost bilateral ties.
12:43And precisely, we go now to the United States
12:51as a shooting took place at a school
12:53resulting in several deaths, including children.
12:56According to Minnesota Governor Tim Walz,
12:58the shooting occurred at a Catholic school in Minneapolis
13:02while students were returning to the building.
13:05Walz emphasized that the authorities are at the scene
13:08to begin their investigation and establish the facts.
13:11Three deaths have been reported so far,
13:14including that of the attacker who took his own life
13:18while 20 others were injured, including five children.
13:24With this community, we'll redouble ourselves
13:27to do the best we can to understand
13:31what we can do to prevent any parent
13:36from having to receive the calls they received today
13:40from any school dedicated to children
13:44having to respond to a situation that, as we said,
13:52is unthinkable, but that's all too common,
13:55not just in Minnesota, but across this country.
13:58It's Minnesota's day-to-day,
14:00and it's my strongest desire
14:04that no state, no community, no school
14:06ever experiences a day like this.
14:10The coward that shot these victims
14:12took his own life in the rear of the church.
14:16That coward has been identified
14:18as 23-year-old Robin Westman,
14:21no prior criminal history.
14:24As to the weapons used to perpetrate
14:27this horrific attack,
14:28there was a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol.
14:32All three had been lawfully purchased
14:35by the shooter.
14:40And let's look at the most recent statistics
14:43on gun violence in the United States
14:45with thousands of fatalities, injuries,
14:48and incidents involving minors
14:49just in the last year.
14:52To date, 9,800 homicides or murders
14:55related to firearms have been recorded
14:57compared to the total number of injuries
15:00reaching 17,906,
15:03including both injuries from assaults
15:06and unintentional incidents.
15:08There were also 286 mass shootings
15:10in which 157 children died
15:14and 337 were injured.
15:16On the other hand,
15:18958 suspects died
15:20and 584 were injured
15:23in confrontations with the police.
15:25This data compiled from multiple sources
15:27reflect both the seriousness of the problem
15:30and the ongoing efforts to address it
15:32in a country where the debate
15:34on gun control remains highly polarized.
15:40And now we have a second show break coming up,
15:43but before, we invite you to visit
15:44our Facebook page at Tales for English.
15:46There you'll be able to watch

15:56Final short break.
15:57Don't go away.
16:24Welcome back to From the South.
16:34We continue with more information.
16:36In this case, we go to Palestine.
16:37As medical sources in the Gaza Strip
16:39recorded 10 more deaths
16:41from acute malnutrition
16:43in the last 24 hours
16:45amid a tight Israeli aid blockade.
16:47The figure, which includes two children,
16:49brings the total number of hunger-related deaths
16:51in Gaza to 313,
16:54of which 117 are children,
16:58as the humanitarian crisis
16:59in the enclave worsens
17:00and the Taliban regime
17:02continues to block access
17:03to food and medical supplies.
17:06In this context,
17:07the United Nations Relief and Works Agency
17:09for Palestinian refugees
17:10in the New East
17:11warned that malnutrition
17:13in children under five
17:15have doubled since March
17:17and June of 2025.
17:19Moreover,
17:20the International Human Rights
17:22Organizations confirmed
17:23that the starvation rate
17:24in Gaza
17:25has reached alarming levels.
17:27Meanwhile,
17:28Israel's attacks across Gaza
17:29have killed 51 Palestinians
17:32since dawn on Wednesday,
17:34including 12 aid seekers.
17:36And precisely in this context,
17:44the Israeli army intensified
17:46its operations
17:47around the city of Gaza,
17:49where heavy Israeli bombing
17:50was reported
17:51during the night of Wednesday.
17:54The Israeli armed forces
17:55are seeking to take
17:57the capital of the Palestinian enclave
17:59and have stated
17:59that their troops
18:01are operating
18:02on the outskirts of the city,
18:04the largest in the territory.
18:05The Gaza Civil Defense Agency
18:07reported that
18:08Israeli attacks on Wednesday
18:10caused the deaths
18:11of at least 38 people,
18:13including 16 in Gaza City.
18:16Meanwhile,
18:17Israeli Prime Minister
18:18Benjamin Netanyahu's government
18:19faces growing pressure
18:20to end its military campaign
18:22in the Gaza Strip,
18:24where the United Nations
18:25has declared a famine.
18:27And precisely in Palestine,
18:36social organizations
18:37have launched
18:38a blood donation campaign
18:39in response
18:40to the shortage of blood
18:42in gas and hospitals.
18:44According to the
18:44Palestinian health authorities,
18:46the situation is worsening
18:47following the repeated
18:48Israeli bombings
18:49that leave dozens of people
18:51injured every day,
18:53most of whom need
18:54a large amount of blood.
18:55On the other hand,
18:56they claimed
18:57that the Israeli food blockade
18:59directly worsened
19:00the situation
19:00as it increased
19:02the cases of people
19:04facing severe famine.
19:12And British journalists
19:14demonstrated on Wednesday
19:16in London
19:16to reject the killing
19:17by the Israeli regime
19:19of five colleagues
19:20at a hospital in Gaza.
19:22The demonstration,
19:23led by members
19:24of the National Union
19:25of Journalists
19:26gathered outside
19:27Prime Minister Keir Starmer's
19:29office and residence

19:32where they delivered
19:33a letter demanding
19:34accountability
19:34and greater action

19:37government
19:37to protect media workers.
19:39The protesters
19:40also held a vigil
19:41in which they read aloud
19:43the names
19:44of more than 200 journalists
19:47murdered
19:47during the ethnic cleansing
19:49that is being carried out
19:50by the Netanyahu's army
19:52in the Palestinian enclave
19:54since October of 2023.
19:56The union leaders
19:58had called
19:58Sister Union
20:00around the world
20:01earlier this week
20:02to join on Tuesday
