00:01Hey everyone, it's been about a year since we've done one of these updates
00:04and what can I say, we've been pretty busy.
00:07But over the course of the year, we've added like hundreds of thousands of you guys into the playtest
00:12as Skate Insiders. It's been incredibly exciting to see you all in there.
00:16Congratulations to all of you that got the golden ticket, the golden email.
00:19I know how great it is. It's been fun playing with you. I'm so stoked.
00:23When we started working on it, I didn't have any white hairs.
00:26Really? Tell me about it, me too.
00:29We are so grateful to all of you for the feedback you've sent through, the stuff that you love,
00:34the stuff that you hate, and hell, we've gotten enough feedback of like,
00:37will you please just release this damn game? We love the passion behind it.
00:41We want to keep hearing from you and let's get into it.
00:43So after years of saying we're working on it, we are, drumroll please, still working on it,
00:51but we're about to enter Early Access and we're very excited about where the game's at right now
00:56and we've got some big news to announce. We're going to be in Early Access on September 16th.
01:04And now that we have your undivided attention, we're going to dive more into what's happening in Early Access,
01:10give you a little sneak peek, so let's roll the footage.
01:14I crushed it.
01:15F***ing pro! What are you doing talking to you?
01:21First off, let's talk about what Early Access means. The first thing is, this isn't the final version of Skate,
01:26this is just the beginning. We're really excited about how the game feels right now.
01:30And we're also really, really excited about where it's going in Early Access.
01:34We're going to keep adding features and new ways to play as well as continue to improve the game and the overall experience.
01:40And we're especially excited about where it's going because we're going there with you.
01:43We finally get to skate with you guys en masse, see what you guys are doing, see how you guys are ripping up the city. Can't wait.
01:49These guys are right.
01:51Always.
01:52Always.
01:53I support everything that they say, but realistically, we want you to embrace the chaos and lean into the fun here.
01:59At lunch, we're going to have some amazing skateboarding. We're going to have a huge world for you to explore.
02:03We've got big events, we've got big brands, cosmetics, and customization coming your way.
02:08That sounds like a deal, man.
02:09What a deal! This is a value! The value proposition of this game is out of this world.
02:14How much does it cost?
02:15Guess what?
02:16Hey, hey.
02:17It's offer free.
02:18Oh, really?
02:19Are you telling me this game's free to play?
02:21It's your favorite four-letter F word.
02:24All right.
02:26Now, if you've been playing skate as long as I have, and some of us here, or you're old as F like I am,
02:32you may realize that, yeah, this is a different game. It's not the skate of our predecessors.
02:37But it's different. How so, Mike? Would you care to elaborate?
02:40I would care to elaborate.
02:42It's online, it's cross-play, it's cross-progression from PC to Gen 4 and Gen 5 Xbox and PlayStation consoles.
02:50It's also free to play, so you can drop in with no strings attached.
02:54But you know what's not different? It's fun.
02:56And most importantly, we're making the game more accessible, which will hopefully inspire more people to pick up a board and skate.
03:01We're hoping to make this a community that you love to drop in and hang out with your friends and like going to your local skate park.
03:07And we've doubled down on some of the things that you love from the previous games, in addition to the amazing gameplay.
03:13So we're leaning into community, we're leaning into the social elements, and of course a big open-world sandbox for you to play in.
03:19We're loving the stories that we're seeing of what you're up to in the play tests.
03:23Those special moments where you're hitting a rail by yourself and folks start coming in, dropping some objects, and it turns into a DIY session.
03:31But we're also listening to the things that you'd like to have to do that more and more.
03:35And we're looking to see how we can apply that in the best way, and you'll see some updates in the rest of the video.
03:41Okay, cool. So now we can talk about gameplay, which is something I'm very passionate about.
03:46Flick It has always been the heart and soul of Skate, and we knew nailing that feel was our number one priority.
03:52And it's so much harder than just putting, you know, a character on a board.
03:56And so instead of trying to recreate Flick It, we meticulously resurrected it in Frostbite and built around it.
04:02And so there's amazing new systems like, you know, slappies and wallies.
04:07We've improved upon power slides. There's so many new things for you to play.
04:11And honestly, like, I can't wait. We can't wait for all of you to finally be able to touch it.
04:17Get your hands on it and thumbs. It's the best it's ever been.
04:20So really stoked for you guys to get in and finally play.
04:23And we have a ton of tricks to start for you to master and string together in nearly infinite combinations.
04:29And you better believe we'll be adding more through early access and beyond.
04:32We also have your one-stop shop, which is our Skatepedia.
04:35Whether you're trying out something new, you're mastering your existing skills.
04:39Skatepedia is definitely the place to start.
04:41So where are we going to do all these tricks and have all this fun?
04:44In a brand new city called San Vanskram.
04:47You've heard us talk about it. That's it. It's a sweet sister city of San Vanskram.
04:51The thing that's different this time, we've got a big open world.
04:54We have four neighborhoods. Each one's unique. Each one has its own personality, its own style.
04:58And there's a crew embedded in each one. It's going to be pretty cool.
05:01A lot of the stuff that you would expect is stuff from before, but we've gone vertical.
05:05Our new gameplay, our ability to climb, the ability to get vertical with it.
05:08We know that you used to glitch to the roofs and we forgot to put collision on all the places because we didn't know you'd be there.
05:13There's collision. Try to find no collision places. There's collision everywhere.
05:16And the great thing about it, you've got a whole new spot. It's constantly evolving.
05:19If you go into this one neighborhood called Hedgemont, you climb up, there's this place called Emcor Tower.
05:23You get to the top, holy cow, you can see everything.
05:25And while you're up there, people skating, people doing stuff.
05:28I saw somebody flying around, dude, spreading their eagle. They were spreading that eagle.
05:32Check a spreading eagle and you're good.
05:34Hedgemont's just one of the neighborhoods we have. We've got a bunch more. Andrea?
05:37Yeah. The city is filled with challenges for you to complete.
05:40And as you complete the challenges and impress the local crews, you'll progress in the different neighborhoods and unlock new ones.
05:46There's different types of challenges. There's on-the-spot, line challenges, stunts.
05:51And my favorite to do with other people is sessions.
05:54You can do challenges and a new feature that we have, which is tasks, to let you earn riptips and progress through the game.
06:01And challenges are great if you want structure and you're looking for that. Like, I get it.
06:04But honestly, what I find is, like, no two sessions are the same because it's constantly evolving. It changes.
06:09A lot of people that we're seeing, they're just like, hey, let's get in. Let's have a set.
06:13Make your own, right?
06:14Make your own. It's like we have this new thing. It's an amazing feature.
06:17I show up to a spot and say, hey, do you want to throw it down? Do you want to skate here?
06:20It's like calling a boundary on it. Let's do it.
06:22And we skate it. You can do that anywhere. You can do it on top of the building. It's amazing.
06:26It's so much fun. Spontaneous, instant, emergent gameplay.
06:30Add to that quick drop. Quick drop's like, it's kind of like what we had in the past where you could rig a spot, make it your own, do something with it.
06:36Somebody else comes on, adds something to it. It becomes an additive experience.
06:40Come back tomorrow, that's not there. Street Zamboni swept that away, and you're like, hey, new thing.
06:45It's a whole new experience.
06:47Every session is different.
06:48Every session is different, but you can customize more than just your session.
06:51That's right, cuz there's a lot of customization you can do, and importantly, on our characters.
06:55So we are still doing a lot of sculpting and shaping the way that our characters look and feel.
07:00Hello, Pottery fans.
07:01The aim here is for you to have as many options available to you as you can.
07:05So there's a lot more coming into your body shape, your apparel, your hair, your facial detail.
07:10The key thing here is that we are bringing a lot of detail and personality to these characters with time.
07:15And we're gonna keep expanding upon that.
07:17If you wanna blend in with, like, one of the locals, like this guy over here, you can do some of that.
07:21But if you're one of those sick puppies out there who wants to skate sand van looking like the Grim Reaper, we got you covered there as well.
07:27If you like hot dogs.
07:28And if you like hot dogs, just stay tuned for the hot dog wardrobe that we have.
07:31We have Franksfurters.
07:33What it boils down to is we are always going to be looking for new ways to let you personalize your character to feel, to look and feel just like you.
07:41And we've got a lot of plans that you're probably looking forward to.
07:44Things like tattoos, hair color, makeup, and the list goes on.
07:48Our customization options don't stop there.
07:50It's really about making the experience yours.
07:52So that comes down to lots of granular control about your onboard, your offboard, things that you can do with the camera.
07:58We want the game to look and feel the way that you want it to.
08:01What are we doing?
08:02Are we rolling around in silence or what?
08:04I mean, what's skating without music?
08:05Now, you know we're not gonna roll around in silence.
08:07You know we're gonna have a soundtrack.
08:09And it's gonna be filled with songs that are inspired from skateboarding.
08:12Our sort of our filter to think about how we add to the soundtrack is, hey, has somebody skated to it?
08:18Who would skate to that?
08:19That's a big thing.
08:20But we also know that for the past 15, 20 years you've been listening to the same songs if you haven't shut it off.
08:26The great thing about our new game is that it's always updating and refreshing.
08:31We'll have new batches of music coming in every season.
08:34Another feature that's become a little gameplay thing for me is, like, I go around the world collecting the songs.
08:40We have a new feature.
08:41We call it Grabster.
08:42And it's really cool.
08:43It's like, if you hear ambient music in the world, it's adding, you know, like, oh, I was skating in front of a surf shop.
08:47I'm like, what the hell is that music?
08:48I don't know the song.
08:49It's not a licensed track.
08:50It's one of our ambient songs.
08:52You can grab it.
08:53You can listen to it.
08:54You can add it to your playlist.
08:55It's all part of the customization and freshness that it is skating now.
08:58I love it.
08:59Let's talk a little bit more about what we can expect in year one.
09:01Our game is going to receive regular updates, and these updates are going to be structured as seasons.
09:06Each season has a unique theme and contains new songs, challenges, and cosmetics.
09:13For season one, we're going to celebrate Sandband's rich skate heritage with a celebration of the 90s.
09:18We're going to take you back to a time when the street was king, and you couldn't feel your board because your shoes were too puffy.
09:25It's true.
09:26That's true!
09:27It's true.
09:28So in season one, we're also introducing our skate pass.
09:31For those of you who are exceptionally quick, yes, it's a battle pass.
09:34Yes, we just replaced the name battle with skate.
09:37We're not overcomplicating things here.
09:38So let me tell you what skate pass is all about.
09:40You earn your progress through just playing the game, completing tasks.
09:44Each page that you unlock offers unique rewards, and you get to choose what order to unlock them.
09:50And because we love giving you choice, we offer a free skate pass every season, and also an option to pay for our premium skate pass.
09:57Each premium skate pass will offer additional and unique rewards.
10:00Really, it's up to you to choose how you want to skate it.
10:03Really quickly, season two highlights.
10:05I'm going to run through a few.
10:06We've got new stuff to skate, possibly a trick or two, and maybe impossibles.
10:12We're also, what is the second one?
10:14I completely forgot.
10:15Party voice chat.
10:16Oh, yeah.
10:17Oh, my God.
10:18Party voice chat is coming.
10:19You better say it.
10:20I'm sorry.
10:21I'm sorry.
10:22Of course, party voice chat.
10:23So, like, you can share your hopes and dreams.
10:24You can also heckle everybody in your party.
10:26And thirdly and lastly, we are going to be refreshing our replay editor.
10:31All those clips you've been stacking, you'll be able to finally keyframe cameras for.
10:34So, really looking forward to all the amazing stuff that you guys are going to be posting.
10:38And for season three?
10:39In season three, we're going to be looking at adding leaderboards.
10:42So, for those of you who like to skate competitively, there'll be a way for you to do that.
10:46We're also going to be adding some new gameplay tricks.
10:50We're also adding another character slot to the creative character system.
10:53So, the little tattoos will be there.
10:54So, for those of you that have been asking to put tattoos on your character, you'll be able to do that in season three.
10:58Jeff Seamster has been asking to put tattoos on his character for a while.
11:01We're really looking forward to early access because all your feedback helps drive these seasonal plans.
11:06And helps us make decisions about what to add next and when.
11:09So, thank you, thank you, thank you.
11:10We are so excited to finally be able to open the doors for you all.
11:13On September 16th, everybody is welcome in.
11:16To the Skate Insiders, thank you so much for your patience.
11:19Thank you so much for all the feedback.
11:21I mean, your passion has been insane and amazing.
11:24And we can't thank you enough.
11:26We're going to give you early access as of today.
11:29So, check your inboxes.
11:31You get to jump in, play a little bit earlier than everybody else.
11:34So, thank you for being patient and can't wait to skate with you all.
11:38So, again, thank you and peace.
11:41Thanks.
