Australia’s biggest indigenous language conference is currently underway in Darwin, bringing together linguists and language custodians from across the country. One group is working to keep the Dharawal language alive, by bringing it into childcare centres and primary schools in Sydney.

00:00At the Guadjaga Foundation, the language tutors learn what they need to learn to be able to go
00:08out into the school systems and teach. They then go into primary schools and early childhood centres.
00:14The kids love learning the language, the tutors make it fun. I think it's important
00:28for the younger generation to really understand who they are, where they come from, and it's
00:34a beautiful thing to see the growth of some of these kids. The language is just scratching
00:40the surface of their identity and their cultural journey. If we can create strong individuals,
00:46strong families, then the community will be strong.
