Tensions rise in Washington, DC, as President Donald Trump deploys over 2,200 National Guard troops from several Republican-led states to address rising crime. Protests erupted after federal agents searched a residence, coinciding with the Guard beginning to carry weapons. Trump suggested deploying troops to Baltimore, sparking a sharp response from Maryland Governor Wes Moore, who highlighted a 20% drop in homicides. The president also signaled plans to send troops to Chicago, which reported 573 homicides in 2024, down 8% from the previous year. Despite falling crime rates, Guard and federal forces remain on Washington, DC's streets, drawing sporadic protests. Watch to know more.

00:00We began in the United States where tensions are brewing in Washington after President Donald Trump
00:05deployed the National Guard to tackle rising crime in the city. In the latest protests against the
00:11National Guard's presence intensified with dozens gathering on Sunday night as federal agents were
00:16seen searching residents. Protests banged spoons and pots and chanted get out of our neighborhood
00:22and quit your job, booing and jeering officials as they walked down streets carrying boxes.
00:30More than 2,200 troops have been deployed to the nation's capital with many of these troops coming
00:56from Republican-led states including West Virginia, South Carolina, Ohio, Mississippi, Louisiana
01:02and Tennessee. A statement by the Joint Task Force of D.C. confirmed that troops are only
01:07authorized to use force as a last result and solely against an imminent threat of death
01:13or serious bodily harm. This came after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's recent authorization
01:19for troops to be armed. The exact number of armed troops however are unknown but reports
01:25suggest they may carry pistols and rifles. Meanwhile on Sunday President Trump took to
01:31his social media platform Truth Social and suggested the possibility of deploying more troops. The
01:37Democratic run Baltimore in Maryland calling the city crime ridden even though we're seeing
01:43crime at historic lows in the neighboring city. Governor Westmore of Maryland is asked in a rather nasty
01:50and provocative tone that I walk the streets of Maryland with him. I assume he is talking about
01:56out of control, crime ridden Baltimore? As president, I would much prefer that he clean up this crime
02:03disaster before I go there for a walk. Westmore's record on crime is a very bad one unless he fudges his
02:10figures on crime like many of the other blue states are doing. But if Westmore needs help,
02:15like Gavin Newsom did in LA, I will send in the troops, which is being done in nearby D.C.
02:21Now Trump has repeatedly characterized some of the nation's largest Democratic run cities,
02:26often with black mayors and majority minority populations, as dangerous and filthy even though
02:32we continue to see many Republican cities actually leading the charge on crime. Maryland's governor
02:38Westmore, however, strongly criticized Donald Trump's suggestion of deploying troops in the state.
02:43In an interview on Sunday, Moore said that he has been keeping Maryland safe without the National
02:48Guard, noting that the homicide rate has dropped by more than 20 percent since he took office.
02:54On his social media platform, X, he said deploying the National Guard for municipal policing purposes
02:59is not sustainable, scalable, constitutional, or even respectful. The governor also mocked the
03:06president claiming he was trying to distract from the Epstein files.
03:10President Bonespurs will do anything to get out of walking, even if that means spouting off more
03:15lies about the progress we're making on public safety in Maryland. Hey, Donald, we can get you
03:20a golf cart if that makes things easier. Just let my team know.
03:26Trump has also announced his intention to deploy National Guard to other cities, including Chicago,
03:32as well as New York. Ready? We'll go ahead and we'll straighten out Chicago, just like we did D.C.
03:39Chicago is very dangerous. Great place. I built great stuff there. I have the most beautiful
03:44building in Chicago, I think. But I hate to see what's happened to Chicago. Chicago is our greatest
03:49city, actually. Illinois' governor, J.B. Pritzker, and Chicago's mayor, Brandon Johnson, are pushing
03:56back, strongly rejecting the proposal of sending the deployed troops into the city and state. Reports
04:03indicate Chicago recorded 573 homicides in 2024, 8 percent lower than the year before. And in
04:11Washington, D.C., data shows a significant drop in violent crimes between 2023 and 2024,
04:17though that was coming off a post-pandemic surge. Yet thousands of National Guard and federal law
04:22enforcement officers remain on the city's streets, prompting sporadic protests from residents.
04:28So with troops patrolling the Capitol and the president continuing to threaten action in other
04:32democratic cities, the debate over public safety crime and federal intervention shows no signs of
04:38debating. First post now available in nine languages on YouTube. English, French, German, Hindi,
