00:00Senators expressed mixed reactions following the removal of PNP Chief General Nicolás Torre III.
00:06Former PNP Chief Senator Panfilo Lacson said Torre overstepped his authority
00:11when he relieved Police Lieutenant General Napates without clearance from the President, NAPLCOM, or the DILG.
00:18Still, Lacson stressed that relieving Torre was within the President's sole prerogative,
00:22provided the transition is smooth to avoid disrupting police operations.
00:27Senate President Francis Escudero admitted he was surprised,
00:31but underscored that any PNP chief serves at the President's pleasure, hoping police morale remains intact.
00:38In the meantime, Senator Ronald Batoy de la Rosa revealed that Torre sought his advice before his relief,
00:44admitting he felt both anger and pity, but emphasized the PNP's resilience and leadership turnovers.
00:50Senator Jingo Estrada, for his part, said he trusts President Marcus Jr.
00:53made the decision with the best interests of the Filipino people in mind.
