00:00Okay, so Soapyfest is a celebration of the life of a guy called Soapy Souter, who is
00:07a big fan of the Barlowlands and a big fan of music. And a lot of the bands that you
00:11used to go and see, like Colonel Worcester, the Dijon Five, the Mickey Nines, the Filthy
00:17Tongues, the Gyro Babies, have all got together to put on a special night for charity, cancer
00:26charities. This Sunday, the 31st of August at the Barlowlands, it's an early start, six
00:30o'clock, finish at half ten so you can go up the road and go to work the next day. And
00:35at the end of it, I'm going to come on and do a song with the Colonel Worcester, Dijon Five
00:40and a few of the other bands as a sort of encore. It's a big surprise what the song is.
00:44It's just going to be a big carnival festival atmosphere. All of the bands are kind of festival
00:50veterans, so it's all about having a big party and a big celebration. So every band's
00:55going to do a James cover because that was John's favourite band. So we've all got one
01:00specially selected, but we're not allowed to say. John McMustard of the Dijon Five asked me
01:06and I just went, yeah, why not? Because they were all obviously very upset when Soapie passed away
01:12and just thought it would be a great idea to put together a great bill. John was a friend,
01:18met him through the music scene. I think we first met at Avant-Garde and just got to know each other and
01:25it's always like a flamboyant dresser and right away a guy that was up talking to you and full of beans
01:32and full of confidence. And he loved us, the fact that there's a gig in his honour and he was just a
01:40great guy and a true supporter. The people like that are so important.
