Transcript
00:00During this period of hot, dry weather, we're reaching out to our fellow farmers with an important reminder to stay vigilant and help protect our land and livelihoods.
00:08We'd like to remind you to take a moment to review the NFU's hot weather guidance.
00:12It's a busy time of year and safety can sometimes take a back seat, but it's important to be vigilant.
00:17Fires can start incredibly quickly in these conditions, especially around dry crops, machinery and fuel stores.
00:23With a few simple steps, you can reduce the risk and protect your farm, your workers and your community.
00:28Here are a few key questions to ask yourself.
00:31Would everyone on your farm know what to do in the event of a fire?
00:34Have you talked through the emergency plan?
00:36Is your farm entrance clearly signposted and are access routes wide and clear enough for emergency vehicles?
00:41Do you know your what three words location? It can help us find you quickly in an emergency.
00:46Is there a water supply nearby and can we access it easily if needed?
00:51Are escape routes clear and free from flammable materials like hay, straw or other fuel containers?
00:56And finally, where is your fire extinguisher? Is it in date and do you know how to use it?
01:00These might seem like small things, but they can make a huge difference in emergency.
01:04Being prepared could save lives, livestock and livelihood.
01:07Please take a few minutes to check your setup, talk to your team and make sure you're ready.
01:12The message we're sharing today about preventing wildfires is especially close to our hearts.
01:17To find out more, you can access farming fire prevention guidance on the NFU website.
