00:00Hello and thank you. Thank you for taking this time to listen to these really
00:04important messages from me. As you know the temperature is getting warmer and
00:07people might be tempted to enter the water. We've seen figures over 1,600
00:11people unfortunately in the UK lose their lives either in or around the
00:15water. As you know the impact of losing a loved one can be devastating on the
00:20individual, family but also the community. The water temperature may be different
00:25to what you're used to. This can lead to cold water shock where you can gas for
00:29air and you can find yourself in difficulty. Please be safe. The following
00:35may seem simple but also may save your life. Please consider when you're near
00:39the water, enjoying the water, that you're either wearing a life jacket, a personal
00:44flotation device, you don't go swimming alone, an approved club is always best and
00:51you're just careful of what you're doing in your surroundings. Please please don't
00:55be under the influence of drugs or alcohol when entering the water and please think
01:00before you enter the water because you don't know what's underneath it. Just be
01:05careful, enjoy it but please please take care. If you do find yourself in the water
01:10unexpectedly though, the key message is float to live. Lie on your back, spread out
01:16your arms like a starfish. Float to live. When you compose yourself, try and get some air
01:23into your lungs and breathe. Shout for help and if safe to do so and you can, try and
01:30swim to the shoreline or the riverbank. These simple things will keep you safe. Thank you.
