Will Forster MP learned some home truths on a tour of the Lansbury Business Estate in Knaphill. Gripes about the impact of Brexit, business rates and energy costs were commonplace as several firms gave their opinions to the Liberal Democrat.
00:00Basically we're a smart homes automation company so we manufacture motion sensors and keypads that
00:08are used for predominantly like lighting control basically so the thing with Europe is Brexit we
00:15still can't ship from here into Europe in a clean way so what we have to do is we have to open the
00:21warehouse in the Netherlands we have to register for that in the Netherlands and now we have to
00:25split our stock between here America and the Netherlands so we can service that market and
00:31it's an absolute it's an absolute nightmare. There's one other topic as well which I'd say is barrier to growth which annoys me is business rates so you want to expand manufacturing in Woking but then
00:45suddenly we go from paying what we pay for this to suddenly way more for that manufacturing space so
00:52actually we go well do we manufacture locally well no because that's too expensive and we go and look for export you know look for units to do that outside of Woking in foreign countries.
01:01We provide aerial photography as part of our services so our main business is commercial property photography
01:07occasionally we were into Europe before Brexit kicked off so we can't wait to go to Europe easily because the regulations show.
01:15This street is suffering as everyone knows. So actually one of the earlier business visits I didn't really mention costs because they're less of a traditional manufacturer than the nearest sector.
01:24Yes this is all this is all electric.
01:28In the last five years it's built to shut up.
01:32There we are the big rest of it to make of the market.
