The police force must adapt and become a digitally enabled, intelligence-led organisation that is flexible and proactive, as cybercrime losses have surpassed RM1.22bil, says Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail.

The Inspector-General of Police said that from January to October last year, Malaysia recorded losses exceeding RM1.22bil due to a surge in cybercrime.

01:00such as financial scam, online reception, identity manipulation and illegal data breaches.
01:10Cybersecurity Malaysia reported over 5,900 incidents in 2023, including 3,705 cases of fraud.
01:24There was a staggering 1,100% rise in data breach report compared to the previous year.
01:34These numbers highlight the real-world impact, economic disruption and loss of trust in digital ecosystem.
01:47As the Inspector General of Malaysia, I call on PRM to adapt and address these challenges ahead on.
01:56Our force must evolve into a digitally-enabled, intelligent-led organization that is flexible and proactive.
02:08Ladies and gentlemen, we are dedicated to modernizing our approach by enhancing digital forensic capabilities,
02:18strengthening intelligent coordination, collective inter-agency and international cooperation,
02:27and continuously developing our personnel skills.
02:32Nevertheless, combating cybercrime is not just the duty of police agencies.
02:39It requires cooperation across the entire government and society.
02:44I am glad to inform you that today's program will involve 550 participants, including representatives from government agencies,
02:57enforcement bodies, academia, the tech sectors and civil society.
03:05The agenda is thoughtfully designed and extensive featuring a key highlight of ministerial dialogue
03:12focused on enhancing national digital defense framework,
03:17expert panel on law, technology and enforcement, along with roundtable discussion on regional cooperation and managing cross-border threat.
03:29It also features specialized workshops, focused on tools, response mechanism and training needs,
03:38as well as the presentation of articles in the Cybersecurity Knowledge Competition.
03:46We celebrate academic excellence and innovation.
03:50This diverse program reflects our collective ambition to actively shape the future of public safety in the digital era.
