00:00We are gearing up for September, and let's face out, the countdown is on September 1st, coming just seven days away.
00:06It's also Labor Day, by the way, and the beginning of fall, the autumn equinox, is actually occurring 28 days away, on September 22nd.
00:14So if you're ready for all the pumpkin spice things, well, just know it comes at a price, and one of those prices is the amount of daylight we lose through the month of September.
00:24It's substantial, by the way. In places like Key West, Florida, yeah, we're only losing 41 minutes throughout the month from the 1st to the 30th,
00:32but as you work your way northward, you can find those numbers going up and up.
00:35Atlanta and Los Angeles, right around an hour of daylight is lost for the month, and if you're in cities like, say, Minneapolis,
00:42well, we're losing about 90 minutes, 100 minutes, as you work your way towards international falls.
00:47So there's a lot of daylight that is lost across the nation.
00:50On top of it, the longer nights means the weather gets a little bit cooler, and yes, we can see that first frost.
00:56That first frost coming late September with historical averages here in North Dakota, northern Minnesota, and northwestern South Dakota,
01:03plus Michigan all around the eastern Great Lakes right into Maine as well.
01:08So we know that things will be sparkling like diamonds as that first frost comes,
01:13or the rest of us will just be chiseling the windshields either way.
01:16And let's talk snowfall while we're at it, because, well, historical averages don't suggest we get a lot of snow through the month of September.
01:23By mid-October, we're cruising in it, especially through the northern Rockies, the Cascades, and into the Sierra.
01:29But this AccuWeather forecast showing you the Cascades could get in on the action a little bit early as we go to late September and early October.
01:37So something to look forward to if you're a snow lover.
01:39And by the way, winter lovers, you can rejoice because, yes, the winter countdown is on at 118 days.
