00:00You're often told, as a parent, that they grow up so fast.
00:25It's Christmas!
00:26Come on, Oscar!
00:30But sometimes, you wish they would grow up faster and move out.
00:43Trouble is, ours don't.
00:47You're the only one that can decide if you're actually going or you're not going.
00:51Which is it to be?
00:54I'm not sure yet.
00:56You're the only one that can decide if you need to accept it.
01:03Just a sec.
01:07I'm not sure you're going to do it.
01:09The Radford house has 11 rooms in which their enormous family is crammed.
01:30So we've lived in this house now for about 20 years.
01:36There have been lots and lots of bedroom changes.
01:40Who sleeps where is constantly changing.
01:44This is the boys room where there's Daniel, Josh and James in there.
01:49And then in that room we've got Oscar, Casper, Archie.
01:54This room we've got Max.
01:57So this is Hallie, Phoebe, Bonnie and Heidi's bedroom.
02:01There's been lots of different kids that have lived in this room.
02:06But one room has changed ownership more than any other.
02:09The back bedroom has got a bit of something about it.
02:13People that move into that room soon move back out of it.
02:15Yeah, they do.
02:16I think it's haunted.
02:19Sophie's been in this bedroom.
02:25Chloe's been in this room.
02:27Katie's been in this room.
02:30At the moment the room lies empty whilst the next occupant is decided.
02:34There's a lot of interest but there's one thing to consider.
02:37Everyone that moves into the back bedroom seems to get pregnant.
02:43Maybe one of the lads should get it this time then.
02:47Katie's last occupant, Katie, left after this happened.
02:51Yay!
02:52Yay!
02:53Yay!
02:54Yay!
02:55Oh!
02:56Oh!
02:57Katie had a baby!
02:58Oh!
02:59Oh, you're so pretty!
03:00Oh!
03:01Oh!
03:02Oh!
03:03Oh!
03:04Oh!
03:08Two miles away from the safety net of Sue, Katie and Connor are settling into their
03:12flat with new baby Ronnie.
03:15A baby takes up a lot of room, so there just wouldn't have been room in my mum and dad's
03:19house for us all.
03:21I would like to stay at home, because I like being around my parents, but we've got to think
03:26of a baby.
03:28Without all the Radfords, the flat may seem empty, but Ronnie's ensuring that it's not
03:35quiet.
03:36So it's the middle of the night and Ronnie has decided to wake up again.
03:51Motherhood's not proving as easy as Katie and half the population thought.
03:56Last night he woke up every two hours.
03:59Week one was hard.
04:01He had his morning and night muddled up.
04:04I don't think anything prepares you for having your own.
04:08Week two was on another level.
04:10He's been sick on me.
04:12He went through four outfits in the space of ten minutes.
04:19From like six o'clock to eleven o'clock at night he was just screaming, screaming, screaming,
04:24screaming, screaming.
04:25I didn't expect this to be me yet.
04:31Oh, grumpy Ben.
04:33Isn't he sick on me?
04:35Again?
04:36Don't you hand in your mouth?
04:41At the beginning of week three, Katie's facing a new challenge.
04:49Connor went back to work today and it is harder because you've got to do everything yourself.
04:56With Connor at work, the house feels even more empty.
05:00It is a lot harder living on your own.
05:03At home you've got your siblings and your parents to help, whereas when you're at your
05:09own place you've only got to really do it on your own.
05:11I wasn't prepared for any of that, the loneliness.
05:17Going from a busy eleven-bedroomed house to a pokey flat and becoming a mum for the first
05:22time, Katie's struggling with all the change.
05:26Are you missing your mum?
05:27Um, yeah, I do miss my mum and my dad.
05:31I don't know how I'm going to take to it just because it's so quiet.
05:36So you're kind of on your own.
05:45Whilst Katie sits in solitude...
05:47Come on, barbecue everyone!
05:51..back at Radford Towers...
05:52Get outside!
05:53..the house is full to bursting.
05:56Some of the best family days we have are outside in the garden, aren't they?
05:59Yeah.
06:00You've got three-four burgers, 30 sausages, 18 kebab things like on skewers.
06:07When the barbie's out, the garden's guaranteed to be full.
06:11It's also so lovely to see what we've created, to see all of the grandkids getting along with
06:18our kids.
06:19We're very lucky.
06:20Do you use the barbie to do the salad and get stuff ready and do the tidying up and everyone
06:27else just sits down, chills and watch make-up and then gets stuck in?
06:31This is a group of kids that appreciate home comforts.
06:34Are you like just some baby?
06:36Yeah.
06:37We clock off when there's a barbecue going.
06:39Hey, I've just done a full day to wrap, aren't you?
06:42Yeah, nice.
06:43This nest seems a little too comfortable.
06:46Including Katie, just five have left home.
06:50The kids are still at home, all the old ones, because it's just easy.
06:55The cooking's done, the cleaning's done, the washing's done, 24-hour care.
07:00Mum doesn't agree.
07:02I do feel like they are still here because they just genuinely do love having all of their
07:07siblings around, having a big family.
07:10This is a family that isn't easy to leave.
07:15Did you miss home when you were in Plymouth?
07:17I did miss home when I was in Plymouth, yeah.
07:19I guess there's a lot of people to miss, isn't there?
07:22It took me, I would say, a good year to start getting used to it a little bit.
07:25You've pretty much come home every day to see Mum?
07:27Yeah, I was really home to see it.
07:29I was texting Dad every day, like, right, kick me up, I want to come home.
07:32And then Joe would text me, like, oh, what are you doing?
07:34I'd be like, oh, I've just come home for a bit.
07:36That's not your home anymore.
07:42I do love having them all here.
07:44An empty nest is definitely not something that I'm looking forward to.
07:48I'll be opening the door to let them out, and you'll be there trying to shut the door
07:51to keep them back.
07:52Oh!
07:53Top of Noel's list is this fella.
07:55Daniel, for you on Bondi Beach, throwing one on the barbie.
07:59He'll be over there.
08:0126-year-old Daniel has been trying to emigrate to Australia
08:04for as long as anyone can remember.
08:06He's still thinking again.
08:09I'd definitely like to move out at some point.
08:12Yeah, maybe when I'm 40.
08:15In what happened, so far, he's decided to go, change his mind,
08:19and he bought a ticket and then changed his mind again.
08:22There is a thing, it's called soiling the nest,
08:25where a child comes across a big change in their life, like moving out,
08:30and they just can't seem to go through with.
08:32They're putting obstacles in their way, go off the rails a bit,
08:35sabotaging his own future, and it's just all down to anxiety of moving on.
08:40I do wonder if maybe that's the way Daniel is at the minute.
08:43The big question remains, can Daniel be helped to finally make the move?
08:52We've got to keep this dream alive.
08:56I desperately know, I really want him to go.
08:58You know, it's something he really wants to do,
09:00but he's a little bit lapsadaisy on getting it sorted.
09:04Get on with it.
09:05So Noel has come up with a plan.
09:07Noel thinks it's kind of now or never,
09:10it's definitely going to be like last chance saloon.
09:13Noel's making one last-ditch offer to Daniel.
09:17It's a serious offer, Dan.
09:20I wouldn't be splashing down unless there's good reason for it.
09:23I've just said to him, look, Dan, I said,
09:25if you really want to do this, the deal is,
09:28if you go to Australia to work for about a year,
09:33I'll pay for you to go business class there.
09:36And, you know, his little eyes lit up and his ears pricked up and things,
09:40I thought, yeah, all right then.
09:42He said, well, yeah, honestly, I said, yeah, I'll definitely do that, Dan.
09:45But I did say to him, I'm not paying for you to come home.
09:48He's not joking either.
09:50This is my ticket to Australia.
09:54I land in Sydney Airport at 7pm their time.
09:59And when's the return?
10:01There's no return flight. That is a one-way flight.
10:06It's Dad's idea.
10:08He wants me to gain some life experience and grow as a person.
10:12Just have a new life out there, really.
10:15So I'd just be hoping that I do enjoy myself
10:18and I don't miss home too much.
10:20Yeah?
10:21It's quite scary to think about.
10:24Daniel is beginning his final month working at the power station.
10:45He's definitely needed a good clean, so I'll be ready to go.
10:49He's agreed to move to Australia.
10:51Soon his contract will end and he'll be free to begin a new career and life in Australia.
10:57Besides the weather, obviously, in Australia, the main thing that appeals to me,
11:01the work, to me, it seems a lot more stable.
11:05Dan is a safety officer.
11:08His skills will be in big demand in the booming Australian mining industry.
11:14My job over the last four or five years has been agency work
11:18and it can be like three months on, three months off type thing.
11:22I'm quite an ambitious person and there's good job opportunities over there for me.
11:27So work is definitely a big factor.
11:36Noel is hoping that Daniel will become the first Radford to cross continents.
11:41We live in this tiny little pinprick there on that little island.
11:45You know, with this massive world to go and see.
11:48I always say, you know, we're only here once, so travel as much as we can.
11:55As a young man, Noel himself dreamed of exploring the world.
11:59When I was younger, I had three dreams.
12:02I'd either move to Canada or New Zealand or Australia.
12:07Just something I really fancied doing.
12:09Just emigrating to the other side of the world, I guess.
12:13Just being on your own, it's great.
12:19These were my top two.
12:21I think out of all the places I'd gone would be Australia.
12:25I wanted to drive them massive lorries.
12:27You know, where they're like a train of lorries, only three carriages long.
12:31We have trails that go across the country.
12:33And do that where they drive from one end to the other.
12:36Just all of the outback here, that's what I wanted to do almost.
12:39Travelling on my own.
12:41The thought of just being out there, which was so appealing.
12:44They were my dreams.
12:48But it never happened.
12:52Starting a family young wasn't the future that Noel was expecting.
12:59So I think having Chris, you know, it's certainly stopped me from emigrating.
13:04I mean, I love the life I've got.
13:06But if I had my time again, if I didn't know what the life I was going to have,
13:10yeah, I'd go.
13:12I'd go to Australia.
13:16I think we're too old now.
13:21Now my son does it instead.
13:24Noel believes Daniel's move will be a success.
13:27He's looking into mining out there.
13:29When he talks about the mining thing, it looks so appealing.
13:32You know, and he could stand to make a lot of money.
13:36And Daniel, I wouldn't say he likes being on his own,
13:38but I think he'd be all right.
13:40What a life.
13:44After missing out himself, Noel is keen that Daniel takes the steps that he couldn't.
13:49Daniel might struggle missing the family, struggle to adapt,
13:54but you've just got to follow your dreams, haven't you?
13:58If it was my decision and up to me,
14:01yeah, Daniel would be on an aeroplane going.
14:03He really would.
14:05Yeah, I really want him to go.
14:07I'd hate for him to regret not doing something he really fancies doing.
14:13I don't want him to, you know, in ten years' time, five years' time,
14:16go, oh, I wish he'd gone now.
14:18I really want him to go.
14:25Kids in this house...
14:27Heidi, I don't want to pay.
14:29...have to share rooms,
14:31share toys,
14:32and queue for the bathroom.
14:35You'd think they'd be out of the door at the first opportunity.
14:39So in school I've been learning about family,
14:41and there was a large study that looked at families
14:45and it found that children that are in a large household
14:49tend to have, like, better mental health.
14:52It found that large families provide children with built-in company,
14:56that there was nothing better for socialising kids
14:59than giving them roommates with whom to play,
15:01which can foster social skills, problem-solving abilities
15:04and life experience.
15:06Still a bit too noisy for me.
15:09My pastas cooked a lot quicker than yours.
15:11Which one was which?
15:13Chicken and bacon.
15:15These two symbolise the close bonds within the Radford family.
15:18Right, Ellie, we need to get that table.
15:20Oh, Amy.
15:22For years now, Ellie and Amy have shared a bedroom together.
15:25And, well, pretty much everything else.
15:26It's definitely fair to say that Ellie and Amy are the two closest siblings.
15:37We were looking at all the family pictures
15:39and me and Amy are constantly with each other.
15:42We just stood next to each other in, like, nearly every picture.
15:45When me and Amy were very young,
15:48it was always us two in...
15:50A bedroom.
15:51A bedroom.
15:53We used to have this really nice bump-in in this room.
15:56And even when we had separate beds, we were sleeping in the same bed.
15:59Ellie.
16:01Why are you down there?
16:03I can't be comfy, darling.
16:04Come on.
16:06Right, go. Come on.
16:07We always walk to school together.
16:09We'd basically do everything together,
16:11apart from go to the toilet.
16:13Oh, but we did when we was little.
16:15We never had twins, but it definitely is fair to say
16:18that Ellie and Amy are like twins in their relationship.
16:21But by late teens, even the closest of sibling bonds are being tested.
16:26I think I've done pretty good with my room now.
16:30Ellie has won the right to the vacant room.
16:33Katie moved out and I got this room.
16:35So, I've got my own space now.
16:37I like having my own room, it's very nice.
16:39I don't have anyone coming in my wardrobes, taking my clothes.
16:42And my room's only messy when I make it messy, not when anybody else is making a mess.
16:49Hey.
16:51With them no longer sharing a room, Amy is in shock.
16:55Ellie's actually moving.
16:57It just happens so fast.
16:59There was no, like, slow, gradual thing.
17:02I'm upset that she's left.
17:05But I've always shared a room with Ellie.
17:07Ellie, I think she's matured a bit quicker than Amy.
17:13Woo!
17:14She's more outgoing, a bit more adventurous.
17:17Oh, my gosh! She jumped! She jumped!
17:19Oh, my gosh!
17:22Whereas, Amy's a bit more reserved, isn't she?
17:26Yeah.
17:27She's a bit more fun things instead.
17:28A bit quieter. Yeah.
17:30Doing Lego is just so therapeutic.
17:33Apart from when you've lost a piece.
17:37It's quite weird having my own room, because Amy's not in there, but...
17:41I guess it's the end of an era for me and Amy.
17:43Watch out, lads.
17:45If you need any help, just yell.
17:48Summer is approaching, and Morecambe's busy season has begun.
18:05Have you got another Americano?
18:06Yeah.
18:07Oh, yeah, I've got two pots of tea.
18:09Are you going to rush up?
18:11One man expecting to avoid the crowds this year is Australia-bound Daniel.
18:16Don, have you seen the keys?
18:18I've not seen the keys anywhere.
18:19He's committed to make the move down under.
18:22Going on a plane.
18:24Going on a plane.
18:25Yeah.
18:27But Mum Sue has identified a problem.
18:29Got them.
18:30Quick, let's go.
18:32Luckily, some of us are organised and check things.
18:36He only had three months on his passport,
18:38but to get into Australia, you have to have six.
18:42How has this happened?
18:43I didn't realise.
18:44Sue's got an appointment at the passport office in Liverpool.
18:48Could you imagine getting to the airport and then saying,
18:51no, sorry, you can't get on your flight?
18:53Could have been a right disaster, that, Dan.
18:57I wouldn't say I'm the most organised person in the world, to be honest.
18:59I do kind of wing quite a lot of stuff.
19:03Well, I don't know.
19:04I mean, is this disorganised Daniel?
19:07Or is he soiling the nest again?
19:10You know, putting obstacles in the way.
19:13Who knows?
19:14Only time will tell.
19:16Oh, my goodness, this traffic, that's ridiculous.
19:19Are they ever going to change?
19:21You can't blame Daniel for the bad traffic.
19:24I think we've got, like, ten minutes before the appointment.
19:27If we don't get there,
19:28I don't know when you're going to be able to book an next appointment.
19:31They need to find the passport office and quick.
19:35Is it the next left?
19:37Yeah, but I can't work out if it's this one or the next one.
19:41I'm not sure if we should have turned right back there.
19:44So...
19:45Joking, Dan.
19:47Wait, that, you're going down there.
19:48Left.
19:50That was your left.
19:52Oh, God.
19:57A bit fine, aren't we?
20:01I'm sure it's not that.
20:03I've never been here, so I have no idea.
20:04Daniel will have to sprint to the finish.
20:11Right, go, run.
20:12Good luck.
20:15Dearie me.
20:16Kids.
20:18It does make me worry about what else he's not, you know, remembering.
20:21But he's going to have to learn fast, isn't he, really?
20:24Because he's going to be going on his own,
20:25so he's going to have to stand on his own two feet.
20:30You never stop worrying about your kids, do you?
20:32I mean, Daniel is an adult at the end of the day,
20:35but you are always going to worry as a parent.
20:39Dan is very independent.
20:41He definitely knows life skills
20:44and, you know, how to go out into the big, wide world on his own.
20:47But it is going to be very different
20:50because, obviously, he's going to be the other side of the world.
20:53If something does go wrong, I won't be able to help him,
20:57and that's really hard.
20:59I see a passport!
21:02Got there on time.
21:03Panic over, Dan.
21:07A disaster has been averted.
21:10He's actually there.
21:12But the next weeks and months will be tough for Sue.
21:15As a mum, it does feel really strange
21:18when one of your children move to the other side of the world.
21:21It's not something that, obviously, you know, we're used to,
21:25because none of our kids have ever done that.
21:28I'm going to get one of those 99 jobbies.
21:30Oh, this is going to be refreshing, this.
21:32It feels a long, long way away.
21:35There you go, Mum.
21:37But today is bittersweet.
21:40This is one of the last things that we're going to do together
21:42for a long time.
21:44It is quite a sad thought, really,
21:46because Dan lives at home, so we see him every day,
21:49and when he heads off to Australia...
21:54I don't know when we'll see him again.
21:57He'll never live in the house again.
22:01We're definitely going to miss him.
22:04It's been an exhausting but memorable day.
22:08How many crocodiles do you think we're in here?
22:10I think probably not.
22:12But you are going somewhere where there will be crocodiles, Dan.
22:16Where? Oh, Australia.
22:18Oh, my God.
22:19Jump, jump, jump, jump.
22:31Jump, jump, you'll hurt yourself.
22:33Just a few short weeks ago...
22:35Down.
22:37Ellie and Amy were sharing a room and rarely seen a part.
22:41They are very close, aren't they?
22:42Yeah.
22:43They're, like, joined at the hip, everything they do.
22:45They like to be with each other all the time.
22:49But since Ellie moved out of their shared room,
22:52the two have been spending a bit less time together.
22:55This is my boyfriend, Stephen.
22:57Ah, the old chestnut.
23:00Stephen's best characteristics are...
23:03He's very, very nice.
23:05Puts everyone before himself.
23:09Ellie and Stephen have been together for three weeks
23:11after being introduced by older sister Sophie.
23:15He's a good cook.
23:18Works hard.
23:20Has a good job.
23:22And he's patient.
23:24Very patient with me.
23:26And today is a big day for the young couple.
23:29Stephen is coming round today to meet my mum and dad
23:31and a few of the other siblings.
23:35He set off about five minutes ago,
23:38so he should be here any minute.
23:42I don't really know what his reaction would be like
23:44to meeting so many little ones as well as adults.
23:49I'm a little bit nervous, I won't lie.
23:52But I think he's more nervous,
23:54so I'm trying not to be nervous.
23:56Erm, I just hope my mum and dad like him.
23:58This is his time to shine.
24:03No pressure Stephen.
24:05Hiya.
24:06Alright Steve?
24:07Yeah, I'm good, how are you?
24:08Come in.
24:10Time to meet the Radfords.
24:14Right, come through Steve.
24:17There's no room left, so I'll just put your chair out, sorry.
24:20Calm down!
24:23Oh, goodness me!
24:25Archie!
24:26Oh my God!
24:29Right, kids.
24:31Shut up!
24:33I would not blame Stephen for backing up.
24:36I mean, come on.
24:38We're not the average family, are we?
24:40It's got to be daunting, hasn't it?
24:42Time for the interrogation to begin.
24:44So, are you Markham, Barnum, Brad, Steve?
24:49I am, yeah.
24:51Nice.
24:53How did you meet there?
24:54Very selfish.
24:56Hello, I saw a friend.
24:57A good start, but with such a big family come a lot of questions.
25:01What do you do to work?
25:03I work in construction.
25:06What are your hobbies, Steve?
25:08I'm going to go to the gym.
25:10How old are you?
25:1122.
25:13Would you like a good family?
25:14I think I want two or three kids.
25:15Yeah.
25:16Not 22.
25:17How old are you?
25:20First impressions of Stephen are, he is just such a lovely lad.
25:24He really is, isn't he?
25:25Yeah.
25:26Just a nice, charming lad.
25:27Yeah, he is.
25:28Very polite, in fact, actually.
25:30Hard-working, lovely lad.
25:32Fresh air, wasn't he?
25:33Yeah.
25:34So, Stephen, Bonnie just asked if you've got money.
25:37That's the most important question.
25:38He did, then he got a girlfriend.
25:41There's the maker of Bonnie.
25:44Ellie's definitely chosen well, but that's just Ellie for you.
25:47She never settles for anything.
25:49But the best.
25:50Best, yeah.
25:51So I feel like those two are a lovely couple.
25:55She's one of the nicest people I've ever met.
25:57I've never heard her say anything bad about anyone.
26:00She's got lovely smiles.
26:01And I'll get three pies as well.
26:04So that's like a bonus, innit?
26:09So far, so good.
26:10But Noel has one final test for Stephen to pass.
26:14So if you've been studying us, let's see how many rabbits you can name.
26:17You've got to get at least ten.
26:20Millie, Sue, Noel, Ellie, Katie, Bonnie, Heidi, Amy, Archie,
26:28and, er...
26:30Harley.
26:31Hallie.
26:32Hallie.
26:33That's ten.
26:34He's done it.
26:35It's the initiation test.
26:37Over and done with.
26:39He did well.
26:40He did.
26:41Poor Steve, you know, there was all these questions being fired at him
26:43from kids in every direction, so he did well.
26:46No mean feat for anybody getting involved with our kids, is there?
26:49Right, Steve.
26:50Well done.
26:51Got a cuppa?
26:52Yes, please.
26:53Yeah.
26:54Yeah, what?
26:55One, two.
27:05Growing up in this house can't be easy.
27:07Go on and get mashing.
27:09No, don't smash it.
27:11Mash it.
27:12But though the house is full...
27:14Does anyone have any black?
27:16He does look happy.
27:17I don't think people with just an average size family do realise just how amazing it is having
27:29a big family.
27:30Cinderella was having such fun that she forgot all about her promise to her fairy godmother.
27:36Living in a house this busy, it's just a great place to be.
27:40I remember when I grew up, I was holding myself and my brother, so it was a bit quiet at times,
27:46especially if it was raining and you're stuck in the house, you got pretty bored.
27:49But these lot, it must be great for them growing up.
27:52What's the best part about having so many brothers and sisters?
27:55It's good because I've always got friends.
27:57You get to play with a lot of people.
27:59Woo!
28:00Yay!
28:01I think a bigger family is better than a smaller family,
28:04because in a bigger family you have a lot of people to rely on.
28:08And then if you ever have a problem, you've got siblings to go to sell.
28:11I couldn't imagine a better place to live.
28:15Love my parents.
28:16Family's great.
28:18We will take care of each other.
28:22You're always surrounded by so much fun, love and laughter.
28:26Home.
28:27Yeah!
28:28Home.
28:29Yeah!
28:30Home.
28:31Wherever love takes us.
28:33Home.
28:34Home.
28:35Home.
28:36Home.
28:37We are home.
28:39Whenever love takes you.
28:41Home.
28:42Home.
28:43What's that?
28:44Home.
28:45It's just never a dull moment.
28:47Home.
28:48Home.
28:49Home.
28:50Home.
28:51Home.
28:52Home.
28:53Home.
28:54Home.
28:55Home.
28:56Home.
28:57Home.
28:58Home.
28:59Home.
29:00Home.
29:01Home.
29:02Home.
29:03Home.
29:04It's only four weeks since Katie moved out,
29:06but she's already missing the hustle and bustle of the Radford home.
29:10Home.
29:11What's it like living here and not at your family home anymore?
29:15It's very quiet.
29:16So every little noise I hear, I'm skitzing out.
29:20The other day, it was really windy.
29:22It sounded like someone was trying to open my door,
29:24turning to run home.
29:28And it wasn't the first time.
29:32She was coming around every single day,
29:34half eight in the morning, and then not going back until
29:37probably six o'clock at night.
29:39I think she was just missing everybody.
29:48Katie's old home may offer familiarity,
29:51but Sue believes she should look forward.
29:55Katie coming around to the house every day
29:57is not really going to help her settle into being in the flat on her own.
30:03She's trying to help her.
30:04I feel like there's got to be a bit of tough love there.
30:07My mum's text.
30:09She said, I can't come round today.
30:13That's very strange.
30:19Some days I do regret moving from home,
30:21because memories like Ronnie's first smile,
30:25or his first giggle.
30:27I'd like to share the moments with all my family.
30:30They're missing out on that.
30:33There we go.
30:34You're getting hungry now.
30:36With partner Connor not back to late tonight,
30:38Katie's got a lonely day ahead of her.
30:40What are we going to do, Ronnie?
30:44What are we going to do?
30:45You've grown up in a massive family all of a sudden to just you and your partner on your own in a little flat somewhere, isn't it?
30:56So it's a big difference.
30:58This sort of problem requires a Radford sort of solution.
31:05Hi, Katie!
31:07What are you all doing?
31:09Hi, Mummy.
31:10Hi, Mummy.
31:11Hi, Mummy.
31:12If Katie can't come to the mountain,
31:13maybe you've got to bring the mountain to Katie.
31:16Yay!
31:17I wasn't expecting this.
31:20What's all this about?
31:22It's such a massive adjustment, isn't it?
31:25Going from such a busy, full, full-on house to moving into your own flat,
31:30and it's really, really quiet.
31:33But I think also, with Katie having Ronnie,
31:36I don't think she's kind of had time to make the flat as homely as what she wants.
31:41We've brought you some presents.
31:43A few home comforts.
31:47Oh, a hot water bottle.
31:49With your initial on it.
31:51To make it a proper true home.
31:54It takes time, doesn't it?
31:55At our first house, it was old and horrible inside.
31:58There was wood chip on every single wall, wasn't it?
32:00For the kitchen unit, it's brown.
32:02Yep.
32:03It had no flooring in the kitchen.
32:04It was just concrete.
32:05The bathroom was yellow.
32:06Custard yellow, wasn't it?
32:07Yeah, it was.
32:08I remember that.
32:09It's nothing like that.
32:10This flat is nice.
32:12It just needs a bit of love.
32:14Who's made all these?
32:16Um, us.
32:17Oh, is that you?
32:18Oh, I love that.
32:19Is that food here?
32:20Oh, thank you, Heidi.
32:21A bit of styling.
32:22Right, where shall we put that one there?
32:23And rearrangement.
32:24That one there?
32:25Yes.
32:26Topped off with a reminder of home.
32:27Oh, wow.
32:28Well, 22 reminders, actually.
32:29This is Daniel, Casca, Mummy and Daddy.
32:30Just in case you missed us.
32:31When you leave this house, you never leave this family, you know.
32:33We're always here, aren't we?
32:34You can't get rid of us.
32:35A visit from Sue and the kids has given Katie the boost she needed and helped turn her house
32:42into a home.
32:43It's great to see everybody.
32:44It's great that there's so many of us.
32:45But it has made me rethink, maybe I need a bigger front room.
32:50Yeah.
32:51Family.
32:52Yeah.
32:53Family.
32:54Yeah.
32:55Family.
32:56There are now only two weeks before Daniel is due to leave for Australia.
32:59It's great to see everybody.
33:00It's great that there's so many of us.
33:03But it has made me rethink, maybe I need a bigger front room.
33:06Yeah, family.
33:09There are now only two weeks before Daniel is due to leave for Australia.
33:25Getting a rapper to the other side of the world is an ambition fulfilled.
33:30It's like putting a man in space to me.
33:32Daniel's finishing what I didn't even start.
33:35And it'd be somewhere different to holiday too.
33:38But today, Daniel's employers have thrown him a curve ball.
33:42I'm just round the corner, Mum.
33:44I'll see you in five.
33:45He's meeting his mum to talk it through.
33:47When you think you're ready to go and then, yeah, there's stuff happening at work.
33:52What's going on then?
33:54I've had a good job offer to go work in Hartlepool.
33:58They gave me the opportunity to work all of next year and all of the year after.
34:03And that never ever happens.
34:04Work here in the UK?
34:06Yeah.
34:07Hmm.
34:08It's a really good opportunity.
34:09They want me to start in six weeks.
34:11It's guaranteed work and it's more money as well.
34:13Which is the reason why I was thinking, well, do I just wait then?
34:17What?
34:18Do you lay Australia against?
34:23The big part is definitely I don't actually know what it's like to live and work in Australia.
34:29Whereas I know what it's like to live and work over here.
34:31So I'm at a crossroads with deciding between dreams and reality.
34:36Whether to go to Australia or to just carry on with life over here.
34:41I don't know.
34:42It's a lot of money to pass up that works out better for me to stay here and whatnot.
34:47The more financially free you are, it's not having to constantly worry about, can I afford to do this?
34:53Can I afford to do that?
34:54The better.
34:55Mm.
34:56So I don't want to, like, get there and regret going, doubting, have I done the right thing?
35:01Because I've got work that could earn a lot more money.
35:04Because it is it.
35:05It is a lot of money.
35:06So.
35:07I know what Noel will say.
35:09I think this is Dan, you know, soiling the nest again.
35:12But I think Dan is done with that.
35:14I think this is genuinely just a young man that is caught at the crossroad.
35:19Your dad thinks you will regret it if you don't go and try and do it.
35:24Hello.
35:25Hello.
35:26Yeah.
35:27The thing that's holding me back, really, is just, Dad, I don't want to let him down.
35:40He wanted to go himself and now he wants me to do it.
35:42We did a deal that I'd go and I know what it means to him.
35:49Obviously he's bought the plane ticket and Dad even purposely booked a one-way flight.
35:54Non-refundable.
35:55So I can't talk myself out of it or anything.
35:58Look, you've got to forget what Dad wants.
36:00It's your life and your decision.
36:02It's definitely important to me that my dad's proud of me because obviously I never want
36:07to let my dad down or have him think of me as someone not to be proud of.
36:12So going to Australia would, yeah, definitely make my dad proud of me.
36:17I am a bit annoyed with Noel.
36:19I think he's definitely got it wrong, Dan.
36:22He's under a lot of pressure without having Noel add on to that.
36:27It's still open.
36:28I'm not sure.
36:29Because it's booked.
36:31I could literally decide the day before.
36:34Whatever decision you choose to make, Dan, you know, we'll support you, whatever.
36:38I don't know.
36:40I might just bite the bullet and go into anywhere.
36:43You're the only one that can decide this.
36:45Which is it to be?
36:47I'm not sure yet.
36:49Today is a momentous one in the Radford house.
37:09Where's Daniel?
37:10He's upstairs packing.
37:12After countless false alarms, it's finally happening.
37:16I'm not going to be needing a woolly jumper over there.
37:18Budgie smugglers?
37:20I won't be taking any budgie smugglers.
37:23I'll be taking shorts.
37:25I think that's more my style.
37:27Deciding to go was not an easy decision.
37:31I have been hesitant on deciding whether I want to go or not.
37:36To be honest, I'm not 100% sure.
37:38Obviously, I'm going to miss my family and I'm not sure when I'll see them again.
37:41But also, I can't really help but think about the job offer that I'll be leaving behind.
37:46But, yeah, I'm just going to bite the bullet.
37:51At the end of the day, I can only test the waters and see if I actually enjoy it.
37:55So, that's what I'll do.
37:57But Daniel's not the only one who's made a momentous decision.
38:06I was actually really sad last night because Ellie's moving and I'm not going to have my go-to sister living with me anymore.
38:13This jacket's so thick it literally doesn't fold.
38:16And it's all happened really fast.
38:18Today, I am moving into my flat with my boyfriend.
38:22Packing up all my stuff.
38:25I didn't realise how much I had till I've started packing.
38:30Ellie moving in with Stephen quite quickly is definitely not typical of Ellie.
38:36No.
38:37So, Ellie doesn't shy away from taking me.
38:39So, you know that she's really into Stephen.
38:42Because otherwise, she definitely wouldn't have moved in Colbert, would she?
38:44No.
38:45There's no way.
38:46I know she wouldn't give up being in this house, especially as how close she is to Amy.
38:52She wouldn't give all that up.
38:53No.
38:54If she knew that Steve wasn't the right one.
38:56I'm very excited to move out.
38:59It's something new.
39:00But I am going to miss my home.
39:03I have lived in this house ever since I was born.
39:06So, almost 20 years.
39:08Hello.
39:09Oh, my God, Ellie.
39:11Is all this all yours?
39:13Yeah.
39:14Are your wardrobes empty?
39:15Yeah.
39:16I think moving out is going to be very different.
39:19I've not really known anything other than living at home with my parents.
39:24But you've got to learn new things and it's a part of life.
39:29My God.
39:30What have you got in here?
39:32I think this suitcase is over your baggage allowance.
39:37This one's got pasta bake trays in.
39:42Be careful.
39:43I'll be careful.
39:45Before we couldn't get them to move out.
39:48Oh, dearie me.
39:49Now the dropping light flies.
39:51Would you say this is the worst part of moving out?
39:53Just going to go down these stairs.
39:55Come Christmas time, there'll be nobody left.
39:58Many hands make light work.
39:59Many hands make light work.
40:01So, what days will you be coming round for your tea and your washing doing?
40:11Done.
40:12But before Noel drives Ellie to her new home, he has another problem to sort.
40:18Did you give Noel the telling off?
40:22Dan's only going because he feels he has to go to please you.
40:26I don't think so. Not really.
40:27Well, I think he is.
40:28Because you are trying to relive your youth.
40:31No problem.
40:32Trying to make the kids interested in their careers, but you're telling Dan the complete opposite.
40:36You're selling him a dream when he's got a real chance of making himself something.
40:40Okay.
40:41Well, I'll talk to him.
40:43Daniel's torn and it's Noel's fault.
40:48Hi, Dan.
40:49Heyo.
40:50You all right?
40:51Mum was saying that you've got another offer, another power station, which seemingly is a really good one.
41:00I've got guaranteed work now, really.
41:02I think I'm guilty of just pushing you too hard to go, and I shouldn't have done.
41:07I feel like it was something I wanted to do when I was a lot younger and sort of pushing you into going.
41:12I was going to get you to live my dream almost, you know what I mean?
41:15I don't think you pushed me into going over there.
41:17I think I probably did.
41:19If you've got this job coming up, that would be probably similar money to what you'd be earning out there anyway.
41:24Yeah, definitely.
41:25You can't afford to turn it down.
41:27Yeah.
41:28Feels too good to pass on, really.
41:30No, I've been offered work for two years.
41:33You need to take it.
41:36Daniel's going to take up the contract offer.
41:40But what of Australia?
41:43So what do you think I should do about the ticket, then?
41:45I think it's just good.
41:47Go out there for holiday.
41:49We'll get your return ticket to come home, Dan.
41:52Just not business class.
41:56No, it can definitely be annoying at times, but when he makes a mistake, he definitely makes up for it in spades.
42:03Daniel will still be leaving, but for now, it'll be somewhere closer to home.
42:09Sometimes you've got to remember your dreams are not your kids' dreams.
42:14Dreams are very personal.
42:16Some dream of going to Australia.
42:18Some dream of going to...
42:20Hartlepool.
42:21Has Hartlepool gone on a beach?
42:23No matter how big your brood is, you definitely do notice when one of them moves out.
42:42It is a big deal.
42:45I'm really pleased for her.
42:47But at the same time, yeah, we'll miss her around the house.
42:49But, you know, it'll be an empty room.
42:51It'll be musical bedrooms again.
42:53Is there a tinge of sadness in getting your own room?
42:59I don't want to move into it yet.
43:01Why is that?
43:03Because if I move fully into a bedroom, then it's final, but she's actually officially moved out.
43:11It's too real.
43:17Too sad.
43:24It's a nice feeling having your own place, isn't it?
43:26Yeah.
43:28I don't think it matters whether you have a big family or a small family.
43:31Something nice.
43:32Moving out of your home is never easy.
43:34Whether you leave home to move to the other side of the world, or just to the other side of town.
43:39See you later, guys.
43:40We're running around the corner, aren't we?
43:41In a close family like the Radfords, you'll always be missed.
43:46Have fun.
43:48And if you're moving in together, just get ready to compromise.
43:53We can watch Love Island tonight because someone's getting dumped.
43:56Definitely not.
43:58You can watch Love Island on your own.
44:00No.
44:06Next time.
44:07I think with your second pregnancy, it's more draining.
44:10I'm knackered.
44:11She's still working just as hard as she ever is.
44:16I don't feel well again.
44:17When you're pregnant, your body's going through such a massive thing.
44:21The body tells you when you need to slow down.
44:28What's the matter?
44:29It doesn't feel like he's moving.
44:30It doesn't feel like he's moving.
44:31It doesn't feel like he's moving.
44:32I can keep watering and treating him.
44:35You know it doesn't feel like the new baptism was old.
44:36It doesn't feel like late, but I can't drink.
44:37It doesn't feel like there's no emocionamin' here.
44:38It doesn't feel like dia's burning.
44:39You know it doesn't feel like he's moving.
44:41It doesn't feel like the new soothing design of your young people.
