00:00Hello and welcome to this National James Weather Update for Monday.
00:04We have got a large cloud band that is moving across the nation here,
00:07coming down from the northwest where we have a feed of tropical moisture
00:10in the southwest of the country.
00:13There are speckled clouds, there is a lot of cold air,
00:15there are lots of showers and thunderstorms moving through.
00:17All of this is going to be slowly moving eastwards as the week goes on.
00:21So let's have a look day by day at what we can expect.
00:24Today into the southeast, hardly anything at all, just some cloud building.
00:27The rain band here, it is in the western parts of South Australia,
00:30just coming into the southeast.
00:32Lots of activity happening over in the southwest.
00:34Very quiet across in through here.
00:36High pressure is now up in through here.
00:38It has packed its bags.
00:39It's gone up to Queensland and that means that the weather systems
00:42can actually move across the southeast.
00:44So we've got a bit of a difference in the weather pattern this week.
00:47That is Monday.
00:47Let's now have a look at Tuesday.
00:49Here is that band of rain moving across the southeast now.
00:52The cold front with that is now up to here.
00:55So we're not feeling in Queensland yet or on the east coast of New South Wales.
00:59We're not going to feel it as rain.
01:00We're going to feel it as a cold wind when this cold air moves through.
01:04Lots of that still to come in behind it.
01:06Where is the high pressure in behind this weather system?
01:09You can't even see it on the map.
01:10It is so far over to the west.
01:11It is off the page here.
01:13Well, as long as that stays back there,
01:15cold front after cold front could just keep moving through,
01:18affecting the southeast but also the southwest until the high moves in.
01:22So that's on Tuesday.
01:23Let's now have a look at Wednesday.
01:25Cold air moving across the southeast.
01:27The cold front now up to here.
01:29So about to hit Brisbane on Wednesday night.
01:32It has moved through Sydney, so there's a cold wind.
01:34You'll notice that it hits the ranges.
01:36It increases as it goes to the ranges.
01:38And that dries out on the eastern side.
01:40That's the dry side of the ranges this time.
01:42This is not a system for the east coast.
01:44It's everything to the west and south of that.
01:46So lots of wet weather in through here
01:48and still seeing it over in the southwest on Wednesday.
01:51Into Thursday, starting to ease there, but still the high is not in.
01:55We've got yet another one moving across the southeast
01:57and there's yet another cold front that is lining up in behind it.
02:00So they're just going to keep on coming.
02:02At the end of the week, that's when the chilliest air arrives.
02:06We're looking at snow down to low levels in Tasmania.
02:08That's on Friday into Saturday.
02:10So here we're Friday.
02:11And there we have Saturday.
02:13So it just keeps on coming.
02:14Now, by this stage, the next high pressure system is starting to move in.
02:18So that will bring an end to the party in terms of the wet weather,
02:21the cold weather party that's going to be moving across the south.
02:23All right.
02:24What is that going to add up to?
02:25The situation sort of just diminishes as we move across the weekend
02:29into early next week.
02:30But here we have for the next week,
02:32looking at 25 to 50 millimetres in that southwest corner,
02:35steadily decreasing as you move inland.
02:37But the excitement is now in the south-east.
02:40Up on the range is 100 to 150 millimetres.
02:43Some of that is rain.
02:44The rest of that is snow.
02:46Big snowfalls are likely once it changes later on Wednesday.
02:50But evening through here, 25 to 50 millimetres.
02:52Anything yellow is 25 to 50.
02:54Huge falls in the western parts of Tasmania.
02:57It decreases as it heads into the south-east here,
03:00as it heads into the northern parts of New South Wales.
03:03And also there is nothing for the east coast as this comes through,
03:06except a chilly wind as that colder air arrives.
03:09As always, head to Farm Online Weather for the latest.
