Mexican Sen. Lilly Tellez discusses the alleged infiltration of cartels in the Mexican government and President Donald Trump’s potential role in solving the conflict on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend.’ - Senator Lilly Téllez said that US aid in combating cartels in Mexico is welcome, and that the only ones who don't like Trump's attempt to help are the narco-politicians. - During a recent appearance on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Mexican Senator Lilly Tellez shed light on the alarming issue of cartel infiltration within the Mexican government. In her candid discussion, Tellez expressed grave concerns about the pervasive influence of drug cartels, which she claims have not only undermined public safety but also infiltrated governmental institutions at various levels.
Tellez pointed to numerous instances in which cartels have allegedly exerted control over political processes and even colluded with officials. This troubling dynamic, she argued, poses significant challenges to governance and the rule of law in Mexico. She emphasized that the Mexican public is increasingly aware of the ties between organized crime and certain government officials, a reality she believes hampers efforts to combat drug-related violence and corruption.
In addressing potential solutions to the crisis, Tellez turned her attention to former President Donald Trump’s approach to border security and drug trafficking during his administration. She praised Trump’s emphasis on building a wall and enhancing border controls as effective measures that contributed to reducing drug flow into the United States. Tellez contended that a robust collaboration between the U.S. and Mexico could play a crucial role in tackling the cartel problem, advocating for increased support and coordinated efforts to confront the violence.
The senator’s remarks highlight the growing recognition of the complex interplay between crime, governance, and international relations. As the conversation around cartel violence and its implications for both nations continues to evolve, Tellez’s stance underscores the urgent need for decisive action and collaborative strategies aimed at dismantling cartel networks that threaten stability and security in Mexico.
Mexican Senator Lilly Téllez engaged in a war of words with President Claudia Sheinbaum Thursday and Friday after telling Fox News that most Mexicans would welcome U.S. assistance in the war against drug cartels.
Téllez, a member of the conservative National Action Party (PAN), angered President Sheinbaum and members of the ruling Morena party by referring to them on Wednesday as narco-politicians resisting the U.S. offer to battle the cartels.
Sheinbaum responded by calling Téllez a traitor for encouraging U.S. intervention.
“It’s not a minor issue that a senator gave an interview to a foreign media outlet calling for intervention,” Sheinbaum said.
Téllez clapped back with a lengthy statement on social media, contending she said no such thing.
00:03She's calling Mexican Senator Lili Tellez a traitor for coming on Fox Noticias with me a few days ago and saying this.
00:10Listen.
00:11The help from the United States to fight the cartels in Mexico is absolutely welcome.
00:17And that is how the majority of Mexicans feel.
00:20The only ones who don't like that President Trump is sending help and trying to support Mexicans against the cartels are the narco politicians.
00:28That includes President Scheinbaum.
00:31Mexican President Claudia Scheinbaum responding, saying, quote, it's not a minor issue that a senator gave an interview to a foreign media outlet calling for intervention.
00:41Here to discuss is that Mexican Senator Lili Tellez.
00:45Senator Tellez, welcome to Fox Noticias.
00:47I'm just going to get right to it.
00:49Is Mexico a narco state?
00:52Yes, it is.
00:54And we all Mexicans know about it.
00:56And Mexicans are afraid of the alliance between the Mexican government and the cartels that have infested our nation.
01:06Can you explain this alliance between the president, her party, the Morena party, and the cartels?
01:13Yes, the party has financed, has given, the cartels have given so much money to these politicians, narco-politicians of Morena, to get into office, to get the power.
01:28So they protect, the Mexican government protects the cartels.
01:33That is why President Scheinbaum doesn't want the strong American leadership to help Mexico defeat the cartels.
01:44And also, Scheinbaum doesn't want the rest of the world to know what is happening here in Mexico.
01:50We are on the steps to be the next Venezuela.
01:54She is aligned with Venezuela as dictator with Cuba.
01:57And we are losing our country.
02:01They have destroyed our Republican institutions, the Democratic state.
02:08And we must, I think we all Mexicans, want and welcome the support of the United States to assist Mexican people against the cartels that have us all in this crisis with the traffic on fentanyl and migrants.
02:27So, her response to this, and I know this because her spokesperson came on our show in response to your interview, and they say, well, we just turned over 26 cartel members.
02:39We're working, we're sharing intelligence.
02:42What are they not doing?
02:44And why is she so resistant?
02:46She sort of speaks out of two sides of her mouth.
02:48We're working with you, Trump.
02:49And then she's chastising you for saying we need more help from the United States to crush the cartels.
02:55Because she really doesn't want the help of the United States.
02:59She is lying to Mexican people, telling Mexican people that the United States will get in control of the whole country.
03:08I never, I never listened such nonsense from President Trump.
03:13What we have listened is that President Trump wants to help Mexican people against the cartels.
03:20Mexican people are suffering.
03:21So, what they do is very, very little.
03:25We have very, we have huge narco-politicians here in the Senate, in the presidents, governors.
03:35Mexico is a very dangerous place.
03:38Well, that brings me to my next question.
03:41Because you are speaking very bluntly, very clearly about Mexico being a narco-state and the alliance and the connections to the president of Mexico.
03:52Are you afraid for your life?
03:55Yes, I am afraid.
03:56And the president has threatened me to proceed against me with criminal prosecution to get me out of the Senate and get me in jail just because I told you in this space, in Fox News, what is the reality of our country with the cartels.
04:14The cartels are dominating everything here in Mexico.
04:18They are in all the offices of the government, in the states, in the cities, and in the national government.
04:27So, of course, I am afraid, but I want people to know I will not step back.
04:35And I pray under God's guidance that we, the United States and Mexico, must work together to defeat the cartels and to get freedom for our country, for Mexico, to stop it from being the next Venezuela.
04:51Senator Lillie Dayas, a very brave woman indeed.
04:57Thank you so much for coming on our show and speaking the truth.
