The Leafy Sea Dragon looks like something straight out of a fantasy worldโ€”a dragon disguised as seaweed. Found only in the waters of southern and western Australia, this rare relative of seahorses and pipefish uses its leafy appendages to blend perfectly into its kelp and seagrass habitat. Despite its dragon-like name, itโ€™s a peaceful creature that drifts with the ocean currents, almost invisible to predators. Join us as we uncover the secrets of one of the oceanโ€™s most magical creatures!

00:00Is it possible for a plant to be both a fish and a dragon?
00:04Well, not this one.
00:07This is the leafy sea dragon, a real-life swimming plant
00:11that looks like a tiny green dragon with huge leaves,
00:15for fins, and a long, thin stem that looks like a neck.
00:20They can grow up to 30 centimeters long
00:22and are found in the oceans around Australia and New Zealand.
00:27But how do they move?
00:29Well, thanks to their flexible spines,
00:31they can swim in any direction, forwards, backwards, even upside down.
00:37And just like a fish, they have gills to breathe underwater.
00:41But they're not actually related to fish or any other animals.
00:45They're plants.
00:46So why do they live in the ocean?
00:49Well, the reason is kind of crazy.
00:52You see, these plants evolved from land plants
00:54that were probably washed away in a flood
00:56and then adapted to living in water.
00:59And over time, they lost their roots, stems, and leaves,
01:04which are all adaptations for life on land.
01:07But they kept their little dragon bodies.
01:09And they had to camp every other gezmeg poder
01:26where they were looking at food.
01:27They were looking at food.
01:28But they went along with it.
01:30They were able to get a lot of water,
01:31who's meaning to fill them in the air.
