00:00This frog can freeze itself alive.

00:03There are over 6,000 species of frogs on our planet,

00:06and they come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

00:10But this one is known as the freezing frog.

00:14And it's not just any ordinary frog.

00:18This little guy can survive in sub-zero temperatures

00:20by slowing down its metabolism to extremely low levels.

00:25It basically enters a state called cryptobiosis,

00:28and it's able to do this by producing a chemical called tremolite,

00:33which lowers the temperature of its body

00:35and makes it feel like it's in slow motion.

00:38The freezing frog can be found in the mountainous regions of the Himalayas,

00:42and it's perfectly adapted to survive the harsh conditions there.

00:47Its body is like a block of ice,

00:49and it can stay that way for months.

00:52But once the temperature rises above freezing,

00:55the frog will slowly come back to life.

00:58It's amazing to think that a creature like this exists.
