00:00Hello, welcome to Turf Moor, where Sunderland have just lost their first game of the Premier League season.
00:052-0 defeat at the hands of Burnley. Goals from Josh Cullen and Jadon Anthony, ultimately handing all three points to the home side.
00:13It was a difficult game for Sunderland, I think it's fair to say. Obviously, coming off such a high against West Ham last week,
00:19but they never really got going to the same extent here at Turf Moor.
00:22A couple of early chances, Eliza Mayenda had a short save from Martin de Bravcro, I think on reflection he'll probably feel that he should have buried it.
00:28And Chemsdine Talby, as well, went really close to opening the scoring.
00:33Burnley had a goal of their own, disallowed in the first half.
00:37Foul in the build-up, BAR ruled, so ultimately that one was chalked off.
00:42But then, pretty much from the go in the second half, Sunderland really struggled to get any sort of grip in it.
00:47Burnley scored early on, and then from then, they sort of seemed quite happy to almost do a Sunderland on Sunderland, if you like.
00:54You know, we've seen it so often with Regis Lepiris' side, a willingness to soak up pressure, to sort of hit teams fast and hard on the break.
01:02And that's ultimately what led to Burnley's second goal.
01:04You know, it was a period of the game in which Sunderland were really looking to unpick a defence that was sitting lower and more compact than it had been.
01:13And ultimately, Josh Cullen, again, very influential in the game.
01:17He picked the ball up, he played a wonderful ball over the top, into the path of Anthony, and he coolly finished.
01:23So, yeah, a difficult one for Sunderland.
01:25Like I say, maybe a little bit of a reality check for them.
01:27Obviously, Brentford next in the Premier League next weekend, given that Brentford have just gone and beaten Aston Villa as well.
01:33That looks like a really big game now, one that Sunderland will be desperate to win.
01:35But before that, obviously, Huddersfield Town in the Carabao Cup, you would imagine that Regis Lepiris will name a vastly changed line-up for that.
01:44But certainly here today, yeah, not what Sunderland will have been looking for whatsoever.
01:49And the emphasis now will be on finding a way to bounce back when they host Brentford at the Stadium of Light next weekend.
