Tony Adams on this year's Poppy Appeal
Transcript
00:00When I see the poppy I think about respect, I think about all the people
00:05that we've lost, honoured that they did that for us and we'll get the freedom of
00:11travelling around the world because of what they did. My father was in the
00:17British Army, played for the British Army football team. He was very proud of that
00:20and I was very proud of my father and the man that he was. With the poppies on
00:26the shirts we're using football as a tool to shine some light on the armed
00:32forces and to remember really it's important that we don't forget. So I get
00:38my children now and they're all asking me what's that about dad? So we've got the
00:42opportunity to sit down and start a conversation about you know their
00:47grandfathers, their great-grandfathers, the ones that went to war, the ones that you
00:52know laid down their lives. It sparks the conversation and it's important that we
00:56remember. These process means to them that they are being validated, acknowledged
01:04and respected but more than that it goes to vital services. So I'd encourage
01:10people to get involved in the match-worn shirt, a poppy appeal. It's a fantastic
01:16way to own a piece of history.
