00:02If you want to join in that way to the show, 617-779-7937 is now the number over the last couple months for the text line,
00:10as well as if you want to call on the show, tell everybody that you want to see Matt Collins cut.
00:14By the way, I didn't get to really address that because we were talking so much other stuff.
00:19I don't think Matt Collins should get cut.
00:21No, no, that's his skill set, 6'4", like no one else has because I think they will cut Baker.
00:26No one else is going to have that.
00:27He has total height priority.
00:29Like he has height privilege, I should say.
00:31And he's worked with Josh before, which I think, especially if they move on from Bourne or Bourne goes on IR,
00:36I think that does matter that he's worked with Josh before.
00:39And again, just positional fit.
00:41Not a lot of guys have the measurables.
00:43I do think people look at Collins' stats and they're like, this is such a jag guy, like just a guy.
00:50Why do we have him here and paying him like 3.5 mil guarantee?
00:54But I think Drake has targeted him a lot.
01:00I think he'll be good in the red zone, which you need.
01:02And I don't think that he's like, I don't think he's stealing a roster spot from somebody who is not going to be on the team or would be a practice squad player.
01:12That would be like so devastating not to have on here.
01:15I mean, look, Javon Baker, last night was tough.
01:19It was tough out there for Javon.
01:21He looked really bad.
01:22And he looks like he's gone.
01:24He looks like he's gone.
01:26It's unfortunate because he promised a big promise when he was drafted on draft night and said some wild stuff.
01:33And he has a lot of natural talent and he just didn't get it.
01:38Absolutely didn't get it the first season at all.
01:41And now he's behind and he just looks like he's somebody who I would say is probably gone.
01:46Yeah.
01:46I mean, just again, you look at that receiver group and it's Diggs is a no brainer.
01:49Obviously, Douglas, Booty, Hollins, Kyle Williams, and then Efton Chisholm.
01:54Like, are you really going to keep more than six guys?
01:56Like, I don't see that.
01:57You might have to keep nine or ten offensive linemen.
01:59I'm not keeping more than six receivers.
02:01So I talked before about the drafts.
02:05And, of course, the drafts have been a problem in New England for like a decade at this point.
02:10Yeah.
02:10You know, quick trivia question.
02:12You know the last time they gave a first round pick a second contract?
02:16This is good.
02:17A first round pick.
02:18A first round draft pick getting a second contract from the Patriots.
02:21You know the last guy?
02:21I mean, Gonzalez will get it in the future.
02:23But I don't want to have dead air right now.
02:25So just tell me.
02:26Donta Hightower.
02:26What?
02:26Drafted him in 2012.
02:28That's wild.
02:29Nuts.
02:29Because Malcolm Brown, Dominique Easley, Sonny Michelle, Isaiah Wynn, Nikhil Harry, none of those guys.
02:35Mack Jones.
02:37Cole Strange.
02:38That's been their first round picks.
02:39That is really tough.
02:40That is tough.
02:412012.
02:42Good call, John.
02:43John.
02:44Our producer, Zach Coe, was in like preschool.
02:46Like, damn.
02:47Is that true, Zach Coe?
02:48I was 13.
02:49You were 13?
02:51Wow.
02:51You were born in 1999?
02:52Such a baby.
02:52Yes.
02:53Hell yeah, man.
02:54It's a good year to be born in.
02:54Best decade ever.
02:55The 90s.
02:56Shout out to you for getting in on the 90s.
02:58Here's the 2024 draft.
03:00Let's go through this quickly, what you're thinking about it.
03:04Obviously, Drake May is a hit.
03:06Like, whether you have doubts that he's an absolute, you know, top 10 quarterback, that's fine.
03:13But I think right now, as we're sitting here, you can say that he's a hit.
03:16But Jalen Polk is on IR, as we learned yesterday.
03:19Would have got cut, though.
03:21So, I think he would have gotten cut.
03:22I think he still might get cut next year.
03:24So, it's very tough on-ramp for him through the NFL.
03:29I'm willing to say that's a miss.
03:31Yeah.
03:31So, he got a hit and a miss.
03:32Trade it out of Lad McConkie.
03:34Go to Caden Wallace.
03:36Might be a depth piece.
03:38Hasn't showed himself to be of starter capability.
03:41Hasn't solved any of your problems.
03:43Trending a little bit more towards a miss than a hit, to me.
03:46Leighton Robinson.
03:47Again, depth piece at best.
03:50Somebody who came in with a lot of attributes that people were excited about.
03:54Saying this could be somebody who helps out online.
03:57And closer to a miss than a hit, in my opinion.
04:00Unless he really develops.
04:01I think out of Wallace and Robinson, one of those guys makes the team.
04:06This year.
04:06Yeah, and I think it's Wallace.
04:07You think it's, yeah.
04:08It's like their ninth offensive lineman.
04:10Great.
04:10All right.
04:11So, you have your ninth offensive lineman.
04:13So, do we say there's two hits there?
04:14Do we count a ninth offensive lineman on a possibly eight win team?
04:18Can we call it a hit and a half?
04:19Is that allowed?
04:20A hit and a half.
04:21Javon Baker, absolute miss.
04:23He's gone.
04:24Marcella Stile, injured.
04:25I still think he's also, like, he would have been their fifth corner at best.
04:29Yeah, but John, you just went through the last segment bitching about how there wasn't enough depth.
04:33No, but I said their corner group is the one group that I think has depth.
04:36Okay.
04:37So, you say maybe he could have been a trade piece.
04:39Maybe.
04:40Maybe he could have been, like, a trade for a sixth, for a seventh round pick somewhere.
04:44I, fine.
04:45He's injured.
04:46I think you can put him more in the missed category.
04:47Yeah, I would agree.
04:48Joe Milton.
04:49So, you traded Joe.
04:51And there's the Joe Milton experience that Ken Laird, our boss, is following very carefully down in Dallas.
04:57Yeah, he's not that good.
04:58He's not.
04:58But I'm not worried about trading the sixth round backup QB pick away.
05:03I know that that's been a heroic position in the past, but not this guy.
05:10But would you call that a hit or a miss?
05:11Because you did trade him and get something back.
05:13I almost want to say irrelevant.
05:15Like, I would lean miss because.
05:16Like, neutral?
05:17Yeah, because you got something back for him, but he wasn't that good.
05:21And he won you the one game you wanted to lose.
05:24Yeah, that's it.
05:25You know what?
05:26That, I was about to say, I'm going to give it to the Patriots because I feel like to be nice to give them another hit.
05:33But maybe you make a good point.
05:35And I will say.
05:36Winning that last game was so much worse than trading him and what you got back.
05:41And they drafted him to be the backup quarterback behind May, and he is not that.
05:45Really, if you think of what they draft.
05:46No, but what they drafted him.
05:47Whose fault is that?
05:48What they drafted him for, he is not.
05:51So.
05:51This is true.
05:52Okay.
05:53Jaheem Bell.
05:53Yes.
05:54Yeah, big depth piece.
05:55Finish the sentence.
05:56That's a miss.
05:57Okay.
05:57So that's so, so far.
05:59I mean, we have one and a half hits from last year's draft.
06:02Yeah.
06:02And people will say, oh, why don't you wait two or three years to evaluate and grade the draft class?
06:07The Patriots don't have that luxury.
06:09And none of these guys look like, quote, developmental in my book outside of maybe Caden Wallace.
06:14And you should wait two or three years to evaluate a draft class.
06:18Not for wide receivers anymore.
06:19But the problem is, if they're cutting the guys, that's kind of the final grade, right?
06:24You know what I mean?
06:25And I remember, this is back in January, Fitzy and I had Chad Graff on the night show.
06:30And he talked about, he talked to people in the Patriots front office, and they felt this was a good draft.
06:35And those guys were all coached poorly last year.
06:38Well, now you got, and that opened my, I was like, okay, let's, but now you have Rabel and McDaniels and Terrell Williams and Doug.
06:45You have a good coaching staff.
06:47And those guys still, I mean, are any of, Drake Bay's gotten better.
06:52Have any of these other guys gotten better that are still here?
06:54Like, I don't know.
06:55I don't think so.
06:56So maybe they're just, it wasn't a good draft.
06:58Maybe not.
06:59All right.
07:00We're going to take a quick break on the other side.
07:02I'm going to bring back one of my favorite segments because it has my name in it.
07:06There's a segment we used to do called Megsplaining.
07:08At the noontime hour, there's a movement in Boston.
07:12And I guess it happens every summer.
07:14It returns next week.
07:16People are going topless.
07:18Are you in favor, John Lyons?
07:19Don't answer.
07:20Don't answer.
07:21Leave the people waiting.
07:22On the other side, we're going to talk about topless day coming to Boston next week.
07:27What's behind this?
07:28It's a lot weirder than you might think.
07:30It's not just about getting naked.
07:33There's some pretty weird movement behind this movement.
