Call for action to develop Maze Prison site
Transcript
00:00This site is a microcosm of our politics in Northern Ireland, where one party can
00:04veto and block progress. Twelve years on from the DUP and Sinn Féin fallout,
00:09the Maiselon Kesh site is still stuck in limbo. Yes, this is a symbol of our troubled past,
00:15a past that carries deep hurt and wounds, but it also has the potential to tell a story in a way
00:21that inspires reconciliation of a new and shared future. It could be an economic driver locally,
00:28creating thousands of jobs for Lycan Valley and beyond, and a new sporting hub with facilities
00:33for local athletes, community pitches, and we should have a direct road link to the M1.
00:38A place that tells our whole history factually, honestly and sensitively, from the prison buildings
00:45to our World War II heritage. Instead, taxpayers continue to pay for buildings frozen in time,
00:52hidden behind political myths about shrines that don't exist and they never will exist.
00:58The choice is simple. You can build a shared future that unites our community and delivers
01:02a better future for everyone, or we can keep saying no, staying divided, and holding ourselves back.
01:09I will always champion hope, reconciliation, and a shared society. And now it's time just to get on with delivery.
