Alle Jahre wieder kommt ein neues Call of Duty.

00:26und zwar Call of Duty.
00:43Opening Night Live-Show. Hallo und herzlich willkommen an Natalie und Miles. Schön, dass ihr da seid.
00:52Vielen Dank, dass ihr hier seid. Vielen Dank, dass ihr hier seid. Vielen Dank, dass ihr hier seid.
00:56Ja, ein round of applause. Hallo, danke für uns.
00:59So, Miles und Natalie, wie hat Gamescom been going für euch so far?
01:03Oh, mein Gott, was eine große Energie.
Oh, mein Gott. Ja, es war es. Es war wirklich cool.
01:25Die hardest part war das walk. Oh, mein Gott.
01:27Du hast dich zu machen. Ich fahre.
01:30Ich fahre. Ich fahre.
01:31Ich fahre. Ich fahre. Ich fahre.
01:32Ich fahre. Sie sind nicht. Ich fahre.
01:34Ich fahre. Ich fahre.
01:35Ich fahre.
01:35Ich fahre.
01:36Ich fahre.
01:36Ja, es fahre.
01:37Ja, es fahre.
01:38Ja, das war.
01:39Ich fahre.
01:40Ich fahre vor.
01:40So, beide Sie, Sie arbeiten bei Treyarch und Raven Software.
01:44Das ist richtig.
01:44So how do I have to imagine, does this collaboration work?
01:48How do you work together?
01:50Who's responsible for what?
01:52Yeah, we've worked together for a long time, really closely.
01:55So we've built a good bond over the years.
01:57And then we've been introducing other studios to the mix as well.
02:00So I think when it comes to Black Ops, we've really figured out a good recipe.
02:04And especially speaking from the production side,
02:07just takes a lot of planning and collaboration.
02:09And we really enjoy just like feeding off of each other's ideas,
02:13building on each other's tech advancements, all of that stuff.
02:17She nailed it.
02:17Like it's been a close collaboration,
02:20but that's actually the strength of it
02:21is you have so many different types of developers helping work on it
02:25that that helps represent the players, right?
02:28Different ways to play, different thinking.
02:31And that helps in when we're playtesting and iterating
02:33to make a better Black Ops.
02:35So Call of Duty is such a huge franchise.
02:37There have been so many Call of Duty games.
02:40How do you keep something like Call of Duty fresh?
02:42I mean, where do you start?
02:44And do you always start from scratch?
02:46Or do you build upon different games?
02:49Yeah.
02:49That's a great question.
02:50It is a good question.
02:51Well, with Black Ops 7 as an example,
02:53you know, we started Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 together.
02:56We knew we wanted each to have a unique identity,
02:59but something that we love to do,
03:01especially in Black Ops, is plant seeds
03:03and kind of build upon a lot of the lore
03:06that we've been building over the years.
03:08It's really exciting to us.
03:09Of course, introducing new ways for new players
03:12to get interested in the story.
03:14But I think a lot of it stems from choosing the era
03:16and choosing the characters that we want to tell that story.
03:20So, you know, with Black Ops 7, we're in 2035.
03:23And our story features David Mason.
03:27So we want to dig into his background.
03:29It makes sense.
03:30We last saw him in Black Ops 2 in 2025.
03:33Now we're 10 years later.
03:35That's such an interesting, like, chunk of time
03:37to dig into what has happened,
03:39what's the fallout since we saw him in Black Ops 2.
03:42Yeah.
03:42So we're just watching the trailer now,
03:46and Milo Ventimiglia, he's in the game.
03:48That's right.
03:49But you also have some other actors in there.
03:51Can you tell us a bit about them and their roles in the game?
03:54Yeah.
03:55Yeah, absolutely.
03:56So we also have Emma Kagan, who you're seeing here,
04:00played by Kiernan Shipka.
04:02And so she is the CEO of the Guild,
04:05which is this big tech force that's been in Avalon for a long time.
04:10And they have ideas on how they want to face this imminent threat, right?
04:15So we wanted somebody who could be charismatic
04:18from that, you know, outward-facing point of view,
04:21but also very pointed, very sharp.
04:23She has a background in computational economics and robotics
04:26to tell that story.
04:28And we thought Kiernan was a great fit.
04:30We also have some returning actors.
04:33So we got Michael Rooker back playing Mike Harper.
04:36He's awesome.
04:37He's so much fun.
04:38And he loves to, like, interject these one-liners
04:41that, you know, we try to retain the energy as much as we can.
04:44Yeah.
04:44And he's a good balance with Eric Samuels, also returning,
04:48played by John Eric Bentley.
04:50They've got a great chemistry.
04:51And then rounding out the team is newcomer Leilani Cipolla,
04:55played by Frankie Adams,
04:57who is also just her sarcasm, her badassery.
05:02She's, again, just a great fit to round out that team.
05:06And the story is so focused on that team balance and mentality.
05:12And so we really wanted to nail those characters, for sure.
05:15Yeah.
05:16And the first day we had them all on set
05:19was really the whole squad together.
05:21Oh, nice.
05:21Yeah.
05:21And David Mason, played by Milo,
05:23he came in and he was already David Mason.
05:25He was like, all right, well, here's what we got to do.
05:27And we were like, oh, my God.
05:28He was in character the whole time.
05:29It was perfect.
05:30And then...
05:31Just method acting the whole way.
05:32Basically, we went through a scene
05:33and it was the whole squad.
05:35It's like they had already been together.
05:37Okay.
05:37And it was the last one we knew it was going to work.
05:40And Leilani, Frankie Adams was like,
05:42it's like she already fit in Black Ops.
05:43We were like, were you in a game we didn't know about?
05:46You just made sense that you were in the game.
05:48So you just mentioned the whole squad and everything.
05:51You mentioned the different actors like Michael Rooker and Milo.
05:53And that's one of the big features, the co-op.
05:56Oh, yeah.
05:56How do I have to imagine this works?
05:58Because, you know, what if I don't play co-op?
06:00How does it look in the story?
06:01Are the other characters still part of that story?
06:04Oh, yeah.
06:04And what if I do play co-op?
06:06Only with like maybe two people total.
06:10Yeah.
06:10Does that change anything in how they're portrayed in the cut scenes or?
06:15No.
06:15So when we set out, we wanted to make a co-op campaign
06:18because it really ties to the story and each of the characters.
06:20But you can play solo.
06:22So all the players out there, if you're worried, don't worry.
06:24You can play solo and you're going to still get the amazing roller coaster,
06:27spectacle, blockbuster story.
06:30Nothing changes.
06:31All four characters are still there, you know,
06:33with you in the story and all this cinematics talking to you.
06:36But now we have the benefit is you can play up to four players.
06:39So two, three, four and go through the story.
06:42And again, it's that same story.
06:44And it was really important for us is it really we talk about the squad.
06:47We wanted to put players into that squad.
06:50And the best way to do that was to do co-op.
06:52So each player can feel like they are part of the squad.
06:56And you're really experienced in the story like the actual squad themselves.
07:00So it was really special to put co-op in and experience that.
07:04Yeah.
07:04And it's not it goes beyond just campaign, right?
07:07So you can jump in if you're going in with a squad of four.
07:10You can move around to the other modes together as well.
07:13We really dug into connectivity.
07:16So again, you can continue that social experience
07:18and say you want to set down the story for a little bit.
07:21You can move into MP.
07:22You can move into zombies.
07:24Again, just maintaining that squad.
07:25So talk, tell us some about the places that we're going to visit in the game.
07:32Because, of course, you've showcased a little bit of it.
07:34Can you maybe go in depth about one or two of them?
07:37Yeah.
07:38So I think one of the big places we've gone that we've never gone in Black Ops is Japan.
07:42And so we're diving into that region.
07:44It's a big one for the co-op campaign and multiplayer maps.
07:48And it's amazing.
07:48We want it to be authentic right to that location, but also make sure it fit into the story.
07:54And you're going to experience it in some really interesting ways, right?
07:56The neon lights running on the rooftops, seeing the buildings.
08:00And really the contrast of the old world and the new world 2035 mixed together was super interesting.
08:06And then some really interesting gameplay mechanics you saw in the trailer,
08:09like jumping off of billboards in Tokyo.
08:12I mean, that's a badass Black Ops moment.
08:14I think another one is Avalon, right?
08:16We seeded Avalon.
08:17Natalie touched on this in Black Ops 6.
08:20And now you get to further explore it even more.
08:22It's a Mediterranean coast.
08:24Through the co-op campaign, you're going to get these linear missions.
08:26So you get a taste of Avalon.
08:28Very unique.
08:29And then when you get to Endgame, our brand new sort of way where we're breaking the rules of the campaign after,
08:34all of Avalon opens up.
08:35Yeah.
08:36So the game also showcased some very crazy ideas and concepts.
08:42Just a few.
08:42Like huge swords crashing into flying islands and twisted highways in the sky.
08:52I mean, how does that fit into the whole story?
08:54And are you maybe worried a bit that this might alienate old school Call of Duty fans because it is so far out there?
09:01We still feel it's very connected to the Black Ops identity.
09:06So we're always pushing the envelope.
09:08We want to go places that maybe players haven't gone before.
09:12And so one of the areas, again, with Black Ops 7, that really made sense for the stories that we was telling was,
09:18how do we visualize and experience as players this individual experience that David's going through?
09:26Each of the team members is going through their own fears and their own regrets.
09:33And one of the ways that they all remain connected and that kind of grounds the story is we're in 2035.
09:39So they have what we call a C-Link and that's how they communicate.
09:43That's how they're experiencing some of these crazy things together.
09:47So there's a psychological element to it, but it's also very grounded within the world and within the tech.
09:54You know, and so we love having fun with it.
09:56We want to take you to interesting locations and then again, maybe some familiar places as well.
10:03Yeah, and for us, your question is, is there's always that fine balance and we never want to push it too far.
10:07And it feels really grounded in this near future.
10:10But also Black Ops has always done the unexpected.
10:13You go back to Black Ops 1.
10:14I've worked on every single Black Ops game and we're always finding new ways to challenge ourselves
10:18and really challenge the player on what they expect.
10:20Black Ops 7 does that and all of that mind bending, that's our wheelhouse.
10:24And I think we were getting excited because it just made sense.
10:27And I think the reception from the trailer is, it just makes a little bit of sense.
10:31It'll make more sense when you get into the game for reasons.
10:34Also in the game you showcase there's special abilities like a super jump and turning yourself invisible and stuff.
10:41How do these special abilities work?
10:43How do I obtain them?
10:44Are they tied to a specific character?
10:46Like only Milo maybe can do one of the abilities.
10:49How does that work?
10:49Yeah, good question.
10:50So I'll tell you on the co-op campaign, so we're giving you a loadout in the mission.
10:54We wanted to handcraft those loadouts from the start.
10:57And then you get these abilities and we wanted to lean into the technology of 2035.
11:01So you see that active camo and it's on a cooldown.
11:04So you can use it.
11:05But the cool thing is in co-op is this mixture of different abilities that you can get is it starts to add some strategy.
11:11So we also have like a deployable tactical shield, like an energy shield, and then you get into some really interesting, I'm going to use active camo and try to stealth.
11:19You use the jump or you use the shield and you get some interesting interplay from it.
11:23But each mission will really give you a different ability.
11:27And we're kind of teaching you how to use these abilities.
11:30And it all leads to endgame, where now you get to choose which abilities you want.
11:34And that really opens up the fun on it.
11:37Of course, Call of Duty is known for the action set pieces and, you know, explosions and everything.
11:42But also some of the best games in the series also had some very quiet moments.
11:46Do you have something like that in the game as well, where maybe we take a little breather from all the action and go a little bit of a different route?
11:54Absolutely. Yeah. And again, I think it goes back to the character journeys.
11:59So they have these moments in between where they're getting pulled away or maybe moving to another location, you know, in the real world or within Avalon,
12:08where they're, again, grappling with what's happening, trying to figure out what's real.
12:13And a lot of that happens through that team dynamic of sort of like trying to share these experiences and process what's going on.
12:21Yeah.
12:22So let's talk a bit about multiplayer, because, I mean, that is a big part of Call of Duty.
12:26A little bit.
12:27To be honest about it.
12:28So what do you think is like the biggest change or like the newest feature in the multiplayer that changes things up a bit?
12:36Oh, well, I'm going to cheat and say a few things.
12:39Please go ahead.
12:39Yeah. But for us, it was really exciting because going to 2035 allowed us to really put in the hands of players is be immersed in that fantasy of this near future,
12:48because now we can put in all the technology, the weapons, right?
12:52The different field upgrades, the equipment to all of these different things that we can put in the player's hands was really exciting.
12:57Really interesting scorestreaks is, again, leaning on the technology.
13:01It really embodies that.
13:02But on top of that, we've got a lot of new systems.
13:05One is the overclocks.
13:06A big part of the game for us is we wanted to personalize players how their play style.
13:11We wanted to give them more options so they can play how they want to play.
13:14And so for the first time, you can customize field upgrades and equipment and scorestreaks.
13:18But how does the overclock system work?
13:20How do I get to that and reach that point?
13:22Yeah. So you unlock it through no more progression and then you get basically an overclock for a piece of equipment or a field upgrade.
13:28And then you can go and change it.
13:30And that was exciting because when we're playtesting, you get into really fun arguments on which overclock are you using and I'm using.
13:36And that's when we know we're mixing something because players are, you know, the devs are discussing which is the best.
13:41And that's exciting.
13:41But on top of that, we've got we've also pushed Omni movement and a lot of the movement.
13:46We now have wall jump.
13:47And part of that we really wanted to refocus the combat.
13:50We have experience in Black Ops 3 with advanced movement, of course, and we wanted to make sure it stayed in frame.
13:56And it was never frustrating for one, the player using it wall jumping, but also on the receiving end of it.
14:02It always had to felt fair.
14:03You never want to get killed and I shouldn't, you know, it should be more of, oh, they got me.
14:08Right. Like I could understand how I got killed.
14:10We've taken a lot of care to do that with refocusing the movement and overall combat, I would say, sort of symphony.
14:16Okay. So we've talked about the overclock system, score streaks.
14:22You're also changing up something with the score streaks.
14:24Can you maybe go a little bit into depth about that, how they are different from Black Ops 6?
14:29Oh, yeah. Well, the overclock spills into that.
14:30So that's a huge part of it, right, is you get the overclocks on it.
14:33But the other part is we're leaning into the technology.
14:35So to name a few is we have this thing called a rhino.
14:39It was in one of the trailers.
14:40You saw this ginormous robot that gets dropped from the sky and you get to deploy it.
14:44And then you get to control this ginormous robot that has a gun attached to its arm.
14:48And it just it's mayhem, right?
14:50That could only be done in 2035 Black Ops 7.
14:54And it just felt right.
14:55The other is the VTOL warship, which you saw, again, coming into the map in this very cinematic way.
15:00That one is bombastic.
15:01You either better get inside or you better have a launcher that's coming for you.
15:07From a technical standpoint, you showcased also that, you know, you have terrain deformation,
15:12especially when it comes to snow.
15:14How do I have to imagine that works?
15:16Is that throughout the whole match?
15:18Or does, you know, sometimes you shoot at a wall and the marks, they sort of disappear after some time.
15:25How does it work with the snow?
15:26Is it the deformation throughout the whole match or only for a particular amount of time?
15:31Yeah, it was important for us coming to this because we were going, we had snow biome.
15:35That was important for us to differentiate the maps.
15:38And I think we showed some of this, but we've got one map that's got the snow and it's high snow.
15:43And it was really important that you could feel like you're immersed in it so you can deform it.
15:47And it happens throughout the match.
15:48And so there's a gameplay element to it, right?
15:50That you can see where people have been.
15:52But it also makes you feel like you're actually in the snow as well, which is awesome.
15:56You've announced that there will be 16 multiplayer maps.
16:00How many of them are really new and how many of them are like old favorites?
16:05Yeah, so there's 13 brand new maps and then there's three classic maps that we just had to bring back.
16:11Because, so since we're following Black Ops 2 in the timeline of the game in this era of 2035,
16:16we really wanted to see which classic maps we wanted to bring back.
16:19But which ones rounded out the portfolio of maps as well.
16:22Each of the original maps leans into all those locations we talked about.
16:26Some are mind bending.
16:27Some are leaving into that future.
16:29And so we wanted to see which of the classics.
16:31So we're bringing back Express.
16:33We're going to be like Raid and Hijacked.
16:35Each with their own different distinct personality.
16:38But now they're all in Japan.
16:39Okay.
16:39They look absolutely amazing.
16:41But then on top of that, we've been playtesting them with wall jumping all the different mechanics.
16:45And so for those that want to explore,
16:47there might be some new ways to play those as well in Black Ops 7.
16:50You said Black Ops 2 and you've mentioned Black Ops 6.
16:54And this is sort of a continuation.
16:56But for the people that maybe haven't played 2 or 6,
16:59is there any kind of intro to get them caught up on everything that has happened?
17:04Or how does it work for someone who's completely new to the series
17:08that they feel, you know, integrated and they feel like they didn't miss out on anything
17:12or that they're not getting all the information?
17:15Yeah, absolutely.
17:15I think one of the best ways we do this, you see some of it in the reveal trailer.
17:20There's a scene with Troy Marshall, who's a returning character from Black Ops 6.
17:25Obviously, we're seeing him much older, further into the future.
17:29And he is setting up David for this mission that he's about to go on.
17:34And this is where we establish a lot of that history.
17:37And then throughout the story, again, it's puzzle pieces to these memories and past experiences.
17:44And we're really hoping that, obviously, the returning Black Ops fans get excited about,
17:50oh, okay, I kind of see where we're going.
17:51And then new players are like, oh, I want to know more about Mike Harper.
17:55I want to know more about David Mason.
17:57And maybe they'll go back, you know, and return to Black Ops 1 and 2.
18:00Yeah, we took really great care to make sure that if you don't know anything,
18:04you're going to, you go in and you understand the story, right?
18:07There's no homework required on it.
18:09But if you're a returning fan, like Natalie Sane, you're going to be like,
18:12oh, oh, shit, is that, oh, is that, oh, and then, ah, and then it starts to build out.
18:17So we took really great care.
18:19I think if you know anything about Black Ops, we're finding the right ways to do that.
18:22Yeah.
18:23There's some pretty awesome payoffs.
18:25Saw some sneaky peeks in the trailer.
18:27Alex Mason, some other stuff.
18:28We'll see.
18:29Also, zombie mode, of course, is a big thing.
18:32And something that was seen a little bit was like a top-down view of zombie mode.
18:37Yeah.
18:37Can you tell us about that a little bit, what that is all about?
18:40Yeah, so that is called Dead Ops Arcade.
18:42It's Dead Ops Arcade 4, actually.
18:43We've done this in previous installments.
18:45And, you know, Natalie touched on this as like a big part of the game was this connectivity
18:49is now you and your squad can literally go anywhere.
18:52And it felt like the right time to bring DOA back again.
18:55And the team's actually absolutely bonkers because we have so many different ways to play already
19:00that they were like, why not one more?
19:02Let's just do one more.
19:03And so DOA is a top-down twin-stick shooter.
19:07It's really fun.
19:08It's really casual.
19:08You dive in.
19:09And the beauty of it is you could play DOA.
19:12And then when you're like, you know, Felix, I'm a little tired of that.
19:14Let's go to co-op campaign.
19:15Okay.
19:15I'm tired of that.
19:16Let's go to MP.
19:16Okay, you could do that.
19:17Let's go to endgame.
19:18Okay, we could do that.
19:19That's the beauty of this connected game.
19:21Tell us a bit about the endgame.
19:23Yeah.
19:23Because you're also doing something new where we, after we finish the single-player campaign,
19:28there's like a new style of endgame.
19:31Oh, yeah.
19:31Yeah.
19:32So this is sort of an extension or an epilogue is what we're calling it to the co-op campaign.
19:38Yeah.
19:38So throughout the campaign, again, this linear story, you're going to get an ending, absolutely.
19:43But throughout, you've been gaining this experience.
19:46You've been learning about the gadgets, the equipment.
19:49And now the world is going to open up and you're going to enter into this PVE 32-player experience.
19:56So you're playing with squads of four and you're going in.
19:59You can choose your operator if you'd like.
20:01And the goal is to really survive.
20:04And we've got difficulty zones.
20:06It's not going to be super easy.
20:07No, very hard.
20:08It's very hard.
20:09Yeah, yeah, yeah.
20:10But yeah, this is, we're calling it the final proving ground.
20:13You're putting everything to the test.
20:14And also, we got so excited playing the campaign.
20:17We didn't want to leave yet, you know, and we weren't ready to leave Avalon.
20:21So we wanted to give players this opportunity to continue in that space.
20:26Also, while leveling up their operator.
20:28Yeah.
20:29I mean, you know us.
20:29We're always changing it up.
20:31And co-op campaign was one innovation.
20:33So why not another?
20:34Okay.
20:34One thing you've mentioned, you've mentioned Avalon a lot.
20:37Do I have to imagine this as like a hub in the game or is it a separate level?
20:42No, good question.
20:43Yeah.
20:43So you'll, in the linear co-op campaign, you'll visit Avalon a few times.
20:47But it's a linear mission.
20:48And that's really a taste of it, where you're getting to see what's happened to Avalon.
20:53And then the exciting thing in Endgame is the entire map opens up.
20:56And it's huge.
20:57It's distinct.
20:58There's a lot of different gameplay.
20:59But there's also narrative tied to it as well that you can explore in the map and find as well.
21:03That furthers that story from the campaign in interesting ways.
21:06So also this year, there's a new Battlefield coming out.
21:10And I mean, it's a new Battlefield and a Call of Duty coming out.
21:14Does that in any case worry you that maybe that might smaller the success of Call of Duty or that might impact the success of Call of Duty?
21:24I think for us, we're always focused on our own.
21:27You know, like here at the studio, we've been working on Black Ops 7 for a long time, right?
21:31And for us, it's maintain the vision.
21:33If we're having fun in the studio, then we know that players are going to have fun.
21:37So, you know, the FPS genre is huge.
21:40There's lots of ways to have fun.
21:41We're going to focus on our craft and deliver what we think the fans expect and are going to have tons of fun.
21:46That sounds pretty good.
21:48So when will the game be out?
21:50November 14th.
21:51November 14th.
21:52Where do we go after Black Ops 7?
21:54I can't tell you yet.
21:57Can't tell us yet.
21:58Oh man, you almost died.
21:59We're out of time.
22:00I wish I could.
22:01Oh, we're out of time.
22:03Oh, okay.
22:04Ja, liebe Leute, im November ist es soweit.
22:06Dann kommt das neue Call of Duty auf den Markt.
22:09Call of Duty Black Ops 7.
22:30Thank you very much for being here.
22:32Appreciate that.
22:33We'll be right back.
22:33We'll be right back.
22:33We'll be right back.
22:34We'll be right back.
22:34We'll be right back.
22:35We'll be right back.
22:35We'll be right back.
22:35We'll be right back.
22:35We'll be right back.
22:36We'll be right back.
22:36We'll be right back.
22:36We'll be right back.
22:37We'll be right back.
22:37We'll be right back.
22:38We'll be right back.
22:38We'll be right back.
22:38We'll be right back.
22:39We'll be right back.
22:39We'll be right back.
22:40We'll be right back.
22:40We'll be right back.
22:40We'll be right back.
22:41We'll be right back.
22:41We'll be right back.
22:42We'll be right back.
22:43We'll be right back.
22:44We'll be right back.
22:44Bis zum nächsten Mal.
