Rain finally easing across flooded areas of NSW.
Transcript
00:00Hello with your National Weather Forecast as we have a look at conditions into tomorrow, that's Friday the 22nd of August.
00:06First to the synoptic map, and the main weather feature continues to be this surface trough off the coast of New South Wales, bringing widespread rain and potential flooding.
00:14We will be releasing a dedicated severe weather video update, focusing on that rain and flooding, and that will be available on our social media channels later on Thursday afternoon.
00:23For the rest of Friday though, that rain will gradually clear off the New South Wales coast and ease to showers.
00:28Showers also possible across parts of the Queensland coast.
00:31Further south though, there is a pair of weakening cold fronts moving through the Bight.
00:34That will brush South Australia and Victoria into the afternoon and reach Tasmania later in the evening, but not expecting too much in the way of rainfall out of those two systems.
00:43Out in the west though, there is a developing cloud band over northwestern parts of Western Australia.
00:47We'll see a little bit of rain developing in the afternoon and into the evening, but that will become more widespread across Western Australia as we head into the weekend.
00:55For the rest of Australia though, we are dominated by this high pressure system here.
00:58It is leading to clear conditions all the way from the Nullarbor and up towards the top end of the country.
01:03So now a state-by-state look, starting off with Queensland.
01:06We'll see a few showers in the morning move off the coast with that rain ban, but they will redevelop through the day, mostly south of Rockhampton and east of about Roma.
01:14A few showers also for the Queensland northeast tropical coast.
01:18Otherwise, looking like a drier and also warmer day, particularly across western parts of the state.
01:22Daytime temperatures reaching the mid-20s, even up into the low 30s, and a wee warmer day across the southeast of the state.
01:28Still a few showers about Brisbane with a top of 24 degrees, and up in Cairns a shower or two with a top of 30.
01:33For New South Wales, rain across the coast in the morning.
01:36They will clear off the northern rivers and the mid-north coast before dawn.
01:40For areas south of the Hunter, that rain eases back to showers through the afternoon.
01:44We see a few showers lingering about the coast through there.
01:47And we may also see flooding continuing even after the rain has stopped.
01:51The rest of New South Wales though, looking dry out in the west, warming up as well with maximum temperatures reaching the low 20s, warmer along the coast as well.
01:58In Canberra, a possible shower with a top of 18 degrees.
02:01Sydney, morning rain easing back to showers by the afternoon with a top of 19 degrees.
02:06Now to Victoria.
02:07It will be a dry morning to start, but the cloud will increase from the west as that cold front approaches.
02:11We'll see a few showers developing across the far southwest of the state from the morning.
02:15That will extend to central and eastern districts through the afternoon and evening.
02:18Not big rainfall totals are expected though.
02:20About one to two millimetres about the southwest and less than a millimetre elsewhere, including for Melbourne.
02:25But temperatures will be quite mild for this time of year.
02:27But fresh to strengthen norther winds will mean it will be a little bit cooler than that.
02:31So reaching 21 from Eildura.
02:32Melbourne, a possible shower in the afternoon and evening with a top of 19 degrees.
02:37Now to Tasmania.
02:38We'll see a cloud increasing as that cold front approaches.
02:40Showers becoming more widespread across the north of the state and also across the west as that approaches.
02:46But not expecting big rainfall totals through that either.
02:48Norther winds will freshen through the day.
02:50It will be mild for this time of year reaching 18 degrees in Hobart with a possible shower.
02:5416 up in Launceston.
02:57In South Australia.
02:58Got that cold front brushing the south coast.
03:00Really only a few showers expected across western and southern parts of the Eyre Peninsula.
03:04Those are York Peninsula and Kangaroo Island.
03:06But by the time it reaches Adelaide and the southeast of the state.
03:08Most of that rainfall will have evaporated.
03:10So not expecting any big rainfall totals out of that.
03:12And clearing quite quickly as that high pressure system moves in from the west.
03:16For Adelaide.
03:17A possible shower with a top of 18 degrees.
03:19Mild in the south but warming up across the north and remaining dry through there.
03:23To Western Australia.
03:24Partly cloudy in the southwest.
03:26Possible shower about the coast including around the Perth area.
03:29Otherwise from the afternoon the focus will shift to the northwest of the state.
03:32As this cloud bound with a tropical link starts to push down across the state.
03:36We will see a few showers through the western Pilbara and northern Gascoyne.
03:39But that will become much more widespread and extend down into the gold fields as we head into the weekend.
03:44For Perth.
03:45Possible morning fog about the hills.
03:46And a possible shower later on in the day with a top of 19 degrees.
03:50Finally across northern Australia.
03:51Typical dry season conditions continue.
03:53We are looking at sunny and clear conditions.
03:55Warming up across Alice Springs 28 degrees.
03:57And in Darwin a sunny top of 33.
