Flood-watch areas preparing for return of heavy falls.
Transcript
00:00Hello from the Bureau, this is the National Weather Forecast.
00:03We're really going to hone in on the weather across the country for tomorrow,
00:05which will be Thursday the 7th of August.
00:09And it's going to be mostly dry and fine around Australia.
00:11When we're talking about rainfall, we're really just looking at bits and pieces
00:14of spotty wet weather, with the majority of the country seeing clear skies and sunshine.
00:20There is one area that kind of bucks that trend a little bit.
00:23We could see some slightly heavier falls around the northern coast of New South Wales,
00:27particularly developing during the afternoon hours on Thursday.
00:32It does get a little bit wet from around about Sydney northwards.
00:35As always, let's fly around the states, get a little bit more detail, starting with Queensland.
00:40We do anticipate some cloud to build in the west, with maybe a light spot of rain here or there,
00:45but it will be generally dry across the state.
00:47For the east coast, a little bit of spotty cloud, but plenty of sunshine no matter where you're located.
00:53Temperatures are looking pretty good as well.
00:54Near seasonal, 23 in Brisbane, and that's grading up to about 30 across the Cape York Peninsula.
01:01For New South Wales, we will start to see showers build around the central coast in the morning,
01:05spreading up to the north coast about lunchtime or into the afternoon,
01:09and actually could see some moderately heavy falls across areas north of Sydney.
01:14So we're really looking at the Newcastle coast, the mid-north coast,
01:16and up around the northern rivers district as well.
01:19Maybe 15 to 20 millimetres in some of those places.
01:22There is still some ongoing flooding from last weekend's rain, but that's pushed inland now,
01:28and over those inland areas we're not anticipating much or any rainfall.
01:32Elsewhere across the state, out to the west and south of Sydney, relatively dry,
01:36but there will be some cloud cover overhead, and in Sydney itself,
01:39probably just a few showers without too much rainfall building up across the day.
01:44We've got a cold, probably frosty morning for many in Victoria,
01:48and then that's heading in towards what we'd call a benign winter's day.
01:52It's not a lovely sunny day, it's still quite cloudy, still fairly cool,
01:55but there's no strong wind, there's no significant rainfall.
01:59It is a fairly settled weather afternoon.
02:02Down through Tasmania, cold start here too, probably see some frost in quite a lot of areas first thing in the day.
02:07It will brighten up to a roundabout average in terms of those top temperatures,
02:11Hobart seeing 14, Launceston up to 15 degrees.
02:15Dry through the north and across the east with just a few showers in the west.
02:20There will be a general feeling of cloudiness across parts of South Australia tomorrow,
02:24both up in the far north as well as across the south coast here,
02:27but that cloud doesn't really come packed with much rainfall.
02:30It might bring a few spots of light wet weather across some of these southern districts,
02:34but the majority of areas will not get any rainfall.
02:38If you do get a millimetre or two, then you're probably in the minority there.
02:42Temperatures, still a little bit cool compared to how we ought to be trending at this time of year,
02:46but nothing too dramatic.
02:49And out west, it's almost dry across the entire state on Thursday.
02:52A little bit of rain in the very far interior, particularly through the morning,
02:55and maybe a shower in the Ute Club.
02:57But apart from that, clear skies and sunshine,
03:00and we do start to see those temperatures on the rise across the west coast.
03:03Perth is back above 20 degrees on Thursday, a sunny 21 in the capital.
03:08Geraldton, 24, a little bit breezy,
03:10and as high as 28 around parts of the Gascoyne and Pilbara.
03:15And across the north, we see a bit of cloud,
03:17and maybe some spotty rainfall across the southern districts.
03:19Could affect Uluru, maybe Alice Springs as well.
03:22That rain doesn't really extend too far north,
03:24so Tennant Creek, or anywhere north of Tennant Creek,
03:27not seeing any of that wet weather.
03:28It's just going to be another clear, bright and sunny day.
03:3232 degrees as the maximum forecast for Darwin.
03:35Check out how your weekend's looking with the extended forecast
03:38on the Bureau's website and app.
03:40Thanks for watching, and have a lovely day.
