The Texas House on Wednesday approved redrawn congressional maps that would give Republicans a bigger edge in 2026, muscling through a partisan gerrymander that launched weeks of protests by Democrats and a widening national battle over redistricting.

00:05House Bill 4 is not about representation. It is not about fairness.

00:10It is a desperate, mid-decade power grab, engineered in Washington, executed in Austin,

00:17and paid for by the Texans we are supposed to represent.

00:21Let me be clear. This is Donald Trump's map.

00:27It is clearly and deliberately manufactures five more Republican seats in Congress

00:34because Trump himself knows the voters are rejecting his agenda.

00:39And instead of respecting that rejection, he's changing the rules.

00:44Instead of listening to the people, he's trying to silence them.

00:48And Texas Republicans have been more than willing to help.

00:54The law allows it.

00:56Now, we have just heard a couple of hours from our Democrat opposition.

01:02And everyone that spoke was with the Democrat Party.

01:07I'm standing with Republican members.

01:12And what's wrong with Republicans standing up and Republicans stepping up

01:19and Republicans being honest, which you don't like,

01:25which is Supreme Court says we can use political and partisanship to do congressional redistricting.

01:37We will not agree on this issue.

01:44We will push forward as the votes have been all day long.

01:50The votes today have followed the Supreme Court, which is partisanship preferential.

01:58And yes, we have a congressional plan.

02:03What's the difference to the whole world listening?

02:06Republicans support it.

02:08Democrats do not.

02:11And that's the bottom line.

02:13Nobody knows who's going to win an election.

02:16That's why I disagree with most of your all arguments.

02:20That doesn't mean a Republican or a Democrat are going to win.

02:23You have new criteria that may give people some energy to run and maybe some areas they can do better in.

02:30But it doesn't say who's going to win.

02:32None of us can predict who's going to win an election.
