00:00Is D.C. safer since Trump has brought in the National Guard?
00:03It has a forceful removal of the homeless people by the National Guard.
00:06Has that helped at all in D.C. solving the homeless problem, or is that causing Mary's problem?
00:11Well, it's always our value and approach for people to come inside,
00:18which is why we have invested millions of dollars into our system.
00:24We think that the safest place for our neighbors who are unhoused,
00:30is to be on a pathway to permanent housing.
00:33So in one of our shelters that we've invested a lot in,
00:37and also on this continuum, is bridge housing.
00:42So we continue to use our outreach workers,
00:46the services of the Department of Human Services to get people to come inside,
00:50because we have space.
00:52When we're talking about unhoused folks who are unsheltered or living on the street,
00:56they're obviously the most vulnerable to some of these sweeps that we're seeing.
01:00The federal officers facilitate.
01:03Are there plans to bring any more beds online in the immediate term,
01:08knowing that places like this might not come on until next month?
01:10Oh, we already have.
01:11Let me ask Rachel to talk about that.
01:16Thank you, Mayor.
01:17So we have, and I really want to emphasize the point,
01:20that we have space for anybody who wants to come in.
01:22Since August 8th, we have not turned away anybody from shelter.
01:26We've expanded capacity to meet our demand.
01:29We watch the census daily,
01:32and we have the ability to continue to expand into other sites to meet the capacity.
01:37So nobody's being turned away from shelter.
01:39So we have space.
01:40That's the message.
01:41Please come in.
01:41Yep.
01:42Yep.
