00:00Journey to the West, Chapter 44, The King's Ghost
00:04The man walked into the Tang Monk's room.
00:26Who are you? asked the Tang Monk nervously.
00:31I'm king of the Black Rooster Kingdom, said the man.
00:36My kingdom suffered a horrible drought five years ago.
00:41Crops wouldn't grow and my people were starving.
00:45One day a Taoist arrived in the kingdom.
00:48He said he had great powers and could pray for rain.
00:53Did the Taoist prayers bring rain?
00:55Asked the Tang Monk.
00:57The king nodded.
00:59It rained for days and our crops began to grow.
01:03Wonderful, said the Tang Monk with a smile.
01:06But then his smile faded.
01:09I'm confused. Why do you need my help?
01:13The king took a deep breath.
01:16After the Taoist brought the rain, we became close friends.
01:20One day we were walking when I noticed a strange light coming from my well.
01:26I went to the well and looked in.
01:28Suddenly, I felt someone push me in.
01:33It was the Taoist!
01:35He had made the light with magic so he could trick me.
01:39I fell deep into the water and he sealed the well shut.
01:43Tears came to the king's eyes.
01:49My body is still down there.
01:52I'm just a... ghost.
01:55That's horrible, said the Tang Monk.
01:58Your guards punished the Taoist, right?
02:00The king shook his head.
02:02The Taoist made himself look like me and now everyone thinks he's the real king.
02:10The king paused.
02:11I've been in the land of darkness ever since.
02:16Tonight, a spirit brought me to see you.
02:19He said you can help me.
02:21How can I help you?
02:23Asked the Tang Monk.
02:24I'm just a monk.
02:28Yes, but you're traveling with Sun Wukong, said the king.
02:32Sun Wukong is very powerful.
02:34He can destroy the Taoist.
02:37The Tang Monk hesitated.
02:40Wukong can't charge into the palace and attack the Taoist.
02:44People will think the monkey is evil, attacking a king for no reason.
02:49My son, the prince, can bring all of you into the palace, said the king.
02:54Then Sun Wukong can fight the Taoist in private.
02:59Where can we find the prince?
03:00Asked the monk.
03:02He will be out hunting tomorrow, said the king.
03:06Tell him everything I told you.
03:09But he won't believe us, said the monk.
03:12He thinks that Taoist is his father.
03:15Show him this.
03:16The king held up a jade coin.
03:19This is the one royal treasure I still have.
03:23When my son sees it, he'll know you're telling the truth.
03:26Suddenly, the king looked at the door.
03:28The spirit is calling me.
03:31I must go.
03:32The king vanished.
03:35The Tang Monk called to his companions, who rushed into the room.
03:39The monk told them everything that the king had said.
03:45He showed me a jade coin, said the monk.
03:48He looked around.
03:49I don't know where it is now, though.
03:53It was just a dream, said Wukong.
03:56No, it wasn't a dream, said the monk, still looking around.
04:00He went outside, and the others followed.
04:06There it is.
04:08A jade coin lay on the ground by the door.
04:14The next morning, the prince went out hunting.
04:19He saw a white rabbit and shot an arrow.
04:23He missed, and the rabbit ran.
04:25The prince chased the rabbit as it ran into a monastery.
04:34Inside, the prince saw a monk, a pig, and a purple spirit.
04:39Then the rabbit turned into a monkey.
04:43What's going on here?
04:44cried the prince.
04:46The monk stepped forward.
04:48Don't be scared, prince.
04:50We must tell you something.
04:51Don't be scared, prince.
