00:00Journey to the West, Chapter 99, Squire Koo's Vow
00:05The monster yelled from inside the cave.
00:15We ate the Tang Monk, so you might as well leave.
00:20Oh no!
00:22Bhajay fell to his knees and cried.
00:27Wu Jing wiped tears from his eyes.
00:30Poor master.
00:33Wukong frowned at his companions.
00:35I can't believe you two believe that monster.
00:39He sighed.
00:40Wait here.
00:42The monkey turned into a moth and flew into the cave.
00:47He soon found the Tang Monk tied up in a dark room.
00:52Wukong turned back into himself.
00:55Wukong!
00:56Cried the Tang Monk.
00:58Shhh!
01:00The monkey untied the monk.
01:02We must be quiet!
01:05Wukong recited a spell.
01:10A moment later, the sound of snoring drifted into the room.
01:14My spell put the monster and demons to sleep, said the monkey.
01:22Let's go!
01:26Wukong and the monk came out of the cave.
01:28Bhajay and Wu Jing were thrilled.
01:32Master, we thought you'd been eaten, said Bhajay.
01:36I knew he was fine, said Wukong.
01:39Now I'm going to make sure these villains never bother anyone again.
01:43He pulled out his iron bar.
01:46It grew until it was the size of a very tall tree.
01:53Stand back, said the monkey.
01:55With one swing, Wukong smashed the entire cave.
02:05Rocks exploded and fell on top of one another.
02:08Wukong looked at the rubble and smiled.
02:12Wukong smiled.
02:15Weeks went by, and the travelers arrived in a small town.
02:18Bhajay's stomach growled loudly.
02:23Wukong laughed.
02:24I guess we should look for food.
02:28They saw an old monk walking down a street.
02:33Kind monk, said the Tang monk.
02:35Do you know where we can beg for some food?
02:38We are quite hungry.
02:40The old monk nodded.
02:42Go to Squire Ku's house.
02:44The Squire made a vow to feed 10,000 Buddhist monks.
02:50He will surely give you some food.
02:54He gave the Tang monk directions to the house.
02:57Thank you, said the Tang monk.
03:00The travelers arrived at the Squire's gate,
03:03and a servant let them in.
03:06The Squire's house was very large and fancy.
03:11Squire Ku came outside.
03:13Greetings, he said with a smile.
03:17Please, come inside.
03:19The travelers sat with the Squire in a large room.
03:23A servant brought tea and snacks.
03:26Thank you for inviting us in, Squire, said the Tang monk.
03:30We heard that you made a vow to feed 10,000 monks.
03:34Yes, said the Squire.
03:36I've made plenty of money during my life,
03:39but I want to do good deeds as well.
03:41I hope to be reborn one day as a Bodhisattva or even a Buddha.
03:48Well, Squire, said Bhajai,
03:50today's your lucky day.
03:53I can easily eat as much food as 10,000 monks.
03:57So if you feed me, you'll definitely become a Buddha.
04:01Everybody laughed.
04:02It is my lucky day, said the Squire.
04:08Last night, I checked to see how many monks I've fed.
04:12So far, I've fed 9,996 monks.
04:17I need to feed only four more in order to fulfill my vow.
04:21A smile spread across his face.
04:24And there are four of you.
04:28That evening, Squire Coo held a feast.
04:32Everybody in the town was invited.
04:35The traveler sat with the Squire and his wife, Lady Coo.
04:39Bhajai drooled as he gazed at all of the wonderful food on the table.
04:44Noodles, buns, mushrooms.
04:49I don't know what to eat first.
04:54As they ate, Squire Coo leaned toward the Tang monk.
04:59So, where are you and your companions going?
05:02We're traveling to the western paradise, said the monk.
05:06We're going to fetch the true scriptures from Buddha.
05:08The Squire's eyes lit up.
05:12You are special guests.
05:15I can't let you leave.
