00:00DEA Special Agent in Charge Steve Hoffer, HSI Agent in Charge Adam Parks,
00:08Louisiana Colonel of State Police Robert Hodges,
00:12Louisiana Probation and Parole Director Corey Acosta,
00:16Baton Rouge Mayor President Sid Edwards, East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux,
00:22our Chief T.J. Morse, and East Baton Rouge Parish DA Hiller Moore.
00:28I want to thank all of these partners for what they have done due to their efforts.
00:33Federal grand juries have returned 52 indictments charging 68 defendants with various federal crimes,
00:41including distribution of fentanyl, distribution of meth, possession of firearms by prohibited persons,
00:48who would be those who have prior convictions or who are subject to a domestic violence restraining order.
00:57We've had people charged with using firearms in furtherance of other crimes,
01:02and with assaulting federal officers.
01:08So the first person who's going to talk today is someone I especially want to thank,
01:12who has brought a lot of resources and a lot of energy to our fight against crime at Baton Rouge,
01:19and that's our government. Thank you.
01:24Thank you. Look, I want to begin, first of all, for thanking the President and the White House in Pambonde
01:30for putting U.S. Attorney Allison Travis in an acting role.
01:34I think that that plays a huge part in why we're here today.
01:39I think that the people in the state over 18 months ago said they were sick and tired of being sick and tired about crime.
01:46We took an initiative last year beginning in the state of New Orleans.
01:52In the state, sometimes they think they're a state, in the city of New Orleans, and we instituted a Troop NOLA there,
02:00and we worked with our federal partners at that time to start to work on reducing crime.
02:06Our hope was always that the city of New Orleans operations, in the way that we did it,
02:11would give us a model that we could then replicate around the state of Louisiana.
02:16We would not have been able to do that without the help of our Attorney General, who's here as well.
02:24Along with the Troop NOLA operation and the terrorist attack that occurred in New Orleans,
02:31showed me the ability to bring federal forces to bear with our local and state forces
02:40being able to run very complicated, complex and great crime reduction operations.
02:47This operation today is a result of that.
02:51We have been working behind the scenes with the mayor, with the DA's office, with the sheriff,
02:57with the chief, with BRPD, in order to help reduce crime in Baton Rouge.
03:03We don't need to look any further than the tragedy of the great officer we had to bury this weekend
03:10to say that this city has a problem with crime. Sergeant Caleb Eyesworth, the loss of his life,
03:21unfortunately, is an example about the violence that has been going on for far too long in this city.
03:27I am not going to let his death go in vain. This operation is part of trying to bring and restore
03:40some law and order into this city. Again, I want to thank President Trump, General Bondi, FBI Director
03:49Kash Patel, the White House, the U.S. Attorney General, and Kash have all been briefed on this operation
04:01in full, full support. And again, I think that when you're able to bring those federal resources,
04:09when you're able to tie the FBI in with the state police, with BRPD, with the sheriff's office,
04:15when you see that type with ATF, with the U.S. Marshal's office, I'm telling you, it is literally
04:22historic, the ability of these men and women to be working together in such a coordinated effort.
04:28And when we take bold action, we see these results. And I'm here to tell you that the results of today,
04:38which I know that both the FBI and ATF and Hill are going to go into a little more
04:45detail about. But the results of today's operation is not the end. This is important for the people of
04:54the city of Baton Rouge to understand. This is just the beginning. We will bring whatever resources
05:00necessary to this city and continue to work with our federal partners in order to stem the violence
05:09that's been going on for far too long. This operation resulted
05:18in a reduction of violent gang activity and included the rest of over 106 arrests, seizure of over 100
05:30firearms, 32 machine gun conversion devices, almost a quarter of a million dollars in cash seized,
05:39693 grams of fentanyl seized, over 6,200 ounces of marijuana, 41 ounces of synthetic mojo seized, 39,
05:52over 3,900 grams of cocaine seized, heroin, methamphetamines. I mean, the list goes on and on.
05:59These are deadly drugs that are impacting this city. We, both Liz and I,
06:09for over eight years now, have been serious about doing something about the opioid epidemic that has
06:17gripped this nation. And this list of drugs fits exactly that. We bury far too many young people
06:26as a result of these drugs. And the pushing of those drugs, we bury far too many people because of the
06:34violence that those drugs lead to. And so again, I literally want to thank
06:43the U.S. Attorney's Office, the FBI,
06:46U.S. DOJ, the U.S. Marshal's Office, the Louisiana State Police,
06:54the Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office, the Baton Rouge Police Department, and everyone that has been involved
07:02in this operation. These men and women who have engaged in this operation have done so
07:12in order to stand on that thin blue line to protect this community from those that seek
07:18to do it harm. And so today, again, marks the beginning, not the end, of a constant operation
07:27that will continue until we see a...
