Speaking to reporters at Washington, D.C.'s Union Station, Vice President JD Vance took a question about crime statistics.
Transcript
00:00Were crime statistics manipulated by the D.C. police?
00:03Well, I think the crime statistics all over our country were massively underreported
00:07because a lot of people would pick up the phone, they'd call somebody,
00:10they'd try to get help, and nobody would show up.
00:12If you look at wait times at 911 response times all across our country,
00:16but certainly in Washington, D.C., they were way too long.
00:19And that wasn't because of the D.C. police.
00:21That was because there was too much crime and too few law enforcement agents
00:25on the street to bring order and decency to this city.
00:28You talk to these guys.
00:31I talked to three police officers earlier.
00:33I've talked to the National Guard.
00:35They are so happy that they've been empowered to do their job,
00:38which is to make American streets safe for American citizens.
00:42And I think that empowerment is going to keep on going until we make America,
00:46and D.C. in particular, a safe place again.
00:48What evidence do you have that the D.O.J. has?
00:51Are you going to be releasing it?
00:53I'm sorry?
00:54Are you going to be releasing evidence of this?
00:56Of what?
00:56The D.C. has a terrible crime problem.
00:59You just got to look around.
01:00Obviously, D.C. has a terrible crime problem.
01:03The Department of Justice statistics back it up.
01:05The FBI statistics back it up.
01:07Just talk to a resident of this city, this beautiful, great American city.
01:12Don't they deserve?
01:14We talk about human rights.
01:15We hear these people outside screaming, free D.C.
01:18Let's free D.C. from lawlessness.
01:20Let's free Washington, D.C. from one of the highest murder rates in the entire world.
01:25Let's free Washington, D.C. so that young families can walk around and feel safe and secure.
01:30That's what we're trying to free D.C. from.
01:32And as Stephen said, it's kind of bizarre that we have a bunch of old, primarily white people,
01:38who are out there protesting the policies that keep people safe when they've never felt danger in their entire lives.
