Speaking to CNN on Tuesday, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) called on the DOJ to release the full versions of the Epstein Files.
Transcript
00:00The Epstein records, which I want to ask you about because you sit on House Oversight,
00:04the committee chairman, Republican James Comer, says that DOJ is going to start turning over
00:09Epstein records on Friday, that they're going to be made public after some redactions.
00:15Have you been given a time frame on when the public is going to get to see those?
00:19No, I have not. Obviously, we are currently out of session. I did show up for the deposition
00:23on yesterday. I personally believe once we're in, he will have some conversations with our
00:29ranking member, and we will see what it is that they're proposing. But we're going to do everything
00:34that we can to make sure that there's some real transparency. Everything about this particular
00:39administration has been less than transparent. When we think about the way that they've tried to
00:43pass the most horrible iteration of their bills, they've tried to do that when people were sleeping.
00:47And right now, they have tried to brush this under the rug while they are distracting and destroying
00:52in our country. So I am pushing for what the American people have asked for, which they are
00:58asking for transparency because they want to know who these child rapists are.
01:02Let's talk about transparency because you posted on X yesterday, quote,
01:07DOJ owes us the Epstein files beginning tomorrow. All of them, client list included, no delays,
01:14no redactions, no excuses. Anything less is a cover up. So a whole congressional committee
01:21and the staffers needed to process the material should be entrusted with child sexual abuse material.
01:28unredacted names, unredacted when, I mean, no offense, Congresswoman, Congress isn't exactly
01:33known for its discretion when there are political points that are there to be scored. Is that what
01:39you're calling for? I'm calling for us to get everything over to us and any redaction.
01:46Unredacted. Oh, absolutely.
01:47Absolutely. So all of those names available for all of you to see and for staffers who would
01:53process the information to see? Unfortunately, we have had people that have elected people that
01:58are not trustworthy. But at the end of the day, they were duly elected. So yeah, I think that it
02:03is terrible. But Congress is supposed to be a place that can be trusted with these types,
02:09this type of information. It is why we have this power. And ultimately, we need to, again,
02:14hold people accountable. What do you say to victims' concerns, though? That is a lot of
02:18information being widely disseminated. As you know, I practice criminal law. So for me,
02:24I don't think that we need to release the names out to the public of these victims. But when it comes
02:29down to it, the DOJ needs to give it to us. Now, if there is a transgression that takes place,
02:36then I think that we need to hold those staffers and or those members that end up engaging in that
02:42transgression. Because you cannot be entrusted to do what's right and then violate that very trust
02:48and then say, oh, oh, well. So no, we're going to have to hold people accountable if for some reason
02:53they violate their trust. But I do think that it is important that we get everything unredacted,
02:59because the problem is I don't trust this DOJ whatsoever. We know that we have an attorney
03:04general that seemingly has sworn an oath to the man in the White House instead of swearing an oath
03:09to the Constitution. And so I don't know what it is that you are trying to delete if I can't see
03:14what's deleted. And so no, we need the full unredacted versions turned over to us.
