The writing of West Sussex author Victor Kloss lives on with the print publication of his first book nearly ten years after his death.

00:00Good afternoon. My name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Lovely to speak to Darren Kloss and to Tara Kloss about a remarkable book which is being published commercially 11 years after his first published, self-published, and it's the work of the late Victor Kloss. Now, Victor was your husband, Tara.
00:23Yes.
00:24About his writing. He lived for most of his life in West Sussex in East Grinstead and was clearly an avid writer who wrote with considerable success.
00:34Yes. Well, it was a long time coming. He used to write in the evenings. He was a web developer during the day and he uses evenings and weekends to write.
00:46Right. And when we first got married, he had written the first few chapters and rewritten them probably 100 times.
00:53Yeah.
00:53And I just really dismissed it as a hobby. But eventually he took the plunge and self-published and it really gained a lot of traction with readers.
01:03And it became a super successful series stretching to six volumes. Sadly, you didn't live to finish the final one, but you published it. And now you are commercially publishing. Darren, what would your brother make of the fact that the book is clearly living on and you aim to republish the other ones as well?
01:23Yeah. Yeah. I think he'd really have a lot of pride in what he's created. He was a very creative person. So to involve so many people in his adventures, you know, very satisfying. And there's no question he'd be very happy that his wife and daughter get to experience this as a legacy from him, I would say.
01:48Yeah. And Darren, you were a key part of those novels first time, weren't you? You were reading the chapters almost as he was writing them with the first one.
01:58Yeah, it was an amazing experience, really. We were very close as brothers. So it was something very enjoyable to do. And I'm glad I could help him with it. And then to see the success as a result. Fantastic.
02:15Fantastic. Yeah. And talking fantastic, it's a fantastic world, isn't it, Tara? Tell me about the world that your husband created in the books.
02:24It's a magical adventure series. It's a very fast paced series. So if you have young children and you want to keep them reading, they will definitely be turning the pages. It's hard to put down.
02:37And it's got a very unique spin on the whole world of magical fantasy. The idea being that anyone can use magic. You don't have to be a magical creature. And I think that would really resonate with children.
02:53It's clearly going to find an audience. Well, congratulations on the publication and all the work behind it. And really love to speak to you both. Thank you.
