A few showers across Shetland but for most a dry and bright end to the day and a dry night ahead with clear spells. Some cloud moving in across the Central Belt, southern Scotland and the far north of England, as well as some patchy cloud for Northern Ireland and eastern England. Staying mild for most but chilly across sheltered areas of Scotland, and a brisk breeze affecting the north and east of Scotland and eastern parts of England. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the evening of 20/08/2025. 00:00Hello there, welcome to your Wednesday evening weather update from the Met Office.
00:05High pressure brings settled conditions through the next few days and into the weekend.
00:11It feels rather cool by night and certainly on this eastern side yet again on Thursday
00:15with an onshore breeze which will be brisk at times.
00:19But into the weekend we lose that onshore component and we gain some warmth across eastern
00:25counties and certainly generally speaking for the weekend temperatures will be slightly
00:28higher than what we've seen today.
00:31Winds remain fairly light we are chasing clouds in fact on Saturday there's a chance of one
00:35or two showers towards the west.
00:39Into Sunday not a lot of change yet again it's a mix of clouds as well as some sunny spells
00:43coming through.
00:44For the time being that brisk breeze continues across the north as well as the east of Scotland
00:50as well as England.
00:51Watch out for some showers across Shetland clipping Orkney.
00:54Elsewhere it's a dry night.
00:56The cloud rolling in though across the central belt of Scotland towards more southern areas
01:00in the far north of England.
01:02We could see patches of cloud elsewhere across eastern counties as well as Northern Ireland
01:06in the north there seeing more on the way of clouds keeping temperatures around 12 degrees
01:09Celsius.
01:10But in the glens of Scotland temperatures dipping down to mid single figures if not a little bit
01:14lower than that.
01:15So it's a chilly start to the day come Thursday morning.
01:18But for most it will be bright and dry with some sunshine.
01:22Notice this stubborn area of cloud across the central out southern parts of Scotland and
01:26over the southern uplands expect one or two spots of drizzle where the clouds thick enough.
01:30At the same time the cloud will overturn across eastern counties but along the coast itself
01:34particularly for England it's going to feel a bit cool with that breeze coming in from
01:39the north sea.
01:40But help with some sunshine not too bad and pleasantly warm elsewhere with some sunny spells.
01:45The cloud comes and goes across Northern Ireland but bright at times and some sunshine
01:49across central parts of Scotland.
01:51Here are your temperatures through tomorrow afternoon 21 for Northern Ireland 19 across
01:57the central belt of Scotland for England and Wales 19 in the north 22 or 23 further
02:02south and southeast.
02:04Now through Thursday evening and overnight yet again there will be some clearer skies.
02:09Notice more cloud just lurking across the north and the northwest of Scotland and
02:12a little more cloud just drifts across the sky across England and Wales.
02:16So yet again on Friday there will be a mix of sunshine and cloud it could build through
02:20the middle part of the day.
02:22A small chance of a fleeting very light shower most places dry.
02:26A lighter breeze across the eastern side of England as well as Scotland and with that sunshine
02:31temperatures probably 19 to 24 degrees Celsius.
02:35But through the weekend temperatures will be slightly higher certainly for the towns and cities
02:39creeping into the low 20s helped with some brighter skies.
02:44High pressure will remain in charge and in fact through Friday night again a little bit dampness
02:50in the air across the western side of Scotland.
02:53This is a very weak system here bringing more cloud and it could run down towards Wales through
02:59Saturday morning where it could be a bit of a cloudier start.
03:02It will break out into showers through the afternoon.
03:05There will be scattered many areas yet again will have a dry day with broken cloud and some sunshine.
03:10But one or two showers could crop up across the highlands of Scotland.
03:14Here's your outlook then through Saturday afternoon.
03:16And those temperatures 20 to 21 degrees Celsius, 24 towards the south east.
03:21A similar situation into Sunday.
03:23I'll see you later.
03:24I'll see you later.
