A cloudy start for much of England and Wales, with brighter spells for southern and western fringes and much of Scotland, and cloud breaking across Northern Ireland. The cloud producing the odd spot of light rain or drizzle across central and southern areas of England and Wales, but tending to break up through the day with most places seeing some sunshine. A mild start for most, but chilly across sheltered inland areas of Scotland. - This is the Met Office UK Weather forecast for the morning of 20/08/2025. 00:00Hello there and a very good morning to you on this Wednesday morning where I can promise
00:05you a little more sunshine in the mix but still a cool breeze coming down the eastern
00:09side and a bit of a cool start across Scotland. Here's your bigger picture, this is the cold
00:14front which will deliver more clouds across southern areas through the first part of the
00:18day. High pressure though building from the south so a settled day for most, mostly dry
00:23as well with some sunnier breaks coming through but notice cooler air just lurking towards
00:28the North Sea and that's a reason why it'll feel a little fresh along the eastern side
00:33through Wednesday as well as Thursday. But elsewhere, yes we are chasing clouds a little bit through
00:38the latter part of the week but there will be some sunshine around. In fact that's the
00:42case through this morning. Brighter skies across many areas, still that strong wind for Shetland,
00:47Aberdeenshire borders down across that east coast. The cloud will break across Northern
00:52Ireland as well with some sunshine and brighter breaks just emerging across the northwest of
00:58England. Now we are seeing more clouds across central and southern parts of England and Wales
01:03even with the odd spot or two of rain. This is that cold front which will gradually sink
01:08southwards as the cloud erodes on its northern edge through the morning. So it's an improving
01:14picture for the skies across many areas. Blue sky coming through as we head through the morning
01:19into the afternoon as that cloud slowly breaks up. So a fine afternoon for many. But notice the strength
01:26of the wind along this eastern side here as well as the far north east of Scotland. Inland though,
01:31a lighter breeze helping temperatures up to 19 or 20 across Scotland and Northern Ireland, 22 to 24
01:37across England and Wales. Probably the mid to high teens along this eastern side. So that's the picture
01:44through this afternoon. Through this evening, pleasant for many. Again, some late sunshine to
01:49end the day. Still a little cloud coming and going across much of central and eastern areas of England
01:55as well as the north east of Scotland. Clearer skies inland and that means a colder night. In fact,
02:01through the early hours of the morning in rural spots, we'll see temperatures dip down to mid-single
02:06figures. A bit of a chilly start to the day come Thursday morning. But yes, again, it'll be a mix of that
02:11sunshine and the cloud. The cloud could be a bit stubborn in places southern Scotland and the far
02:16north of England. But breaking up as we head through the morning into the afternoon across many areas.
02:20So yes, again, that mix just continuing through Thursday as temperatures arrive around 21 in the
02:27north, 21 to 23 further south. And the wind yet again will be a feature of the weather across the
02:34eastern side of England and the north east of Scotland. Into Friday, things will be slightly
02:40different. We'll see more clouds arrive across northern and western areas. And with that,
02:45the chance of one or two showery bursts never really amounting to very much in shelter towards
02:50the south. Some sunny breaks coming through and there could be some sunshine further north as well.
02:54I'll see you later. Have a lovely day.
