00:00Whatever, so every time you should remember that active rook in the endgame offers you a good opportunity, a good chance to either save the game, or if you are on the strong side, to win the game.
00:19There's an important modification of the pawn's endgames, you may call it, a queen versus pawn.
00:24Sometimes it happens, you promote first, but then there's one pawn on the second rank or the seventh rank, and it's important to remember that there's certain rules.
00:35So if we have a queen somewhere, our king is somewhere, and black has a king and a pawn.
00:45So, pawn on d2, it's easy. So I'm sure you know how to win, you pin it, you give a check, you force the king here, and then you make sure a king goes in front of the pawn, and then you start bringing your king.
01:02No matter how far the king, you can always have the same maneuver.
01:04That works if the pawn is on b2, the knight pawn.
01:10Same maneuver.
01:12The trick is, what happens if we have rook pawn or bishop pawn?
01:17So with rook pawn, it's really tough, because if you do the same thing, then king goes on a1, and it's a stalemate.
01:24And if your king is far away, you cannot win.
01:29The only way to win against this pawn, if your king is relatively close, that's important to remember, say on d5.
01:37And then you give a check, check, b1, and now you rush with your king.
01:45Back, black promotes a queen, but after king b3.
01:49Simple, but quite attractive.
