00:06.
00:24Sugar Nunez is one of Navarrete's biggest fans and
00:28never imagined he'd be standing across from him, but says,
00:31God does things for a reason, and now, quote,
00:34I must take him out.
00:36Navarrete defending his title for a fifth time.
00:38His name already whispered among Mexican legends,
00:41because this is the biggest fight of his life,
00:43and says, I will not lose.
00:45Champion versus champion.
00:47Mexico versus Mexico.
00:49Vamos!
00:52I think Nunez is going to have to survive an early storm here.
00:56Navarrete can be a fast starter.
00:58He throws punches from all angles.
01:00He is going to show Nunez some looks that he has never seen before.
01:04How important are the early rounds here, Sergio?
01:07Well, when it comes to Mexican fighters, you know,
01:08their engine gets going the later the fight goes.
01:11But whenever you're dealing with two power punchers,
01:13you need to get respect first.
01:14So both these guys have knockout power.
01:17So whoever lands first,
01:18I want to see how they're going to take that punch.
01:20Navarrete, one inch taller, four inches longer,
01:23but looks much bigger in there right now.
01:26Yeah, he looks a lot bigger.
01:27We know that he's longer.
01:28We know that he has more championship experience.
01:30But right now, it's Nunez on the back foot boxing.
01:33And this is what I've seen with Sugar Nunez.
01:35He is agile enough and fleet-footed enough
01:38to actually box on the back foot when he needs to.
01:41You know, two things on the weight for this fight.
01:45Navarrete used a nutritionist.
01:47Sugar Nunez coming off the corner.
01:51Who's going to land the first big consequential punch?
01:54Navarrete used nutritionist for the first time
01:56to get down to 130.
01:57And his team says he feels great coming into this fight.
02:00And for Sugar Nunez, he is no longer beholden
02:03to that IBF rehydration clause.
02:05He has been operating in the IBF system.
02:08This is a unification fight.
02:10There is no rehydration clause for this fight.
02:12And Sergio, I talked to you about this earlier.
02:14Nunez loves Navarrete.
02:16Says he's watched all of his fights.
02:17Is it going to be a little strange for him?
02:19Is he a little starstruck early on?
02:21No, I think it's game plan.
02:23I think the respect is there.
02:25And that's the reason we see Sugar Nunez boxing on the back foot.
02:28And I've seen signs of this.
02:30I mean, we know that he's a power puncher,
02:31but he also lied on his feet.
02:33Navarrete, on the other hand, he's flat-footed in one gear.
02:36What he lacks in technique and speed,
02:38he makes for in toughness and grit.
02:40I think counter shots are going to be Sugar Nunez's best friend.
02:43You see the shots from Navarrete.
02:45They're so wide, he's so unorthodox.
02:48If Nunez keeps it tight, if he times him,
02:50there are going to be opportunities.
02:52Straight punches usually win fights.
02:56I like this game plan by Nunez.
02:58You know, you can start boxing, moving laterally,
03:01make Navarrete come chase you, run him into some shots.
03:05We asked Navarrete, was he going to try and stick and move,
03:08or would he be right there in front of Nunez?
03:10He says, look, I'm not Shakur Stevenson.
03:12I can't fight that way.
03:14No way, not that many people have that ability,
03:16but what Nunez does have is intelligence.
03:19I needed to see this from the Mexican.
03:21I need to see that he has more than just grit and power
03:24and willing to engage in war.
03:26This is the way he beat a tough Mexican,
03:28and that's changing your game plan, having different levels.
03:43got to be ready, pushing the pace in round one.
03:45.
03:45.
03:46.
03:46.
03:46.
03:46.
03:46.
03:46.
03:46.
03:47.
03:50.
03:52.
03:52,
03:52.
03:55.
03:58You can take the ball to the ball.
04:00You can take the ball to the ball.
04:01You can take the ball a little bit more distance.
04:03You can take the ball to the ball before you enter.
04:06You want to wait, you want to go.
04:09You want to go.
04:10Yes, that's good.
04:11Let's go.
04:15You want to go.
04:23Yes, yes.
04:28I need you to maintain your distance.
04:33Start getting down on your shots.
04:36You got to sneak in that right hand.
04:38Throw the jab, a short jab, and sneak in that right hand.
04:41You know, that's a really interesting dynamic
04:43between Navarrete and his corner.
04:45Usually, it's the trainer giving instructions.
04:48That was a conversation that Navarrete had with his coach.
04:53And it was over distance.
04:54You know, he needs to close the distance.
04:56They told Navarrete they can't have Nunez having that mid-range
05:00and using the entire ring.
05:01You got to really close that distance, start aiming at the body.
05:07Ooh, good shot there by Navarrete.
05:09Overhand right.
05:11Nunez's only loss came very early in his career.
05:15Eight years ago in Cancun against Hiram Gallardo.
05:18Since then, he's looked fantastic.
05:2030 total wins, 28 coming by knockout.
05:23That's a 93% KO ratio.
05:26Yeah, they asked him about that loss to Gallardo.
05:28He said what he took away from that fight
05:30is to never leave a result in the hands of the judges.
05:33And I think they were too tough on him with the point deductions.
05:37I thought he still won that fight.
05:40Well, I just can't get over how much smaller Nunez looks.
05:44Navarrete's a giant in there.
05:45Probably closer to 160 pounds right now than he is to 130.
05:49Well, he usually rehydrates anywhere from 10 to 15 pounds
05:52above this 130 pound limit.
05:54But look, Nunez, he's a pretty strong guy himself.
05:57A little more compact than Navarrete,
05:59but a lot of muscle on that frame.
06:02And still moving, using the entire ring.
06:04And so far, this is in Mexican style.
06:07The fans might not like it, but it's gonna work for Nunez.
06:11I mean, this is soon gonna turn into a war.
06:12But if he can bank some rounds,
06:14not give Navarrete anything and land early,
06:17then maybe you could frustrate him late.
06:19Delay the inevitable.
06:21Delay the war.
06:24Continuing to circle is Eduardo Nunez.
06:32His two distance wins have come in both of his world title fights.
06:41Navarrete sticking that jab.
06:44It's a long, strong jab.
06:47And he does something that's very unorthodox.
06:49He throws wide uppercuts from far.
06:53Navarrete gets away with that because he has a long reach.
07:01Navarrete has been 10 or more rounds in about on 11 different occasions.
07:06Nunez only twice.
07:11If he can get some body shots in early on the aggressive Navarrete, that's gonna pay out later.
07:18Whether they're jabs or their hooks.
07:23Nunez stopping the movement momentarily to throw a few punches.
07:26And now going backwards again.
07:31See, Navarrete doesn't have fast hands and he's not quick with his feet.
07:35But once he does break that range and that distance, then that's when he gets dangerous.
07:39That's the reason Nunez is moving laterally so much this round.
07:45Good left from Navarrete.
07:48And you talk about Nunez maybe banking around, Sergio.
07:51I think the first two went to Navarrete.
07:55Listen, that's the thing about moving so much.
07:58How do you feel?
08:01Now I'm good.
08:06Listen, he tried to land that uppercut right here, all right?
08:08So you gotta be careful.
08:09Watch that left uppercut.
08:16Look, you're seeing everything coming, all right?
08:20Look, you can move to his left and counter him from there.
08:25You need to take a step to the right and attack him from there.
08:31Great advice there by the corner of Nunez.
08:33They want to get an angle on Navarrete, which is something that he's going to have the position to do
08:39that.
08:39He's going to have the ability to get that range and get that flank, that angle on Navarrete.
08:46Yeah, Eduardo Montiel, the head trainer for Sugar Nunez, the brother of Fernando Montiel,
08:53the former three-division world champion.
08:55And the Montiel family has been incredibly influential in the boxing career of Sugar Nunez.
09:00I mentioned the gym that he walked into in Mexico back when he was 13 years old.
09:04That was the gym owned by the Montiels.
09:10Nunez, a rare foray forward, trying to push Navarrete back.
09:16Did you expect this much movement from Nunez?
09:18No, I did not.
09:19But I did expect him to respect the power of Navarrete, but I don't expect him to move this much
09:25right now.
09:26Who'd you get the first two rounds to, Chris?
09:28Nice left hand there from Nunez.
09:30Yeah, good counter shot from Nunez.
09:31I've got a 2018, though, in favor of Emmanuel Navarrete.
09:34Not a lot of action in the first couple of rounds.
09:37I thought Navarrete squeaked out the second round on the power of that last ten-second finish,
09:41but he's just doing a little bit more than Nunez.
09:44For most of this fight, it's been a lot of movement and not enough punch output from Sugar Nunez.
09:49And a rare foot faint by Emmanuel Navarrete right there, and Nunez fell for it.
09:53He bent. We never see that kind of athleticism from Navarrete, but I would like to see more of that.
10:00And you see those close inside body shots that Nunez is throwing any chance he gets.
10:05I think Nunez is showing a little bit too much respect right now for Navarrete.
10:13Well, Sergio, you talked about when you fought your hero early in your career that it was a very different
10:18experience.
10:19Yeah, when you're across 20 feet away from someone like Shane Mosey,
10:23then you finally realize, like, wow, I'm about to go to war and fight with a legend.
10:27That's a similar experience that Sugar Nunez is going through,
10:31and maybe that's the reason he's moving a little bit too much and not giving the fight to Navarrete just
10:36yet.
10:41Now Varete continues to follow Nunez around the ring.
10:47And we've seen in judging decisions in the past, it's hard to win rounds, close rounds at least.
10:52When you're fighting off the back foot, the other guy's walking you down.
10:55Yeah, not unless you're throwing quality counter shots.
10:59A pretty good counter shot to the body right there from Sugar Nunez, but he's got to do more of
11:02that.
11:02When Navarrete comes in, gives him openings, he's got to counter.
11:05And Nunez needs to start jabbing.
11:07You know, whenever you're going backwards and moving too much,
11:09but if you're not punching or trying to counter punch, then you're not doing enough to be winning rounds.
11:14I mean, neither of these guys are throwing many punches, so whoever's dictating with the jab is going to get
11:19credit.
11:22This is a fascinating strategy from Nunez.
11:25I mean, we've seen him fight on the back foot before.
11:28He fought his last fight against Christopher Diaz.
11:30Good right hand there from Navarrete.
11:31But I don't think we've seen him move at this level.
11:34Upstairs and downstairs for Navarrete as Nunez tries to fight off the ropes.
11:38He just seems a little intimidated right now.
11:42Look, these are the exchanges.
11:43A good uppercut.
11:45And that buzz, Sugar Nunez.
11:47That's the best punch, the favorite punch by El Baquero.
11:50He caught him clean.
12:03You caught him already.
12:07How do you feel?
12:08I'm good.
12:13Give me the Vaseline.
12:28And if you've watched Emmanuel Navarrete fights, you know his best punch is that wild left hook.
12:34I mean, this is a punch that you're not teaching in both in gyms, but it lands cleanly because of
12:40those long arms from Navarrete.
12:42So what he lacks in speed, he makes up the timing and those long arms, and Nunez can't be getting
12:49caught with uppercuts like that this early.
12:51Sergio, there is literally nothing that you would train your fighters to do like Emmanuel Navarrete.
12:56Nothing.
12:57There is nothing.
12:58He is the most unorthodox fighter I think in boxing, at least at the championship level.
13:02He does virtually everything wrong.
13:05I had someone in boxing tell me recently that Navarrete fights like a guy that should have 15 losses.
13:10And there's already, sorry, there's already a cut under the right eye of Sugar Nunez.
13:15But he has popped behind those punches and he stays on you.
13:18He is relentless with the attack.
13:19Hey, it's not pretty.
13:21But he knocks you out.
13:22He knocks you out in LD fashion.
13:24And you're wondering if maybe that big left hand woke Nunez up is gonna force him to fight a little
13:29bit.
13:29And I'll tell you what, Navarrete's been doing this, this clumsy foot pain that I'm not accustomed to seeing, but
13:35every time he does it, Nunez falls for it.
13:38See that?
13:38He does it right there again.
13:40I tell you, I mentioned how respectful these two guys were of each other during this fight
13:44week, but when we pressed Navarrete on Nunez's record, his knockout ratio, he kind of rolled
13:49his eyes a little bit.
13:51Said, I want to be respectful, but he hasn't been knocking out anybody.
13:54He hasn't been knocking out anyone here that's on my level.
14:00But then there were questions also about Navarrete.
14:02Maybe is he on the tail end of his career?
14:04His last couple of performances, Chris, haven't exactly been worldwide.
14:08The beater looking, he has struggled a little bit.
14:10Look, he lost when he moved up in weight to Dennis Baranchik.
14:12No shame there.
14:13And he did not look great against Charlie Suarez.
14:16But this fight so far, he's looking pretty good.
14:19And there's the draw also with Conce Sal.
14:26It's amazing to me that a fighter that lacks speed, like Navarrete, that Nunez is not taking
14:32advantage, countering those long jabs, those long slow jabs of Navarrete.
14:37But that just goes to show you the power and the timing that Navarrete has.
14:41To me, and maybe I'm wrong.
14:43Maybe I'm reading this wrong.
14:44He just looks intimidated like the moment might be a little too big for him.
14:47Or maybe he's not ready for this type of champion that's in front of him.
14:51Good body shot there for Navarrete.
14:52Finally, a good counter left hand from Nunez.
14:56Nunez better start doing something because this fight is getting away from him as far as competition.
15:02Because Navarrete wants to engage.
15:04He wants to make this a physical fight.
15:06Nunez is declining that, but he's not winning these rounds.
15:16Nunez said that he had to fly in sparring partners from Nogales to his training camp in Tucson because he
15:22was knocking everybody out that was local.
15:24So they had to bring in guys from across the border.
15:28But right now, he hasn't done much to threaten Navarrete.
15:33He's just not fighting like the confident fighter that we've seen in some recent fights.
15:39And look, he's fought and knocked out a guy like Shavkat Rakamov.
15:43Christopher Diaz, a veteran fighter.
15:45This just looks like a very different guy.
15:47Another strong flurry by Navarrete to end the round.
15:52Long right hand landed on the side of the head by Navarrete.
16:00In case you haven't heard the news, Oleksandr Usyk is back.
16:08The genius of modern boxing.
16:13What a performance.
16:16What a statement.
16:26Usyk versus Rico Verhoeven in Egypt in front of the pyramids.
16:32He's arguably the greatest kickboxer of all time taking on the best heavyweight of his era.
16:40And Oleksandr Usyk, that's Saturday, May 23rd.
16:42Finally, a job that Todd Brischel is uniquely qualified for.
16:47Yeah, I've called Rico's, I believe, his last 15 kickboxing fights over in Europe.
16:52He is the sensation.
16:53Sells out soccer stadiums there in the Netherlands.
16:56And that country is fired up to see what he can do against Oleksandr Usyk.
17:00A lot of people are fired up to see what Nunez would do to Navarrete.
17:03And so far, it's been a bit of a disappointment.
17:07Well, here we go.
17:08The start of this round.
17:09Now we have Sugar Nunez moving forward.
17:11There clearly was a conversation with him in the corner about how these first four rounds have gone right out
17:16of the gate.
17:17Steps on the gas stops moving forward.
17:19Yeah, Nunez has to be offensive.
17:21He's not a defensive fighter.
17:23He's not a counter puncher.
17:24He needs to turn this into an offensive fight.
17:26Let's see how Chris hasn't scored.
17:27Yeah, I've got it four rounds to none, 40 to 36.
17:30And I don't think any of these rounds are particularly difficult to score.
17:33Last two especially, Emmanuel Navarrete has turned on the gas, landed the cleaner shots.
17:38The power punches, all Navarrete, 40 to 36 on my scorecard.
17:42Nunez fans got excited when they saw Navarrete kind of fall into the ropes, but he just was off balance
17:47after he threw a punch.
17:49They want something to cheer about.
17:51Well, now Nunez is digging to the body now, and he's having some success.
17:54Trying to line up that overhand right over the top.
17:57Now this is the Sugar Nunez we're used to seeing.
17:58Pressing, keeping the fighting close, letting his hands go.
18:01The speed advantage with the hands is on Sugar Nunez tonight.
18:04The speed, the footwork, and the youth is outside of Sugar Nunez.
18:09He better start implementing all of the above.
18:11Nice body shot, followed by a sweeping left hand.
18:23Navarrete said, I really want to hurt him.
18:27I've got to hurt him.
18:28The crowd expects it.
18:29My country wants it.
18:34It's good to see, though, some confidence now from Nunez,
18:38as he's trying to push forward and pressure Navarrete, who's still scoring power punches, including that right hand.
18:44Oh, good shot.
18:45Good uppercut on the inside by Navarrete.
18:50Even now, it's a Mexican ruler.
18:52Even against the ropes now, that there's dangerous.
19:01Good body shot there from Navarrete.
19:03Oh, right on the belt line.
19:06A deep breath there from Nunez, who's trying to give as good as he's getting.
19:12It wasn't intimidation, Todd.
19:15I think Nunez wanted to get off those early rounds to see what he's working with.
19:19He wanted to give up four early rounds.
19:22Well, maybe not four, but look, we're seeing a completely different fighter now on the front foot, backing up.
19:28Navarrete digging down to the body.
19:30I think he's backing up Navarrete, but I still think he's taking more of a punishment in this round.
19:34Yeah, he's losing this round, I'd say.
19:40Navarrete, so many slick tricks in his book.
19:4510 seconds.
20:02How are you?
20:05Pega or no pega?
20:0610 seconds.
20:0710 seconds.
20:27Nunez had Navarrete on the back foot and finally against the ropes, trying to get an offense started.
20:33But Navarrete landed a nice right uppercut on the inside right there.
20:37Right on the solar plexus, and that hurt.
20:40Nunez right there.
20:41That's what had him backing up.
20:42Those are the uppercuts that make Navarrete dangerous on the inside.
20:46Even when Nunez is getting something started with four, five, six straight left hooks.
20:51It's Navarrete with the right uppercut coming right up the middle.
20:55That was the best round for Eduardo Nunez.
20:57Not sure if he won it, though.
21:00We'll see Chris Mannix's scorecard after the next round.
21:04We're in the sixth, scheduled for 12.
21:06If you're a Navarrete fan, you've got to be feeling really good right now.
21:10With a good body shot there from Nunez.
21:12Eduardo got the attention of Navarrete.
21:17I don't think Navarrete liked that left hook to the body.
21:20To me, Sergio, Nunez's path to victory is punching with Navarrete.
21:25Navarrete's only been down one time in his pro careers against Liam Wilson,
21:29and Liam Wilson caught him with a counter shot.
21:32Navarrete was coming in, swung that right hand wild,
21:35and Liam Wilson came back and dropped him with a counter.
21:38That's what Nunez has to be looking for.
21:40He's a good, compact puncher.
21:42He's got to throw some of those shots when Navarrete throws.
21:44Look at Navarrete, the veteran.
21:47He's just so composed in there, Sergio.
21:50Yes, he is, and I think Nunez got the attention of Navarrete to the body.
21:55Continue digging downstairs if you're Sugar Nunez,
21:58because Navarrete takes a big shot upstairs.
22:02And, of course, watch out for the money punch of Navarrete,
22:06which is the uppercuts.
22:09Now, we haven't seen too many uppercuts.
22:11There's one right there.
22:11As I say, we haven't seen too many uppercuts from Navarrete at this point.
22:15Caught Nunez with one coming in, but so far it's been jab straight right hand.
22:19Nunez eating a lot of leather on the way in as he tries to close the distance.
22:26Nunez became IBF World Champion May of 2025 when he traveled to Yokohama, Japan,
22:31and beat Masanori Rikishi by unanimous decision.
22:35Defended his title against Christopher Diaz.
22:46Much better strategy by Sugar Nunez here.
22:48Now finally on the front foot, countering to the body,
22:50but still getting caught with shots on the inside.
22:52But this is the type of fight that he needs to get into.
22:56He's gonna have to absorb some shots just to land body shots like that.
23:01These are good, hard shots by Navarrete.
23:04Yeah.
23:06You can hear the thought. These are clubbing shots.
23:08And you can see the face of Nunez turning tomato red.
23:11Can he handle this abuse for another six rounds?
23:14He's gonna have to if he wants to win this fight.
23:21Wait, when he stays right at the end of that range of Navarrete,
23:25it's a painful position to be in.
23:29I don't know, guys. I don't like the way that Navarrete's reacting to the body shots of Nunez.
23:35I think Nunez is starting to break down Navarrete to the body.
23:38Good moment here for Nunez.
23:45Navarrete with an inside right.
23:46He's content to stand there and bang it out.
23:49When you're dealing with a strong puncher with long arms, you gotta break that distance and swing away on the
23:55body.
24:12The heavyweight clash between rising star Moses Itamwa and Jermaine Franklin,
24:17originally slated for January 24th, will take place March 28th in Manchester, England,
24:23live and exclusively right here on DAZN.
24:29Hey, I need you to go to the stomach. You need to go downstairs.
24:35Hook to the liver.
24:42And finally we see Sugar Nunez putting Navarrete on the back foot and it's starting with a body shot.
24:48Those long arms mean nothing.
24:50Once Nunez breaks that distance, makes it ugly, gets on the inside and just rips away at the ribs of
24:56the Mexican.
24:59Nunez doing more damage to the body, Navarrete doing more damage to the face.
25:07But it's nice to see Nunez is getting back into this fight.
25:13We've reached the halfway point.
25:18Chris Mannix, how do you have it scored?
25:20Yeah, I've got it five rounds to one in favor of Emmanuel Navarrete.
25:24I gave Nunez that last round on the back of some of that body work, especially over the final minute.
25:29But the first five, not that difficult to score.
25:32Better round in the fifth for Sugar Nunez, but he was outlanded by Emmanuel Navarrete,
25:36especially with those power shots.
25:38I think right now Emmanuel Navarrete still in control.
25:41The fan zone, they've got a clean sweep.
25:43I can't disagree with that.
25:44I thought Navarrete landed some great shots in that sixth round.
25:47If you give it to Nunez, it's because he stole it with how he fought in the final 30, 40
25:51seconds.
25:51Well, we're getting to the point where Nunez is going to need a knockdown.
25:55And if he's going to get it, Sergio, it appears it's going to come to the body.
25:58It has to be to the body.
25:59There's no way that you can hurt this man upstairs.
26:02Navarrete takes too good of a shot upstairs.
26:07Whenever you're dealing with fighters with a soft physique, you've got to aim downstairs.
26:11That's what you've got to zero in.
26:13Aim at the stomach in the midsection from a guy like Navarrete.
26:16Navarrete got good power on that jab. Back Nunez up with it.
26:24Nunez has got to exchange. It's as simple as that.
26:27He can't win a fight like this.
26:28Navarrete can pick him apart from the outside.
26:30He's got to push him up against the ropes and just let his hands go.
26:33And that's Navarrete's MO.
26:35I mean, he has a four-inch reach advantage on Nunez.
26:37So the more desperate Nunez, the shorter fighter gets, the more he's going to get lined up for those uppercuts.
26:42Now, I tell you, Sergio, this is a more disciplined fight than I'm used to seeing from Emmanuel Navarrete.
26:47He's still throwing some awkward looking shots.
26:49And that is not the range Nunez wants to be in.
26:52It's a suicide mission.
26:56Even on the back foot, Emmanuel Navarrete is a dangerous puncher.
27:00These are just brutal shots from Navarrete.
27:03Well, we know Nunez has got a chin, I'll tell you that much.
27:08Navarrete having a moment here.
27:09It looks like Nunez is pretty hard for some of these shots.
27:12Well, you know, both of these guys are willing to go out on their shield.
27:17Navarrete's not known as a hooking-type puncher on the inside,
27:21but he's having a lot of success on close-range hooks, left and right,
27:25going around the guard of Nunez.
27:36Nunez told us he didn't enter the ring with a game plan,
27:38said he let his team handle his in-ring strategy.
27:41He does whatever they tell him to do.
27:47You can just see how heavy the hands are at Navarrete.
27:50It's not power that's behind speed.
27:54It's just cinder-block fists that land on opponents.
28:14Breathe deep.
28:17Take a deep breath. How do you feel?
28:29you landed good i like the way you landed there
28:37nice shots these are the punches the hooking type punches that are not accustomed to seeing
28:42from el vaquero he's a straight puncher he's an uppercut puncher then you see a right hand
28:47a right uppercut that buckled the knees of nunez
28:55just good exchanges there by navarete giving up his height but this is a man that always is accustomed
29:01to giving up his height just to land those uppercuts chris you asked navarete yesterday
29:06hey do you feel like you've lost a little bit as you've aged are you not quite the fighter you
29:11once
29:11was and he said listen i'm gonna be honest with you i feel quicker and stronger than i ever have
29:16i'm in my prime right now i know this i would know if i'm slipping and i am not and
29:22he looks
29:22like he's not right now he's put that charlie suarez fight behind him and he's putting on the kind of
29:29fight we saw against oscar valdez in the rematch against isaac dog bay in the rematch not similar
29:35fights but similar dominance for emmanuel navarete nunez needs to zero in on the body of navarete
29:43every time he does land there you can see navarete doesn't like those shots
29:49and i say it all the time whenever you're dealing with these tough iron chin mexicans it's going
29:54downstairs that's gonna hurt them look at the power shots landed in round seven 23 to 13 navarete with
30:01the decisive edge mexicans like navarete iron chins granite chins but there's no granite in the body
30:14for what it's worth the cut that was that is under the right eye of eduardo nunez has slowly stopped
30:29bleeding
30:30oh big uppercut there from navarete what a sneaky beautiful shot and that's navarete's favorite
30:37punches left and right uppercuts very rare for a long long fodder that has the did the height the
30:43reach the power to be on the inside and be so effective with uppercuts and there it is again
30:53boy nunez showing a lot of heart i'll tell you that yeah but he's squaring up and he's
30:58he's making it easier for navarete to land those uppercuts you don't want to square up with a
31:03fighter like navarete there was a right hand that snuck through for nunez finally able to land something
31:09upstairs that's best moment of the fight but navarete clipped him on the ear
31:16awkward combination four straight red hands by nunez but that actually broke the momentum of navarete
31:27doubling and tripling one side one shot is actually working against navarete
31:39and tripling one side one shot is actually working against navarete
31:46navarete backing up as nunez continues to batter the body yeah good shot he didn't get a good left hand
31:52to the liver navarete didn't like that body shot you can see him on the back foot now which is
31:57a rarity for him
32:07let's check in with chris mannix who's with devin haiti well devin it's thought we got a 50 50 fight
32:13coming in but a pretty strong start for navarete what are you seeing yeah navarete he's just showing
32:18that it's his experience he's showing that uh you know he just he's a monster you are the welterweight
32:24champion and a man in demand right now in that division but the man you said you want is ryan
32:30garcia is that the fight you're looking for next yeah i mean it has the storyline it has the bad
32:35blood um it's a unification now and it's a big it's the biggest fight in boxing so uh it's a
32:40perfect
32:40fight to be made and right now is the time what did you think of ryan's performance i thought ryan
32:45did what he was supposed to um i figured he would do that against uh mario barrios mario barrios is
32:50uh
32:50uh yes it was a perfect coating um for ryan you think things will be different with you the second
32:55time around definitely appreciate it thank you
33:03devin haiti ryan garcia to sign me up that's a must
33:13all right good round for nunez in the eighth
33:20but it's been navarrete's fight from start to now no doubt about it
33:26but nunez still hammering away good shot but then he's got to go through this
33:34you hit me i hit you and navarrete hits harder it seems yes it does you can tell anytime
33:41navarrete lands a clean show stiff right
33:44moon is hurt on his feet right now and it was before that right hand
33:49you don't want to get hit cleanly by navarrete and right now his right eye appears to be closed
33:54sergio yeah navarrete's powers way too much
34:02i'd be surprised if nunez can make it the distance
34:05considering the look of that eye and the amount of punishment he's taking
34:09can he handle four more rounds i think nunez is tough enough to get there it's the question if
34:14the referee steps in and sees that eye and thinks it's too problematic for him to continue
34:19nunez is getting hit by heavy right hands right now
34:24chris manix's scorecard through eight let's see who gave that eighth round two he did give it to
34:28nunez and the right eye of nunez is completely shut he can't see a thing
34:44yeah any momentum that sugar nunez built with a pretty solid performance that last round it's gone
34:50navarrete back to dominating this fight they're gonna have to have the doctor take a look at it here in
34:55a
34:57minute but nunez showing you that mexican pride that heart sergio no he's gonna go down swinging but
35:04navarrete doesn't mind knocking you out i mean this is this is a power punching scary
35:10mexican fighter navarrete even on the back foot even when he's not positioned
35:14he's still able to hurt you and keep in mind navarrete was a slight underdog coming into this fight
35:21yeah we've had a couple of situations on this card where it's felt like the more experienced
35:26fighters been a little bit disrespected we saw that with abel ramos against tamir smalls ramos
35:31came up with the win and i was surprised to see that navarrete was the underdog yeah he was coming
35:35off that fight against suarez but it's a guy that's been in some of the some of the top guys
35:40in multiple
35:40weight classes that right eye by sugar nunez is completely closed i love to see navarrete
35:46start throwing left hands left uppercuts and left body shots because nunez can't see those punches coming
36:00when nunez still fighting his heart out giving you everything he's got but navarrete just too good tonight
36:14how do you feel son how do you feel give me give me a towel
36:36hey listen don't be afraid to clinch
37:01oh boy they're putting vaseline on it they're putting the inswell they're trying to do anything
37:06they can but they're gonna have the doctor take a look sergio and you think they're gonna stop it
37:12here i i think it's getting close to the stoppage even the corner of nunez even the corner of nunez
37:24is concerned now
37:28okay all right they're gonna let him continue but will that eye
37:33hold up for the last three rounds we're in the 10th live from arizona it has been the emmanuel navarrete
37:41show here tonight i don't think it's the eye that that he's worried about i think it's his resilience
37:45his punch resistance is going out the window nunez is in trouble 29 power punches landed for emmanuel
37:54navarrete in that ninth round and those numbers are going to continue to climb with nunez really being
37:59unable to see out of that that left eye you can see navarrete targeting it with some of these shots
38:04oh nice
38:05left hand good sportsmanship there from navarrete and he busted that oh boy pouring blood now
38:13this fight is not going to last too much longer that left hand is doing damage on nunez now
38:18referee taking a good look at it man you know whatever cut was on that right eye
38:25navarrete busted it open with one of those hooks
38:30sergio if you're in the corner of nunez at what point do you go man you're just too tough for
38:35your
38:35own good probably right about now mexicans don't know how to quit but sometimes you got to save them
38:41from themselves i mean we expected this to be a bloody war a nice uppercut but this is a one
38:47-sided war
38:47yeah nunez is fighting blind chavez is jumping up out of his broadcaster seat
38:52telling the referee to stop it when the great julio cesar chavez is on his feet asking to stop this
38:59fight we know there's mercy show some mercy here if you're on the team of Eduardo Nunez
39:08navarrete's got to be thinking what is this guy made of i've hit him with everything i've got
39:18and you see the spirit is still there in sugar nunez
39:24nunez has not been able to find a way to break through against emmanuel navarrete
39:34oh man
39:39i hope fans are appreciating this yeah just when you think sugar nunez is gone
39:45navarrete comes right back and you can see the concern of the gran campeon mexicano
39:52he doesn't want to see no more of this mexican spirit and this mexican heart
39:56from sugar nunez his corner has got to stop in between the next round i think if and when the
40:03doctor
40:04takes another look at that cut they're going to see it is in far worse shape than it was three
40:09minutes ago stop this fight guys you can't be getting hit by a puncher four times in a row like
40:15that
40:21he's still grinding away guys this is going to end up here it's going to be an uppercut
40:27it's going to be an uppercut by navarrete it's right open for him
40:29move there is it squared up
40:47hey you got to give it all you got come on son take some breath
40:54you got to lay it all on the line let's go do or die
41:02how do you feel son be honest with me how do you feel
41:09listen you can't give him distance you gotta close that range
41:29look at the look of concern that i think almost everybody in this arena has right now
41:35yeah eddie herring told me that he just told the corner of eduardo nunez to stop the fight
41:41i would imagine the doctor is going to agree these fans they love what they're seeing they love the heart
41:47that's being shown from sugar nunez but sometimes the heart needs to be let go
41:57and that's it emmanuel navarrete is the king of mexico
42:05great stoppage because that man needed saving from himself if the corner wasn't going to do it i'm glad
42:11that the outside the help came in because it was going to get in and ugly so much heart so
42:18much
42:18toughness shown from sugar nunez but was just outclassed tonight by emmanuel navarrete who just showed
42:24that he is still the top guy in the 130 pound division i'll tell you this
42:30eduardo nunez was outclassed tonight but he showed more hearts sergio than just about any fighter i've
42:36ever seen to continue to battle back with one eyes shut landing punches sergio but the amount of power
42:42shots he was eating round after round was incredible what do you expect from a mexican champion he expected
42:49to go down swinging but when your legs won't betray you then someone has to protect you and i'm glad
42:57that
42:57the doctor did that because even that man right there chavez the great julio cesar chavez was on
43:02his feet begging the referee begging for the medics to stop this fight and i'm glad someone did so
43:08emmanuel navarrete improves to 42 and one with 32 knockout or 33 knockouts rather as abuardo nunez
43:17suffers his first defeat in eight years
43:29well sergio it wasn't exactly the fight we thought it would be but if you're a navarrete fan it was
43:36business as usual it was el vaquero you know beating down opponents beating them into submission and
43:43for a proud mexican champion in a unification like sheridan nunez to be beat the way he did
43:49bloodied battered and for the corner and the referee and the medics have to stop this fight
43:55that's as ugly and as pretty as it gets for someone as scary as emmanuel navarrete
44:01well we're expecting another fantastic clash march the 14th as arnold barboza jr takes on kenneth
44:08sims jr in a high stakes crossroads battle between two elite contenders moving up to the 147 pound
44:15welterweight division the stack card also features oscar collazo and gabriella fundora
44:21and of course you can see it right here live on the zone
44:27david diamante makes it official
44:31ladies and gentlemen referee ben rodriguez calls a halted his contest
44:35the official time of the stoppitch one second of round 11 declaring your winner by tko
44:44and now the unified ibf and wbo jr lightweight champion of the world

45:08becomes a unified champion for the first time as he's the wbo and ibf super featherweight champion and
45:16sergio a lot of tantalizing possible matchups coming his way at 31 years of age he still seems to have
45:24plenty left
45:25navarrete deserves another champion now that he's a unified champion bring on oshaki foster foster
45:33wants all that smoke and stylistically he can handle that smoke
45:39so the fans of vaquero emmanuel navarrete will celebrate tonight as he picks up his 40th career
