00:14Cincinnati won the toss.
00:16They will receive.
00:17So Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase and Tee
00:20Higgins and Chase Brown.
00:23They're all going to get after it here
00:25right out of the gate.
00:26So my JP Ryan is back with Charlie
00:28Jones and a man with no competition
00:33during camp will kick it away for the
00:35commanders Matt gay his first year.
00:40With Washington.
00:45This is Jones full head of steam and
00:49across the 40 and a nice start kind of
00:52a line drive kick and a chance for
00:54Jones to do something and he returned
00:56it 30 yards and here comes the two
00:59time pro bowler.
01:00He led the world and everything last
01:01year.
01:02Joe Burrow.
01:04Joe Burrow he got to play last week in
01:06preseason one and for a guy that's been
01:08in the league like he has been and has
01:09been as good as he has.
01:11That's highly unusual but we talked
01:13about it.
01:14They want to get off to a better start
01:15this year after beginning.
01:17He's been 0 and 2 each of the last three
01:20years including 0 and 3 in 24.
01:24Here is Brown he's able to take it to
01:26the 45 and get three.
01:29Give you the offensive lineup and these
01:31are these have been fluid coming into
01:34tonight's game with guys tapping out
01:37some guys moving up pretty normal look
01:40for Cincinnati with the skill position.
01:42And then the offensive line looks like
01:46this with the rookie Dylan Fairchild.
01:48It looks like he fits in the starting
01:50left guard.
01:58First throw is swung out to Brown out
02:01on the edge.
02:02Can't break one tackle but makes a nice
02:05gain of four.
02:07As the tackles made by Quan Martin third
02:10year safety out of Illinois now up
02:12front the big ad Troy is Javon Kinlaw
02:15and they really hope that his big
02:17body can help plug some of the holes
02:20that were there a year ago when teams
02:22really ran the ball well against
02:23Washington.
02:24Yeah that really showed up Joe in the
02:25postseason in the NFC championship
02:29game especially against the Philadelphia
02:32Eagles and then the game before that
02:33against Detroit giving up over 200
02:35yards in each on the ground.
02:38Burrow protected pass is
02:40caught and a sliding grab.
02:42We'll see where they put it down.
02:43Tanner Hudson made that sliding catch
02:46and they've given enough for a first
02:48down.
02:48It was close but a fresh set of downs
02:52and a first down at the 48.
02:56The ball comes loose and so they're
02:57going to
02:58they're going to reverse this call
03:01and it's going to be a three and
03:03out.
03:03You know I was talking about Joe
03:05Burrow and playing last week he was
03:07nine of ten in that preseason game
03:10but by his own admission he said he
03:12was average and in the reason being
03:14that he really did not place the
03:16ball the way that he typically does
03:19and even on that last throw to
03:20Tanner Hudson and open Hudson should
03:23have been a lot easier than it was.
03:24Now Hudson should have caught it but
03:26could have made it a lot easier on
03:28him.
03:28And so because the call was
03:32overturned it's fourth down the
03:33Bengals will go for it.
03:38As they're trying to figure out where
03:39to put the ball down it should be at
03:42the forty nine and fourth and three
03:44and they put it down at the right
03:46and they may have drawn the
04:15commanders offside as Frankie Louvoo
04:18came across.
04:21And if they did it's a first down by
04:23penalty.
04:26Well you see the movement right
04:27there by the defense and he
04:29was on the fraction number four of
04:30the defense the five yard penalty
04:31results the first down.
04:33Yeah really good job there by Joe
04:34Burrow the commanders were showing
04:37an all-out blitz they had no middle
04:39safety and they were going to come
04:41after Burrow and you know he used the
04:43cadence held them up longer than what
04:45they wanted to hold and was able to
04:47get the free set of downs.
04:49Louvoo is a linebacker that kept
04:50jumping across against the Eagles
04:54in the championship game on the
04:57tush push.
05:00Here's a handoff to Chase Brown
05:02bounced off one tackle and takes it
05:04to the 40 a nice gain of six got a
05:06good block from tight end Drew
05:08sample.
05:10Well so they get a new set of downs
05:11and again last week went about as
05:12well as you could have hoped for
05:13for this offense and Joe Burrow
05:16they had two possessions that went
05:18right down the field on each and
05:19scored two touchdowns and for them
05:22to be able to keep this drive
05:23going but I understand why Burrow
05:25wants to play but I wouldn't keep
05:30him in there long that's for sure
05:31the offense and Joe Burrow was not
05:33the problem for this team last
05:34year.
05:36He's getting rid of it quick and
05:38he's got a first down to Chase
05:40and Jamar who was the triple crown
05:43winner and earner in the NFL is good
05:47for 10 in the first down.
05:49Well they're able to be flexible
05:50with Jamar Chase and move him
05:51around and the one thing about it
05:53when you play the Cincinnati Bengals
05:55because of weapons like Jamar Chase
05:57Tee Hickens and what they're able to
05:59do they do not see a lot of man
06:02coverage and it's one of the
06:04reasons why the tight end position
06:05has been effective for them and the
06:07reason why it was so open right
06:09there for Jamar Chase to be able
06:10to just come off the ball and find
06:11the hole in the zone.
06:16Burrow protected Lofted Chase can't
06:20make the catch but a flag and no
06:23egg bin agony who's making the
06:25start for Trey Amos the rookie is
06:29guilty of pass interference and
06:30that'll set up Cincinnati inside the
06:32five.
06:33I'm not sure the first number six
06:35defense ball will be placed by the
06:37foul automatic first down.
06:39I'm not certain that Jamar Chase
06:40ever even really saw the ball until
06:42the last minute didn't see a whole
06:44lot there is.
06:45Well there's the grab.
06:46Absolutely grab it on the right
06:48shoulder and you mentioned it Joe
06:49that it's the knock it's been
06:51agony is getting the start Trey Amos
06:53is the guy who had been getting the
06:55start as a rookie and a guy who
06:57they're very high on him but he's
06:58not playing tonight.
07:07First down and goal quick set up
07:08and incomplete off the hands of the
07:12tight end Tanner Hudson who was
07:15looking for a flag and won't get it
07:17coverage by Will Harris a new
07:20commander.
07:21Good job there by Tanner Hudson as
07:23he comes off the ball and good
07:25ball placement just not able to
07:27secure it all the way but
07:30outstanding job by Joe Burrow
07:32giving him a chance and really
07:34great defense right there getting
07:35his hand on the ball.
07:46And a timeout taken by Washington
07:48before a second down the goal.
07:50First charge timeout Washington
07:51thirty second timeout.
07:53Well let's talk about this a little
07:54bit because obviously it felt like
07:57when Sean McVay came in he changed
08:00the entire league's thinking about
08:02preseason and playing starters in the
08:06preseason.
08:07He doesn't play anybody and he
08:08hasn't and he had success.
08:11Other teams followed suit but now
08:13it feels like more and more teams
08:15are going back to the way it used
08:17to be.
08:18Yeah I agree with that and you know
08:19everything kind of trends certainly
08:21in the NFL and here's a look the
08:23last three years as to how the
08:25Bengals have gotten started and that
08:27means not only has Joe Burrow played
08:29more this preseason and these other
08:32starters but also the way they've
08:33gone about everything.
08:34They've changed practice schedules.
08:35They've trained so many things to
08:37try to be better off.
08:41That's Brown.
08:43It'll be third down and goal and
08:45Ken Law.
08:47The newest Washington commander is
08:49in there to make the stop.
08:51I will also add Joe that you look
08:53at the Bengals schedule this year
08:55and who they're playing.
08:56They open up at Cleveland not an
08:59easy game for them historically
09:02and then Jacksonville looking at
09:04the rest of that schedule if they
09:05don't get off to a good start this
09:06year they're going to have some
09:07real problems.
09:15Third down and goal.
09:16Burrow looked right comes back
09:17pass caught tackle made at the
09:21one and it was the tight end
09:23Sample who made the catch.
09:28And Quan Martin made the stop.
09:31It's fourth and goal.
09:32That's an outstanding job by Quan
09:34Martin the safety because when
09:36Sample comes across it looks
09:38initially like he's going to be
09:40the guy who gets he's going to get
09:42the ball and get across into the
09:44end zone with the angle that he
09:45has all he's got to do is then
09:47move the safety just the slightest
09:49amount.
09:50But Quan Martin comes up and makes
09:52a great open field tackle.
09:53Fourth down and goal.
09:57Brown he's in touchdown Cincinnati.
10:10It wasn't easy got a good block
10:12from left tackle Orlando Brown
10:14Junior.
10:15And it's a nine play touchdown
10:17drive for the Bengals to start
10:19their night initially come up and
10:21contact is made and it was all
10:23Chase Brown right there he's
10:24short and it looked like they
10:26were going to be able to make a
10:27big stop down here on the goal
10:29line and yet Chase Brown just
10:31keeps his legs moving and is
10:32able to punch it across.
10:34Quan Martin almost being the one
10:36again to keep him from scoring
10:38but just great effort there by
10:41Chase Brown.
10:42Well will that be it for Joe
10:46Burrow and company.
10:49We've heard maybe through the
10:51first quarter we'll find out I
10:53think it would be if I was the
10:54coach.
10:55Well you're not.
10:58And it's seven nothing Cincinnati
11:00two first downs by penalty
11:02including that 26 yard pass
11:04interference and Chase Brown
11:07took care of it on fourth and
11:09goal kept the legs churning.
11:11and got it in seven zip Bengals
11:14on top.
11:23Jayden Daniels the 2024 NFL
11:26offensive rookie of the year.
11:29He was phenomenal through for 3,500
11:31yards 25 touchdowns nine picks he
11:34ran for 891 which is a rookie
11:37quarterback record.
11:39There's just simply nothing he
11:42didn't do last year and as the
11:44season went on he got better.
11:47He's got every intangible.
11:48He's got poise.
11:50He's obviously a leader.
11:52I mean it's all there.
11:53Yeah five.
11:54There's no doubt.
11:55And you know there was a time
11:57early in the season the first
11:58couple of weeks he was taking a
11:59lot of hits.
12:00You wondered if he was even going
12:02to be able to survive the year.
12:04And does not miss a game and then
12:06put up one of the most
12:07impressive rookie years for a
12:09quarterback in the history of
12:10the game.
12:14This is Demetrik Felton.
12:18Looking for some room and he got
12:20across the 25 and that's it.
12:23Shaka Hayward made the tackle a
12:2526 yard return.
12:26There are the numbers be more
12:28specific.
12:293,568 pass yards the AP
12:34offensive rookie of the year and
12:35all he has to do is put his toes
12:37on the field and this crowd goes
12:39crazy.
12:40Well and you look at his year and
12:41sit completed 69 percent of his
12:43passes and you know I thought
12:45Cliff Kingsbury did an
12:46outstanding job of bringing him
12:48along and Jay Daniels even
12:50admitted the best thing about
12:51the offseason was the fact that
12:52Cliff Kingsbury came back as
12:54the offensive coordinator and
12:55he didn't have to learn a new
12:56offense.
12:58Here's a handoff to Debo a
13:00long time 49 or nice cut back
13:02and brought down at the 45.
13:07He's been an all pro.
13:09He was traded to the commander
13:10and on that jet sweep gets 19.
13:14Well Kingsbury doesn't wait
13:15waste any time to get him
13:16involved in this offense and
13:19when asked if he was going to
13:21use him the way that San
13:22Francisco did as a running back
13:24not so much as what he said but
13:26obviously he brings versatility
13:28and he's outstanding with the
13:29ball in his hand.
13:31Here's Rodriguez right up the
13:32gut.
13:33Not brought down inside the 20 and
13:35forced down near the 15.
13:36Two big plays to start for the
13:39commanders.
13:48John Bates number 87 and Tyler
13:50Biotis the center they make
13:52outstanding blocks that open up
13:54this hole for Rodriguez and he
13:56hits it.
13:57There's more to talk about with
13:59Rodriguez who's getting a chance
14:01here tonight with regard to their
14:03starter Brian Robinson.
14:04Little jab step by Rodriguez
14:09looking for a block and nothing on
14:11this one got a yard.
14:13The commanders are shopping.
14:15They're starting running back
14:16Brian Robinson.
14:17There is some interest.
14:18He's making a lot of money for a
14:20fourth year player.
14:21It's the end of his rookie deal.
14:23And it seems like without being
14:25official about it.
14:26He's not here tonight.
14:27They're not playing him.
14:28They don't want him to get
14:29injured.
14:30They want him to stay healthy in
14:31case they can find a trade
14:33partner to take him.
14:34Well this is an opportunity for
14:36Chris Rodriguez because when you
14:37look at what's in front of him
14:40those guys are going to be on
14:41this roster.
14:42Daniels tap dancing around and
14:47down into the end zone for a
14:50touchdown.
15:02It may be August 18th but this
15:05crowd is going crazy because
15:07Jaden just reminded of the magic
15:10he has there was a collective
15:13exhale on that Washington
15:14sidelines when he didn't go to
15:16the ground including here in the
15:18booth.
15:20Jaden Daniels showed how he why he
15:22was so effective last year.
15:25But Jordan Battle had a chance at
15:27the safety position to come up
15:29and take a big hit on Daniels and
15:31he just fails to make the play.
15:36Dan Quinn may have to just hide
15:38his helmet.
15:40I think he might.
15:41He wants to play.
15:42How about four play 74 yards all
15:45on the ground including this 14
15:48yard run.
15:49Daniels not going down and maybe
15:51August but who cares.
15:53Touchdown for number five and
15:54we're tied.

16:52after a 15 yard gain.
16:54Let's go back to the touchdown run
16:56by Daniels.
16:57Well they bring a four man rush and
16:58they pick it up nicely.
16:59It opens up Jane Daniels takes it
17:01but here was an issue for this
17:02Bengals defense last year Jordan
17:04battle right there.
17:06He has to make that play.
17:07You got to just take them out.
17:08I mean there's a quarterback who's
17:10running with the football and it
17:11really doesn't matter who it is.
17:12You you're the last line of
17:14defense.
17:15It was an issue for this team last
17:16year tackling.
17:17Tell you how golden is not happy
17:19at all with what he just watched.
17:23Burrow back for more and he hands
17:25to P. Ryan who gets stood up
17:28after getting to the 26.
17:30By the way it was Colson Yankoff
17:33who made the tackle in that hard
17:34hit on the kickoff coverage.
17:36You gain a three here by P. Ryan.
17:38You know when you have these
17:39competitors like Jayden Daniels
17:41and they come into a game and you
17:42know it's preseason but man once
17:44you get on the field and you start
17:45playing you just react and he
17:47sees the goal.
17:48He's going to go get it.
17:50I think his night will be done.
17:51I think Dan Quinn has seen all he
17:53wants to see and that was a nice
17:55drive by that offense to go down
17:56and finish it off with a touchdown.
17:58Burrow just moved Noah fans.
18:08I knew Bengal flag flies.
18:10Yossi Bosch has got a first down
18:12grab.
18:17And this is going to be called on the
18:19offense is the initial.

18:31Who came out of the backfield and

18:34Taj Brooks is one of these young
18:36rookies drafted in the sixth round
18:38that I know that there's not going
18:40to be a whole lot of opportunity
18:42for any young player to get many
18:45touches on the ball but I know Joe
18:47Burrow likes what he's seen from
18:48him he he's a natural ball catcher.
18:51He runs good routes and like it is
18:53for most rookie running backs the
18:55real key for him is going to be
18:56can he protect.
18:58Certainly has shown a willingness
18:59to do it.
19:02Back to second down.
19:03Here is Taj and Brooks can't make
19:06the one handed grab.
19:10And that'll bring up third down
19:11and twelve.
19:16This is kind of what they've seen
19:17from him in camp and he comes up
19:19knows exactly what his assignment
19:20is slows him down knows he's got
19:22to get out and give Burrow an
19:24opportunity to go someplace with
19:25the football just with the
19:27rush and him getting out not able
19:29to connect on it.

21:25He signed for 14 different
21:28teams and NFL record.
21:30And if you count the teams he
21:32signed with more than once he's
21:34bounced around 22 times in his
21:3716 year career.
21:39He hands off to an exciting
21:42player a rookie Bill Krosky
21:44Merritt.
21:47And again a 5.
21:48Here's the first time the
21:49commanders had it.
21:50They had four plays.
21:52They went 74 yards.
21:54And it was all running
21:55plays.
21:57Including after this big one by
21:58Rodriguez.
22:00This little jump to the end zone
22:02by Jaden Daniels.
22:03Well we had general manager Adam
22:05Peters in the booth and he
22:06talked about how they're going
22:07to try to get the ball out of
22:08Daniels his hands quickly.
22:10Here's a nice throw by Johnson

22:15rookie they like.

22:19one pass play and Jake Daniels
22:22puts himself in harm's way.

22:26laugh about it and get ready for

22:31I would like to think that we have
22:32returned to our regularly scheduled
22:34programming in August with backups.

23:13tackle here Chris Paul he makes a
23:15nice kick out block opens up the
23:17lane because of again the block by
23:19tied in John Bates.
23:23Just an outstanding job and that's
23:24a young rookie.
23:26And Krosky Merritt that they are
23:27sure excited about.
23:30One of the reasons why they are
23:31apparently shopping Brian
23:33Robinson.
23:36The commanders right now are
23:37averaging just under 18 yards a
23:39carry six rushes 106 yards two
23:42touchdowns.
23:44And a seven point preseason game
23:46lead.
23:59Well for the final week of the NFL
24:00preseason this Saturday we'll have

24:18preseason and really for every team
24:21obviously and for the commanders
24:24it's Jake Corey Krosky Merritt a
24:25seventh round pick from Arizona.
24:27They love him.
24:29He's been so good.
24:31He goes by Bill by the way.
24:32That's I know his name is Jake Corey
24:34but he prefers Bill.
24:36And he just took it in on an
24:38impressive run got great blocks.
24:41And his emergence as they said
24:43kind of going to break is one of
24:44the reasons why they are.
24:46Supposedly shopping their starter
24:48Brian Robinson.
24:50Here's some IJP Ryan is to the
24:5230 and that's it.
24:54Here's the touchdown run.

25:02It's his first touchdown.
25:04He does his celebration.

25:24he's done already in this ball

25:28I mean that running back room
25:29is shaping up already here in
25:31this second game.
25:32That toss by the way by Jayden
25:34Daniels was his first and only
25:36pass attempt of the night.
25:44And then Josh Johnson took him

25:47As Taj Brooks as a nice carry on

25:53Well Jake Browning he comes in

26:25like this and for Dan Quinn as
26:26we talked about you're going to
26:27play your starters for the first
26:28time at least some of them but
26:29not all of them are.
26:32Didn't a chance to play in this
26:33game he still held out a number
26:35of guys so the ones that he's
26:37going to be depending on when
26:38the season opens but.
26:41The start of this game.
26:44For Washington certainly on
26:45offense but.
26:47The last possession and now
26:48forcing another third down here
26:49looking positive for this
26:50defense.
26:51They're down in five wide open
26:56you see Bosch in a first down
26:57for Cincinnati.
27:02Up to the 49 and a gain of 14 on
27:04third down.
27:05Well you see Bosch is such a big
27:07target and he was a big red zone
27:09weapon for this group last year
27:11and he wants to be more involved
27:13between the 20s and good route.
27:16And now that he's got another
27:18year under his belt working with
27:19Joe Burrow and within this
27:21offensive system.
27:23You know he's hoping for even a
27:25more productive year than he had
27:26last year.
27:31Brooks on the carry.

27:37And it's a hold so that's coming
27:38back.
27:45Holding over 64 offense 10 yard
27:47penalty replay first down patrolling
27:49the Cincinnati side is Laura

27:54Well yeah we've seen Joe Burrow
27:55out here with all of the second
27:57string receivers.
27:58He wanted to get some reps with
27:59him.
28:00He felt like that was really
28:01important when it comes to his
28:02timing and rhythm as you guys
28:04have talked about and I will say
28:06just watching him down here as
28:07you might imagine it's preseason
28:09but he's frustrated with how
28:10things are going so far.
28:11We'll talk to him a little later

28:17On first down at 20 that is
28:20incomplete for Charlie Jones.
28:24Yeah I Laura talked about the
28:26frustration of Joe Burrow and
28:28even throwing just one in
28:29completion week one as you
28:30talked about.
28:32I mean he is just not a
28:33satisfiable guy.
28:34He wants better and better and
28:36better and better.
28:37And there's the difference game

28:41And you know that was a tough
28:42throw that he was trying to
28:43make right there.
28:44But we did see it earlier on

38:04before those trade rumors started

38:06And he was talking about looking

38:09He was saying that he was feeling
38:10doubted because of the injuries
38:11he's had to deal with since
38:12coming into the league and not
38:13being as available as he would
38:14have liked.
38:15So he said the biggest thing he
38:16was looking forward to this
38:17season just being available to
38:18the team.
38:19He now feels 100 percent.
38:21He said he feels like he has
38:22wings that he can fly.
38:23Unfortunately it doesn't look like
38:25he'll be getting that chance here
38:27in Washington.
38:28Yeah he'll be somewhere for sure.
38:31But it doesn't look like he will
38:32be a commander.
38:36When the regular season kicks in

38:57They like Rodriguez.
38:59Felton and Kaz Allen.
39:00They've got a lot of options.

39:07ability to move Robinson if they

39:12right there that they feel

40:43outstanding route and one of the
40:45reasons he's able to create that
40:46separation is because of the speed
40:48that he has.
40:49This guy can absolutely fly and
40:51that those intermediate routes like
40:53that he should be able to create
40:54some separation setting up a
40:56screen.

42:00have looked really good in this

42:14You know I liked KJ Osborne when he

42:26They don't have Terry McLaurin
42:27can't imagine the commanders doing
42:30what they did a year ago without
42:32him and they've had a hard time
42:34getting guys on the field to play

42:40Brown coming into camp and if he
42:43were healthy he would be the number
42:45three guy McLaurin would be one
42:48Debo would be two but Noah he's
42:51been banged up McLaurin hasn't been
42:53practicing and Debo's really kind
42:55of been the only guy that they're
42:58depending on coming into the year.
43:01McLaurin has been through four
43:03coaches 13 different quarterbacks
43:05in his time and he's got five
43:08straight 1,000 yard receiving
43:10seasons.
43:11He's been as consistent a player and
43:14a leader in that locker room to
43:16the point where you know from the
43:19outside the guys that we talked to
43:21getting ready for games.
43:22He's one of the favorite guys that
43:23we talked to and you just have to
43:24buy the organization knows that
43:26something is going to get done here
43:28and you would imagine it would
43:29happen soon.
43:30And the good news is he knows the
43:31offense and you know he's worked
43:33with Jane Daniels and Jayden
43:36especially wants to see him here
43:39and you know for a guy who's done as
43:42much as he has done and played with
43:44as many quarterbacks he finally has
43:46this guy.
43:47I hope they get it worked out soon.
