Spanish doctors created an artificial womb to solve a major cause of miscarriage

Scientists created an artificial womb to understand why about 60 per cent of embryos either fail to implant in the womb or are lost soon after, a major cause of miscarriages.

00:00The human embryos are like three living forms, three floating forms, it's called, for five days.
00:17They find their 200 cells, more or less, very, very microscopic.
00:21Then they need to attach to the mother, and you lose them until they show up in an ultrasound weeks later, right?
00:29So what happens between day five and then the ultrasound? Completely black books.
00:47It's a fascinating study because it's really looking to try and understand why some embryos implant and why some don't.
00:54It's obviously a very difficult part of reproduction to study.
00:58And so the scientists have come up with a model whereby embryos can implant in a laboratory into tissue that's very, very similar to endometrium, which is the lining of the uterus.
