Armenia and Azerbaijan civil societies hold new round of broad talks to advance peace process

Armenian and Azerbaijan’s representatives met for the fourth round of talks as part of the so-called Peace Bridge Initiative to advance the historic peace process between the two South Caucasus neighbours.

00:06The normalization and the peace in South Hokusus is well needed in the West, in Europe, in the United States.
00:14Hikmet Hadjev, assistant to the president of Azerbaijan and head of the Department of Foreign Policy Affairs,
00:18led the talks and shook hands with each person sitting at the table.
00:22Here in Gabala, you can see that both sides have met to continue those discussions on peace negotiations
00:28between Armenia and Azerbaijan and we did witness both sides looking very willing to continue that dialogue.
00:35The participants here are to prepare their respective societies for their ultimate eventuality,
00:40the peace agreement and its consequences.
00:43This particular meeting is important because it's a fourth step actually.
00:48I'm participating from the very first day of this process.
00:51Officials from Azerbaijan say the talks are part of a broader diplomatic framework designed to move the process forward.
00:58For 30 years we've lived with closed borders and we haven't had the chance of having structured dialogue,
01:05which created the framework of mutual dehumanization.
01:09It is extremely important to continue these talks in this world where the violence and conflict grows around us,
01:16so it's very important to keep the track of peace.
01:19While significant challenges remain, continued dialogue is an important step in maintaining communication between the two sides.
01:25For now, meetings like this one in Gabala represent another attempt to keep the peace process flowing.
