Record turnout expected as parliamentary election in Hungary gets under way

Polls opened at 6am across the country, and will close 7pm local time. So far, all figures point to a record turnout.

00:00Hungarian elections pulled a strong record morning turnout as polls got underway on Sunday
00:06and some 7.5 million people were expected to catch their ballot.
00:10Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, president of the ruling Fidesz party,
00:14cast his vote in Buda Sunday morning and expressed delight with the voter turnout.
00:25Peter Maia, chairman of the Tsitsa party, the largest and only opposition party in Hungary,
00:31with a chance of forming a government, also cast his ballot in Buda.
00:35Maia said a potential record turnout and a smooth fair election would favor his party's victory.

00:52some 900 registered foreign observers are monitoring the parliamentary polls,
