In this video, Ivy Odom spills the tea on some things good hosts would never do. Spoiler alert: you won’t see her deep-cleaning every pocket of the house, acting overly fancy, building everything from scratch, playing bartender all night, or stressing every little detail. Instead, Ivy’s all about relaxed hosting—keeping it real, warm, and inviting.

00:00My mama is what we like to call in South Georgia, a hostess with the mostest.
00:05Here are seven things she would just never do beforehand.
00:08Number one, deep clean the whole house before the party.
00:11People stress too much about making sure the house is perfect.
00:15I promise no one is looking at your baseboards.
00:18Number two, cook everything from scratch.
00:20My mama is one of the best cooks I know, but she is not above something that is semi-homemade.
00:25Number three, showcase your fanciest things.
00:27Basically, if guests aren't allowed to touch it, it shouldn't be out at the party.
00:31Number four, play bartender all night.
00:33Mix up a batch drink, set up a bar station like I did here, and let guests get creative with their own drink.
00:39Number five, overdo it with the apology.
00:42Southerners love to apologize for doing nothing.
00:44They don't know you messed up, and an apology just draws attention to something they didn't notice in the first place.
00:49Number six, try to do everything yourself.
00:51Now, I got my control issues from my mama.
00:53We both love to be in charge.
00:54But we are not above delegating.
00:57And even if that means we're not the person meeting the first guest so that we have time to run upstairs, put our lipstick on, and breathe.
01:04Last but not least, not enjoy your own party.
01:07Try not to stress about the spa stuff and enjoy your own party.
01:11That's why you're throwing one after all.
