00:00An exploration of the mind after midnight can be seen in a 2022 study published in
00:06Frontiers in Network Psychology. The hypothesis of the same name confirms that our species is
00:12predisposed to feel and act in certain ways within the 24-hour cycle. Science Alert reports
00:19wakefulness during daytime enables an effective function of brain activity, for example hunting
00:24and gathering. Nights are reserved for rest, where humans are at greater risk of becoming
00:30the hunted. The site reiterates people can be prone to risky, even fatal behaviours,
00:35with negative stimuli heightened at night. Suicide and self-harm are very common at this time.
00:42Neurologist Elizabeth Klerman from Harvard University explains,
00:46There are millions of people who are awake in the middle of the night, and there's fairly
00:50good evidence that their brain is not functioning as well as it does during the day.
00:54Klerman calls for more research into the matter, because the mind after midnight remains
01:00too much of a mystery.
