00:00Some local told me to take this path.
00:02Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the strangest unsolved mysteries that have caused a stir on TikTok.
00:10Do you need help?
00:13Number 10. Elisa Lam.
00:15The tragic and bizarre death of Elisa Lam at the Cecil Hotel in 2013 has become one of the most covered TikTok mysteries.
00:22We are talking about Elisa Lam, and I can almost guarantee you that you are going to end this video with more questions than answers.
00:27Elisa disappeared shortly after checking into the hotel.
00:30In the last known footage of her, she's inside the elevator, acting strange, waving her hands around, and seemingly speaking to someone who isn't there.
00:37I remember feeling instinctively that this does not feel like it's going to end well.
00:44She was later found in a water tank on the hotel's roof after guests complained about low water pressure and reported that the water had a strange taste and smell.
00:52The tank had a heavy closed lid, so how did she end up there?
00:55Her elevator behavior has been explained as a symptom of her bipolar disorder, but there's no answer to how she opened the water tank.
01:03You can't forget Elisa Lam.
01:05She was important before she died, and she's still important.
01:08Number 9. Karen Silkwood.
01:10In 1974, Karen Silkwood, a lab technician at a nuclear plant, was about to expose major safety violations, including radioactive contamination and falsified inspection records.
01:20In the laboratory, we've got 18 and 19-year-old boys, you know, and 20 and 21.
01:28I mean, and they don't, they didn't have the schooling, so they don't understand what radiation is.
01:35While on her way to meet a New York Times reporter with a folder full of evidence, her car ran off the road, leading to her death.
01:41I do not think that she died asleep at the wheel, on the way to the most important meeting of her life.
01:47I don't think that happened at all.
01:49Even more mysteriously, all the documents she was carrying were missing from the scene.
01:53And the documents she had been carrying were missing and have never been found.
01:57Police ruled her death an accident, but later evidence would suggest her car got hit from behind and pushed off the road.
02:03All these years later, we still don't have a definitive answer.
02:06We just are running out of time, so it would be nice to, if there's anybody that would like to let us know, that would be a good time to come forward.
02:17Number 8. The Hanger Challenge.
02:18There's quite an unusual trend on TikTok dubbed the Hanger Challenge, which has people putting a coat hanger around their heads.
02:25Why does it do that?
02:26Doing so triggers a unique reflex, also known as the Hanger Reflex, which causes your head to involuntarily turn to the side, a phenomenon documented since the 90s.
02:35It's a fun and confusing experiment.
02:37Yeah, you moved.
02:38Oh yeah, it's like slight.
02:40But what makes it really interesting is the fact that no one has been able to fully explain it ever since its discovery.
02:46All we know is that the Hanger compresses the frontotemporal region of the brain, causing the head to turn.
02:51Isn't it funny how we stumble into stuff by somebody just put a hanger on their head?
02:55Number 7. Alicia Navarro.
02:57Alicia Navarro mysteriously disappeared from her Glensdale, Arizona home in 2019 and made national news.
03:04In the 12 years I've been working not just missing persons investigations, but criminal investigations of all sorts, this is the wildest thing I've ever been a part of.
03:12Navarro, who had been diagnosed with autism and had social anxiety, had left a note reading,
03:17I ran away. I will be back. I swear. I'm sorry.
03:20There were chairs stacked up by a wall in the backyard. It looks like she used them to climb over.
03:24For about four years, there were barely any developments in the case, until in 2023, when Alicia walked into a police station, identifying herself.
03:32She was safe, but to this day, no one knows why she disappeared, or how she ended up in a completely different state.
03:37While the missing persons case is closed, the investigation into the circumstances continues.
03:42We're still trying to piece some things together on our side of the equation on what exactly went down in Arizona.
03:50Number 6. Patty Adkins.
03:51The disappearance of Patty Adkins has haunted her family and captivated TikTok for years.
03:56This woman has been missing for 19 years.
03:58Patty worked at a Honda motor plant, and she was in a secret relationship with a married co-worker,
04:03whom she had allegedly planned to go on vacation with to Canada for a week.
04:06Any idea where she could have gone?
04:08There's been speculation through the case, but there's nothing that's been able to be confirmed.
04:14On the night of her disappearance in 2001, she was apparently supposed to hide under a tarp in the back of his truck,
04:20and witnesses reported seeing her leave the plant that day.
04:22Patty's sister, Marsha Pitts, called the man she was allegedly supposed to leave with,
04:27but he denied both the trip and any relationship.
04:29There has since been no activity on Patty's financial records, and she has been legally declared deceased.
04:34We have not given up. We still want closure for the family. We still want to have the answers to give to everyone.
04:41Number 5. Door Behind the Mirror.
04:43In 2021, TikTok user Samantha Hartsoe felt a strange wind draft coming from behind her bathroom mirror.
04:49What she found on the other side can only be described as shocking.
04:55Removing the mirror, she found a massive hole in the wall and climbed through, revealing a hidden room.
05:00But it was more than that. There was an entire abandoned apartment on the other side.
05:05I have to go in and figure out what is on the other side of my bathroom.
05:10It had signs of someone living there, like trash bags and a water bottle.
05:13It gets even creepier.
05:15One day, not long after, she woke up and went to check to find out the hole had been sealed.
05:19Someone might have been watching.
05:21The building management was allegedly unaware of what was going on.
05:24My landlord's getting a really fun phone call tomorrow.
05:27Number 4. Unwelcome Guest.
05:29TikTok user AdBetsAndAngel69 shared a series of unsettling videos that quickly went viral.
05:35Ty, there it is.
05:41Look, look, look, there it is.
05:43The footage, shot from inside her home, showed a mysterious figure pacing back and forth in the woods,
05:48surrounding her property for weeks.
05:50The person, or creature, was too far away to be properly recorded or identified.
05:54Um, this is the area where we see the figure?
06:00In later videos, she tries to confront the figure, but whatever it is seemingly runs away
06:04and starts wailing and howling.
06:06Do you need help?
06:10After that confrontation, she kept hearing it around the property.
06:13Since then, she's moved, but people have reported the person or entity is still there.
06:17Number 3. The Voynich Manuscript.
06:27The Voynich Manuscript is a 240-page book written in a language no one has ever been able to decipher.
06:33Recently carbon dated to around 1420,
06:36its vellum pages feature looping handwriting and hand-drawn images seemingly stolen from a dream.
06:41It was purchased in 1912 by Wilfred Voynich and has since been named after him,
06:46and it's believed to have been written sometime in the 15th century.
06:49It's full of intricate drawings of plans that don't exist and strange biological diagrams,
06:54but no one can understand what any of the text means.
06:56Tons of people, from cryptographers to YouTubers,
06:59have claimed to have deciphered the text, but none of them were able to prove it.
07:02For over a hundred years, cryptographers, linguists, and historians have all tried and failed to decipher it.
07:08The mystery is still debated to this day.
07:10Is it just a clever hoax, or is it a forgotten language?
07:14What do you think it is?
07:15Number 2. Randonauts.
07:17Randonautica is an app that uses a number generator to provide users with random coordinates to visit.
07:22So the whole thing with Randonautica is you've got to manifest.
07:25You've got to believe in yourself, you've got to believe in the universe,
07:26and then they'll give you the coordinates.
07:28TikTokers begin sharing their odd and sometimes unsettling discoveries,
07:32from creepy abandoned buildings to ominous messages.
07:34Its infamy peaked in 2020, when it led a group of teenagers in Seattle to a suitcase on a beach,
07:40containing bags with two decomposing bodies.
07:43How did you react when you heard the news?
07:45I was shocked and surprised.
07:47They captured this shocking discovery on video.
07:49People were quick to call it a hoax, but it was completely real,
07:52and the victim's landlord was arrested for murder.
07:54The app's creators have called it a coincidence, but it sure is a horrifying one.
07:58She's calling the police.

08:15Number 1. The Hands Resist Him
08:18The painting known as The Hands Resist Him by Bill Stoneham
08:21has been shrouded in mystery for decades since its creation in 1972.
08:25According to the artist himself, the painting was based on a photo taken of him when he was 5 years old.
08:31It's a creepy painting of a young boy and a life-sized doll standing next to him in front of a glass door.
08:37Behind him are dozens of ghost-like handprints on the glass, seemingly reaching out to him.
08:41Lots of TikTokers have claimed that the painting is cursed, and it's not surprising when you look at its history.
08:46It was displayed in an art gallery and was reviewed by art critic Henry Seldes for the LA Times.
08:52Allegedly, early owners of the piece passed away shortly after acquiring it,
08:56and since it's resurfaced on eBay, its owners have reported that people who come in contact with the painting become ill.
09:01Is the painting truly cursed, or is it just an elaborate hoax?
09:04If you're watching this, Mr. Stoneham, good job. Keep that painting away from me.
09:09Which unsolved TikTok mystery do you find most interesting?
09:12Comment the ones you thought should have been on here so we can cover them next time.
09:15Truly, one man's meditation is another one's nightmare.
