00:00:00A new series of Match of the Day, with Mark Chapman.
00:00:05What a great deal!
00:00:06Oh, what a goal!
00:00:07Oh, look at that!
00:00:09Absolutely!
00:00:10Oh, pretty good!
00:00:11Rudy!
00:00:13Welcome to Match of the Day.
00:01:00We've seen and heard that there is a big change to the show this season,
00:01:03and that is Wayne Rooney has joined us as a regular pundit.
00:01:08Some things don't change, though.
00:01:10Alan is still here.
00:01:11And he is absolutely delighted.
00:01:13The Sunderlander first stop, back in the top flight
00:01:15and at home to West Ham with Guy Mowbray.
00:01:19Eight years, three different sets of owners
00:01:22and ten changes of manager.
00:01:25A lot has happened since the last Premier League game on Wearside.
00:01:29And a lot's happened this summer.
00:01:31Ten new players signed and counting,
00:01:33with seven making their Sunderland debuts here today.
00:01:37Amongst them, goalkeeper Robin Roofs,
00:01:39record signing Habib Diara,
00:01:41and new club captain Granit Xhaka,
00:01:43back on these shores after two years at Bayer Leverkusen.
00:01:46West Ham, well, they're kicking off a 14th top flight season in a row
00:01:50and do so with two new arrivals in their team.
00:01:54Keeper Mads Hermanson brought in from Leicester
00:01:56and Senegalese wingback Elhaj Malik Jouf,
00:01:59whose pre-season performances promise a big season ahead.
00:02:03before the start, a moment to pay tribute to Diogo Jota
00:02:08and his brother Andre Silva, taken too soon.
00:02:12And it's Gerard Bowen, getting the ball under his spell
00:02:28and getting away from the challenge,
00:02:30and he might get a shot in two.
00:02:32He does.
00:02:33West Ham's first corner,
00:02:35Robin Roofs' first save for Sunderland.
00:02:36And Gerard Bowen looking sharp from the off.
00:02:42You'd struggle to find a better atmosphere
00:02:44anywhere in the world this weekend
00:02:47than the Sunderland Stadium of Light.
00:02:51Diara in on goal!
00:02:54Really strong hand from Hermanson.
00:02:56Really good start to the game attacking-wise
00:02:59from both sets of players.
00:03:01Both goalkeepers in business.
00:03:03It's only Graham Potter's 20th game as West Ham boss.
00:03:08Never really got going last season.
00:03:10Now he's had a whole summer to work on
00:03:12his style of play, getting used to the players.
00:03:15They getting used to him.
00:03:18Bowen.
00:03:19Playing it across to Fulcrogg.
00:03:21There's Jouf!
00:03:23Saved by Roofs with help from Ballard.
00:03:27Lovely take and turn from Gerard Bowen.
00:03:29The touch from Fulcrogg, pretty good too.
00:03:32And Jouf thought he scored.
00:03:33I don't think Roofs was getting there.
00:03:35Good job Ballard did.
00:03:37Last three meetings of the teams here
00:03:40have been drawn.
00:03:40The last couple both 2-2.
00:03:43Pulled back.
00:03:45Beat the hands of the keeper Hermanson.
00:03:47Then it beats the post on the follow-up
00:03:48from Odingra.
00:03:51Looks a pretty presentable chance.
00:03:53It's a really well-timed run
00:03:54by Mayenda.
00:03:56Does really well to get there.
00:03:58And Odingra, well, it was
00:03:59sort of a half attempt to control the ball
00:04:02and then a belated thought about
00:04:04putting it in the bottom corner.
00:04:07Regis Labris will be thinking his team have done
00:04:09pretty much okay to this point.
00:04:12Odingra, Diarra, shoot is the cry, Diarra might now.
00:04:22Always looked likely to be too high.
00:04:26And having only done it once or twice in the first half,
00:04:28now on a more regular basis,
00:04:30Sunderland are threatening
00:04:32the West Ham penalty area.
00:04:36Past the hour
00:04:37and Sunderland starting to get themselves on top.
00:04:45Odorete.
00:04:46That's down for the corner
00:04:48and it's in!
00:04:52Mayenda
00:04:52with the Sunderland break-through!
00:05:01Have a listen to that!
00:05:06Scorer
00:05:07of the goal at Wembley
00:05:09that kept Sunderland's hopes
00:05:12of a Premier League return alive!
00:05:15Now in his 50th game for the club,
00:05:18he scores the first goal
00:05:20of that return!
00:05:23Sunderland 1
00:05:24West Ham 0
00:05:26Paquita, Odingra will get there
00:05:33before Tadebo could
00:05:35and he turns and
00:05:39tries to take on Tadebo for pace
00:05:41and wins a corner
00:05:43and it looks as though
00:05:46the winger signed from Brighton
00:05:48has got the message
00:05:49if you play to this crowd
00:05:51boy will they play for you!
00:05:59Bermansson's coming for it
00:06:00and gets to it!
00:06:06Rijnildo
00:06:06uses the space
00:06:10now uses a ding-ra
00:06:11that's pretty handy
00:06:13that's 2-0
00:06:13that's ball out
00:06:17that might be three points
00:06:20what a cross
00:06:27what a header
00:06:28what a return to the Premier League
00:06:31this is turning out to be
00:06:33for Sunderland
00:06:34Rijnildo played his part
00:06:39saw some space
00:06:40moved into it
00:06:40look at that
00:06:41for a ball in
00:06:42the Sunderland fans
00:06:44with longer memories
00:06:45you're going back to the 90s
00:06:48that's Nicky Somerville
00:06:48for Niall Quinn
00:06:49Sunderland 2
00:06:52West Ham 0
00:06:53Wilson
00:07:01fouled by Hulme
00:07:06Graham Potter
00:07:09Bruno and Billy Reid
00:07:10working out
00:07:12when to play the next card
00:07:13and what that card should be
00:07:15Rufs tipped it over the bar
00:07:19winning plenty of admirers
00:07:24on debut
00:07:25would have been an own goal
00:07:28but for Rufs' free actions
00:07:29pack it up
00:07:33Wan-Bissaka
00:07:36and it's deflected behind
00:07:38West Ham corner
00:07:40there will be at least
00:07:44seven more minutes to play
00:07:46and it will just raise a few eyebrows
00:07:50and appeal hugely to West Ham fans
00:07:52as Ruf spills the ball
00:07:53no foul though
00:07:54and another corner one
00:07:58well if they get one in now
00:08:00just hold on to your hats
00:08:01going for the long ball in
00:08:08Alderete got his head to it
00:08:09now it's Talby
00:08:10Talby up to Isidor
00:08:16who was all on his own
00:08:19Isidor
00:08:22all over now
00:08:29a goal brilliantly finished
00:08:39to finish this off as any sort of contest
00:08:42West Ham were a tired looking bunch there
00:08:46how on earth did Wilson Isidor find himself with all that room
00:08:50and it just dipped at the right time
00:08:55to deceive Mads Hermansen
00:08:56a winning return to the Premier League
00:08:59and then some
00:09:00for Sunderland
00:09:02it'll be a good night on Wearside
00:09:06it's an incredible start to the season for Sunderland
00:09:10they've waited eight long years for this day
00:09:14the fans will have come here today
00:09:17hoping
00:09:18dreaming
00:09:20maybe not even fully believing
00:09:22they certainly didn't think it would go this well
00:09:26goals for Mayenda
00:09:29Ballard and Isidor
00:09:31three who've come with them
00:09:33on the journey up from the championship
00:09:36if this is how it's going to be here all season
00:09:39it's going to be one to remember for Sunderland fans
00:09:42Sunderland three
00:09:45West Ham nil
00:09:46happy for the club
00:09:50happy for the organisation
00:09:52happy for the players
00:09:54and happy for our fans
00:09:55because this comeback in the Premier League
00:09:58with this connection
00:09:59we had in our stands today
00:10:01it's really impressive
00:10:02debuts for eight players
00:10:04today
00:10:05does it make it a little bit more special though
00:10:07that your three goal scorers
00:10:09were all players who helped you
00:10:10gain promotion last season
00:10:12yeah it's important
00:10:13it's important first of all
00:10:14because they showed that
00:10:16they can step up
00:10:17we want to keep the same strength
00:10:20we used last season to get promoted
00:10:22this togetherness
00:10:23the way we defend together
00:10:24this intensity in our game
00:10:26and these players
00:10:28I think have this strength inside
00:10:32the first goals are always important in the game
00:10:34and we played
00:10:36a decent away performance in the first half
00:10:39but it's not too much comfort at the moment
00:10:42because the second half wasn't good enough
00:10:44there wasn't too much in the game
00:10:46it was a fine margins game
00:10:48at the same time
00:10:48the scoreline reflects poorly on us
00:10:50and we have to accept that
00:10:51it's the first game of the season
00:10:53the season's not won or lost in the first game
00:10:56there's still 37 games left to go
00:10:57but we know we have to be better
00:10:59and we have to change that
00:11:01my feel was just
00:11:02we have to win the first game
00:11:03to be confident for the rest of the season
00:11:05and we did it very well today
00:11:07so that's it
00:11:09and we need to keep going
00:11:10in that intensity
00:11:12well I mean great start for Sunderland
00:11:15a lot of people
00:11:16a lot of pundits
00:11:17have praised
00:11:18their transfer window business
00:11:20as they've brought
00:11:21players into double figures
00:11:22into the squad
00:11:23but the proof was always going to be
00:11:25whether they could gel
00:11:26now I know it's early days
00:11:27but the signs are quite good
00:11:28yeah I think the signs were excellent
00:11:31I think they've obviously
00:11:32had a lot of players
00:11:33making their debut today
00:11:34but I think the organisation
00:11:36of how they played
00:11:37they played the exact same way
00:11:38last season
00:11:40and obviously managed to get promotion
00:11:42so I know first hand
00:11:44of coming up games
00:11:44I actually got one of my only wins
00:11:46get that in early
00:11:48well done
00:11:49yeah but no I think
00:11:49if you see here
00:11:50Diario was a huge threat all game
00:11:53and his run forward
00:11:54his energy
00:11:55there was a lot of energy
00:11:55about Sunderland
00:11:56in general
00:11:57all afternoon
00:11:59but you see here
00:12:00in the second half
00:12:01they put the wide players
00:12:02a little bit wider
00:12:03created a little bit more
00:12:04space in the midfield
00:12:05for Sunderland to go and attack
00:12:07West Ham
00:12:08and West Ham struggled
00:12:09to deal with it
00:12:09and then we see here
00:12:11runs in behind
00:12:12should put the ball in the box
00:12:14a little bit earlier
00:12:15he can but
00:12:16he gets it in
00:12:17it's a good chance
00:12:18and probably should do better
00:12:19to take the lead
00:12:20but then
00:12:21this one here
00:12:22again
00:12:23West Ham's defence
00:12:24getting spread
00:12:25to youth
00:12:26getting forced out
00:12:27to the ball
00:12:28Ogard having to
00:12:30focus on the player
00:12:32out wide
00:12:32and then again
00:12:33we see here
00:12:34runs in behind
00:12:35big gap in the middle
00:12:36of the West Ham defence
00:12:37always a threat
00:12:39runs in behind
00:12:40and then if he makes
00:12:41the right decision here
00:12:42and rolls it across
00:12:43they get a tap in
00:12:45so he makes
00:12:45the wrong decision
00:12:46but they get a corner
00:12:47from it
00:12:48and then as you see here
00:12:52Isidore making
00:12:52a great run
00:12:54long run
00:12:54in the last minute
00:12:55I think it was
00:12:56the 92nd minute
00:12:56of the game
00:12:57Sunderland sat in
00:12:59and soaked up
00:13:00a lot of pressure
00:13:00but kept that energy
00:13:02and a great substitution
00:13:03from the manager
00:13:04third goal of the game
00:13:05seized the game off
00:13:06and a fantastic star
00:13:07for Sunderland
00:13:08on the opening day
00:13:09a promoter side
00:13:10didn't win until
00:13:10the 5th of October
00:13:11last season
00:13:13generally
00:13:14do you think
00:13:15that is a blueprint
00:13:15that can work
00:13:16sit deep
00:13:17and counter attack
00:13:18I think it has to be
00:13:20I think we've seen
00:13:20last season
00:13:21with the promoter teams
00:13:23coming up
00:13:24and we've seen it
00:13:25with Burnley
00:13:25in particular
00:13:26under Vincent Kompany
00:13:27and teams coming
00:13:28into the Premier League
00:13:28and trying to play
00:13:29and be expansive
00:13:30and you just can't do that
00:13:32the gap from Championship
00:13:33to Premier League
00:13:34is massive
00:13:35and I think the way
00:13:35Sunderland played today
00:13:36shows that you can get
00:13:37results in this league
00:13:38if you're organised
00:13:39you work hard
00:13:40and you stick together
00:13:40as a team
00:13:41Labrice highlighted
00:13:41the importance
00:13:42of those players
00:13:43who got them up
00:13:44last season
00:13:45which we saw
00:13:45with the goal scorers
00:13:46all three goal scorers
00:13:47vitally important
00:13:48to them last season
00:13:49yeah they was
00:13:49and I think
00:13:50you know
00:13:51so many new players
00:13:52but the players
00:13:53who helped them
00:13:54get into the Premier League
00:13:54last season
00:13:55had a huge impact
00:13:56in the game
00:13:57this afternoon
00:13:58and I think
00:13:59if you look here
00:13:59Mayander he stays
00:14:00he occupies the defence
00:14:02stays in the middle
00:14:02of the goal
00:14:03which is really important
00:14:04and the cross
00:14:05it's a good cross
00:14:06but he's got no right
00:14:08to score there
00:14:09and I think
00:14:09just pure determination
00:14:11willing to put his head
00:14:12on the end of the ball
00:14:13gets a good contact
00:14:15good header
00:14:15and a well deserved goal
00:14:16to put them 1-0 up
00:14:18and then I think
00:14:19Dan Ballard
00:14:20I thought he was
00:14:21fantastic last season
00:14:23for Sunderland
00:14:23but carried it on
00:14:24today in the first game
00:14:25of the season
00:14:25as you see here
00:14:27his goalkeeper's in trouble
00:14:28it's a real big chance
00:14:29for West Ham
00:14:30but he gets back
00:14:31helps his goalkeeper out
00:14:32and makes a fantastic
00:14:33clearance off the land
00:14:35which prevents
00:14:36West Ham from going 1-0 up
00:14:37but then we see here
00:14:38he can do it in both boxes
00:14:40we've seen him do this
00:14:41last season
00:14:41to get Sunderland
00:14:43into the final
00:14:44of the playoffs
00:14:45stays up
00:14:47great crossing
00:14:48and a fantastic header
00:14:49that's a great header
00:14:50that isn't it
00:14:51fabulous
00:14:51so in the pre-programmed
00:14:55meeting
00:14:55you were quite keen
00:14:56to talk West Ham
00:14:57rather than Sunderland
00:14:57so if you were
00:14:59if you were a West Ham fan
00:15:01how concerned would you be
00:15:03this season?
00:15:03yeah I would be
00:15:04I mean that's
00:15:04Graham Potter's biggest defeat
00:15:06as West Ham manager
00:15:07they haven't replaced
00:15:08Kudos
00:15:09two new players
00:15:10in the starting line up
00:15:11today
00:15:12Callum Wilson
00:15:13came on
00:15:13but Bowen
00:15:15was their main threat
00:15:16particularly in the first half
00:15:17but the second half
00:15:19would be the one
00:15:19to worry about
00:15:20because once they conceded
00:15:21that first goal
00:15:22they just folded
00:15:22like a pack of gods
00:15:23there was no spark
00:15:24there was no spark
00:15:24no energy
00:15:25and there certainly
00:15:26was no reaction
00:15:27at all
00:15:28and that would be
00:15:28the worrying thing
00:15:29already
00:15:30right Pep Guardiola
00:15:32began his 10th season
00:15:33in charge of Manchester City
00:15:35with a visit to Wolves
00:15:36at Molyneux
00:15:37for this one
00:15:37Steve Ball
00:15:38after finishing
00:15:41outside the top two
00:15:42for only the second time
00:15:43in his managerial career
00:15:44Pep Guardiola
00:15:46begins his challenge
00:15:47of relighting
00:15:48Manchester City's fire
00:15:49he'll do it today

00:16:37a minute's applause
00:16:38he knows it was the lowest
00:16:51points tally
00:16:51in his City tenure
00:16:52last season
00:16:53they did finish strongly
00:16:55no team took more points

00:20:08two goals
00:20:10in less
00:20:11than four
00:20:11minutes
00:20:12now suddenly
00:20:14lit up
00:20:15the game
00:20:15for Manchester
00:20:16City
00:20:17no changes
00:20:20from either
00:20:20side
00:20:21at half
00:20:22time
00:20:22and the
00:20:23hosts
00:20:24alter
00:20:25the
00:20:25scoreline
00:20:26that's for
00:20:27Hoover to
00:20:28chase
00:20:28it's a
00:20:30useful ball
00:20:31Strand
00:20:31Larsson
00:20:32what a start
00:20:36to the second
00:20:37half
00:20:37that would have
00:20:38been for the
00:20:38hosts
00:20:38Strand
00:20:40Larsson
00:20:40just couldn't
00:20:42quite get the
00:20:43angle
00:20:43he's got it
00:20:56nicely taken again
00:20:57with
00:20:57Reinders
00:20:58he's got it back from
00:21:01Oscar Bob
00:21:02Harland's waiting
00:21:03Arling
00:21:04Harland
00:21:04emphatic
00:21:06emphatic
00:21:07and that
00:21:13combination
00:21:14again
00:21:14Tijani
00:21:18Reinders
00:21:18involved in
00:21:20two goals
00:21:20has scored
00:21:21the other
00:21:22Harland at
00:21:23the double
00:21:24with that
00:21:25sweeping
00:21:26finish
00:21:26past
00:21:28Jose
00:21:28Sarr
00:21:293-0
00:21:32Manchester
00:21:33City
00:21:33and that
00:21:36now means
00:21:36that
00:21:36Erling
00:21:37Harland
00:21:37has scored
00:21:38more
00:21:38Premier League
00:21:38goals
00:21:39against
00:21:39Wolves
00:21:39than any
00:21:40other
00:21:40opponent
00:21:41he's into
00:21:41double
00:21:42figures
00:21:42on 10
00:21:43they're sick
00:21:44of the sight
00:21:45of him
00:21:45Reinders
00:21:49he's gone
00:21:51for the
00:21:51return
00:21:51from Oscar
00:21:52Bob
00:21:52in the
00:21:55penalty
00:21:56area
00:21:56at that
00:21:56moment
00:21:57it's picked
00:21:58up by
00:21:58Marmouche
00:21:59Cherki
00:22:08oh
00:22:09it's a
00:22:09debut
00:22:09goal
00:22:10for him
00:22:10as well
00:22:11he's only
00:22:13been on the
00:22:14pitch just
00:22:14over seven
00:22:15minutes
00:22:16a day
00:22:17ahead of
00:22:18his 22nd
00:22:19birthday
00:22:19and he
00:22:21makes it
00:22:214-0
00:22:22to dream
00:22:25entrance
00:22:25for the
00:22:26French
00:22:26international
00:22:26and the
00:22:29new look
00:22:30Manchester
00:22:30City
00:22:31lead Wolves
00:22:32by four
00:22:33goals to
00:22:34nil
00:22:34and Wolves
00:22:38are heading
00:22:38for their
00:22:39heaviest
00:22:40defeat
00:22:41defeat
00:22:41under
00:22:41Vitor
00:22:42Pereira
00:22:42does it get
00:22:46much better
00:22:46than that
00:22:46with new
00:22:47players
00:22:47away from
00:22:47home
00:22:48clean sheet
00:22:48in terms of
00:22:50result
00:22:50yeah
00:22:50in terms of
00:22:5115 seats
00:22:52first half was
00:22:53really good
00:22:53second half was
00:22:54not good
00:22:56but it's normal
00:22:56in this part of the
00:22:57season
00:22:57how to improve
00:22:58we did things
00:23:00well done
00:23:01in my opinion
00:23:02we played
00:23:03with brave
00:23:04we didn't
00:23:05went in the
00:23:06game just to
00:23:06defend
00:23:07because I don't
00:23:08believe in this
00:23:08kind of game
00:23:09every time we
00:23:10committed a
00:23:10mistake
00:23:11they scored
00:23:11very happy
00:23:12with assist
00:23:13and a goal
00:23:13and a very
00:23:14good win
00:23:15that's first
00:23:15of all
00:23:16it's a great
00:23:17start
00:23:17and yeah
00:23:18we have to
00:23:19keep going
00:23:19now
00:23:19also
00:23:20Czerny coming
00:23:20off the
00:23:20bench
00:23:20with a goal
00:23:21as well
00:23:21there's a new
00:23:22energy
00:23:22about this
00:23:23Manchester
00:23:23City team
00:23:24yeah I think
00:23:25you can see
00:23:25everyone in the
00:23:26team has so
00:23:27many qualities
00:23:28and even if
00:23:29you start on
00:23:30the bench
00:23:30and come in
00:23:30the pitch
00:23:31you can bring
00:23:32new things
00:23:33and yeah
00:23:34that's a good
00:23:34thing of our
00:23:35team
00:23:35well if he
00:23:37continues this
00:23:38season like he
00:23:39did today
00:23:39we're going to
00:23:39have some fun
00:23:40watching him
00:23:40aren't we
00:23:41he was off
00:23:41the scale
00:23:42he was absolutely
00:23:43sensational
00:23:44it was almost
00:23:44the perfect
00:23:45midfield
00:23:46performance
00:23:46and for his
00:23:47first league
00:23:48game to
00:23:49stand out
00:23:49like he did
00:23:50today it was
00:23:51an incredible
00:23:52game from
00:23:53him
00:23:53I mean
00:23:55everything that
00:23:55he did
00:23:56whether it
00:23:57was reading
00:23:58the game
00:23:59whether he
00:23:59was particularly
00:24:00impressive with
00:24:01actually running
00:24:01with and
00:24:03without the
00:24:03ball
00:24:04there
00:24:04this is a
00:24:05great example
00:24:06of it there
00:24:06when you've
00:24:07got that much
00:24:07space and the
00:24:08way he just
00:24:09glides past the
00:24:10two players
00:24:10and the way
00:24:11to pass into
00:24:12Rico Lewis
00:24:12that isn't a
00:24:13bad pass either
00:24:14by the way
00:24:14into Erling
00:24:15Haaland for a
00:24:16simple tap-in
00:24:17but he controlled
00:24:18the game
00:24:19at his pace
00:24:20I said about
00:24:20running without
00:24:21the ball
00:24:21this is what I
00:24:22mean
00:24:22he's ran
00:24:2350 or 60
00:24:23yards to get
00:24:24onto that
00:24:25then he
00:24:25doesn't let
00:24:26anyone down
00:24:26with a really
00:24:27cool finish
00:24:28he's aware of
00:24:29everything around
00:24:30him the space
00:24:31but again look
00:24:32he passes the
00:24:33ball but look
00:24:33what he does
00:24:34an absolute
00:24:34nightmare to
00:24:36play against
00:24:36because someone
00:24:37that's always on
00:24:38the move and
00:24:38great at timing
00:24:39those runs for
00:24:41the opposition is
00:24:41very very difficult
00:24:43what about this
00:24:43touch
00:24:44and again
00:24:45running with
00:24:46the ball
00:24:47people keeping up
00:24:48with him obviously
00:24:48but the way he
00:24:49gets in behind
00:24:50but then the
00:24:51vision
00:24:51and the way
00:24:52to pass again
00:24:53to put that
00:24:54into Erling
00:24:55Haaland's
00:24:56pack to run
00:24:56onto it
00:24:57and to hit it
00:24:58finding the
00:24:59space
00:24:59again the
00:25:01understanding
00:25:01with another
00:25:02new boy
00:25:02Cherky
00:25:03but then
00:25:03he plays that
00:25:04ball
00:25:05and if it
00:25:05wasn't for the
00:25:06little touch
00:25:06here of
00:25:07Marmouche
00:25:08he's actually
00:25:08in again
00:25:09and again
00:25:10running from
00:25:10inside his
00:25:11own half
00:25:11to get into
00:25:12that position
00:25:14so 46 million
00:25:15very very
00:25:16impressive
00:25:17start from
00:25:17him
00:25:18and from
00:25:19Manchester
00:25:19to City
00:25:20you can see
00:25:20how much
00:25:21he stood out
00:25:21well with
00:25:22all those
00:25:22stats there
00:25:23he really
00:25:24was impressive
00:25:24as we saw
00:25:25earlier
00:25:25Serie A
00:25:26midfielder
00:25:26of the year
00:25:27and he got
00:25:2815 goals
00:25:28in all
00:25:29comps
00:25:29from Milan
00:25:29last season
00:25:30you don't want
00:25:31to go overboard
00:25:32too early
00:25:32do you
00:25:33but is he
00:25:34the Kevin
00:25:34De Bruyne
00:25:35shaped hole
00:25:36is that what
00:25:36he's going
00:25:37to fill
00:25:37yeah well
00:25:38it looks like
00:25:39it certainly
00:25:39looks like
00:25:39on today's
00:25:40performance
00:25:40and I think
00:25:41what really
00:25:42impressed me
00:25:43with Manchester
00:25:43today was
00:25:44the energy
00:25:44they played
00:25:45with I think
00:25:45the last season
00:25:47there was question
00:25:48marks about
00:25:48the energy
00:25:48and what
00:25:49they had
00:25:49in the team
00:25:50but I think
00:25:50today they had
00:25:51some really
00:25:51good young
00:25:52players
00:25:52and really
00:25:53outworked
00:25:54Wolves
00:25:54throughout the
00:25:55game
00:25:55he was a
00:25:56key part
00:25:56of that
00:25:57I mentioned
00:25:57it a few
00:25:58times in
00:25:58the analysis
00:25:59run there
00:26:00the way
00:26:00he ran
00:26:01with hand
00:26:02without the
00:26:02ball
00:26:02and when
00:26:03you're up
00:26:04against that
00:26:04it's difficult
00:26:05to keep up
00:26:06they kept
00:26:06on going
00:26:07and going
00:26:07and they
00:26:08just didn't
00:26:08have an answer
00:26:09for it
00:26:09very quickly
00:26:10do you think
00:26:10that's a new
00:26:11philosophy
00:26:11then in that
00:26:12Guardiola team
00:26:12that ball
00:26:13carry
00:26:13because we
00:26:14talk about
00:26:14systems
00:26:15and knocking
00:26:15it
00:26:15and I know
00:26:16Grealish
00:26:16would run
00:26:17with the
00:26:17ball
00:26:17from a
00:26:18slightly
00:26:18different
00:26:18position
00:26:18but is that
00:26:19a different
00:26:20sign you're
00:26:22seeing
00:26:22from him
00:26:23it is
00:26:23in that
00:26:24particular
00:26:24team
00:26:25yeah
00:26:25because
00:26:25when someone's
00:26:26got that
00:26:27ability
00:26:27to do that
00:26:28you have
00:26:28to let
00:26:28them free
00:26:29to do it
00:26:29and he
00:26:29was brilliant
00:26:30at it
00:26:30today
00:26:30they couldn't
00:26:31cope
00:26:31with him
00:26:31right
00:26:32Thomas Frank's

00:26:46Thomas Frank
00:26:47might not be
00:26:48aware that

00:26:50lost their

00:27:37Bergvall

00:27:44bright start
00:27:45by Spurs
00:27:46Bergvall
00:27:48got a yard
00:27:50of space
00:27:50and Dubravka
00:27:51spread himself
00:27:52well
00:27:52he had a
00:27:55terrific spell
00:27:56here
00:27:56very influential
00:27:57on the field
00:27:58and in the
00:27:59dressing room
00:27:59and probably
00:28:00had his best
00:28:01England spell
00:28:02while he was
00:28:03a Spurs
00:28:04player
00:28:04decent cross
00:28:06in the middle
00:28:07looking for
00:28:07Richarlison
00:28:08and a fine
00:28:10confident take
00:28:10again by
00:28:11Dubravka
00:28:11he's
00:28:13back in
00:28:13goalkeeper
00:28:14very experienced
00:28:19keeper
00:28:20nearing 450
00:28:21league games
00:28:22he's held the
00:28:22ball longer
00:28:23than eight
00:28:23seconds
00:28:23and that's
00:28:24the first
00:28:25time this
00:28:26season
00:28:26that that
00:28:28decision has
00:28:29been given
00:28:30at Premier League
00:28:31level I think
00:28:31he held the
00:28:33ball longer
00:28:33than eight
00:28:34seconds
00:28:35and therefore
00:28:36it's a corner
00:28:37kick for
00:28:38Spurs
00:28:38floated in
00:28:41by Kudus
00:28:41away there
00:28:42by Hartman
00:28:43Burnley's

00:28:50Johnson
00:28:52Burnley can't
00:28:53get out
00:28:54at the moment
00:28:55Spence
00:28:55it's all
00:28:57Tottenham
00:28:57early on
00:28:58Tottenham
00:29:06look for

00:29:18here's
00:29:18Richarlison
00:29:19half a chance
00:29:20Spurs lead
00:29:201-0
00:29:22it's been
00:29:23coming since
00:29:23kick-off
00:29:24and Tottenham
00:29:26had their
00:29:27first goal of
00:29:27the season
00:29:27inside 10
00:29:28minutes
00:29:29far too
00:29:31much room
00:29:32for Richarlison
00:29:32worked hard
00:29:34for 72
00:29:35minutes
00:29:36and the
00:29:36Super Cup
00:29:36in the week
00:29:37and his
00:29:38positional sense
00:29:39paid off here
00:29:40Burnley aren't
00:29:41tight enough
00:29:42he just
00:29:42drifted away
00:29:43an extra
00:29:44yard
00:29:44to get away
00:29:45from Walker
00:29:46in the middle
00:29:47and Ekdell
00:29:48I think it was
00:29:49good finish

00:29:52Burnley Burnley
00:29:53Burnley 1-0
00:29:53Burnley 1-0
00:29:53poor ball
00:29:58by Romero
00:29:59he hasn't had
00:30:00a good half
00:30:00so backtracks
00:30:02here's Josh
00:30:03Lauren
00:30:03Walker up
00:30:05into attack
00:30:05too much
00:30:06weight on the
00:30:07ball
00:30:07Porro has
00:30:08taken a real
00:30:08chance there
00:30:09there is some
00:30:11contact between
00:30:12the players
00:30:13say
00:30:13the VAR
00:30:14but the ball's
00:30:15way away
00:30:16from the coming
00:30:17together
00:30:18James Lawrence
00:30:24cuts it around
00:30:25the corner
00:30:25Gray is well
00:30:26positioned
00:30:26spins the
00:30:28pass
00:30:28Johnson pulls it
00:30:30back
00:30:30Richarlison
00:30:31it's blocked
00:30:31in there
00:30:32Richarlison again
00:30:33just squeezed
00:30:35somehow
00:30:35White
00:30:35Kudus
00:30:38follows up
00:30:39it was a
00:30:41dangerous cross
00:30:41darting to that
00:30:42far post area
00:30:43Richarlison so
00:30:44nearly had a
00:30:44second
00:30:45there they are
00:30:47confirming that
00:30:48hit the chest
00:30:49of Maxime

00:30:58Cullen

00:31:08Foster
00:31:08can he get

00:31:09away
00:31:09on the
00:31:09turn
00:31:10Anthony
00:31:10might
00:31:11that's the
00:31:11closest
00:31:12Burnley
00:31:12have come
00:31:12to score
00:31:13wide open
00:31:20opportunity
00:31:20for Burnley
00:31:21to get back
00:31:21into the
00:31:21game
00:31:22here's Daniel
00:31:27Levy
00:31:27oft criticised
00:31:30chairman
00:31:31of Tottenham
00:31:32Hotspur
00:31:32the net spend

00:31:39packed his
00:31:39managers
00:31:39Poirot
00:31:44has done well
00:31:49again
00:31:49Kudus with the
00:31:50cross in
00:31:50it's a brilliant
00:31:51effort
00:31:51and a sensational
00:31:53goal by
00:31:53Richarlison
00:31:54his second of the
00:31:57second of the game
00:31:57Tottenham's second
00:31:58of the game
00:31:58which might make
00:32:00it safe
00:32:00you never know
00:32:01with Spurs
00:32:01but what I can tell
00:32:03you is
00:32:03you'll have to go a long
00:32:05way to find a better
00:32:06goal in coming months
00:32:07than that one
00:32:07brilliant finish
00:32:09you never quite know
00:32:11what his future
00:32:12what his future will be at Spurs
00:32:13and I'll tell you what
00:32:15for the immediate
00:32:16he has the hearts
00:32:18of everyone here
00:32:19it could be Richarlison
00:32:24who goes away
00:32:25for the opening day
00:32:25with a match
00:32:26if he gets another
00:32:27he did well there
00:32:28to bring in Sy
00:32:29took a knock
00:32:29Richarlison as well
00:32:30here's Johnson
00:32:31in on goal
00:32:32takes it wide
00:32:32plods it in
00:32:33Spurs have a third
00:32:35game set of match
00:32:36Richarlison has two
00:32:39and he played a major
00:32:40role in that
00:32:41right at the start
00:32:41of the move
00:32:42it's being checked
00:32:45here for a possible
00:32:46foul right at the
00:32:46start of the move
00:32:47Richarlison
00:32:49holding it up
00:32:50against Ektal
00:32:51there's no foul
00:32:51there whatsoever
00:32:52and then Sy
00:32:54finds
00:32:55Brennan Johnson
00:32:57and Brennan Johnson
00:32:59finds the back
00:33:00of the net
00:33:01oh neatly played
00:33:02outside of the boot
00:33:03that's a good finish
00:33:04and that'll do
00:33:07Brennan Johnson
00:33:07the world of good
00:33:08as well
00:33:08good challenge
00:33:13on him by
00:33:13Bentancur
00:33:14Spurs pick it up
00:33:15now Spence
00:33:15on the outside
00:33:17Sar now
00:33:18Spence
00:33:23always done
00:33:24brilliantly
00:33:24goes for the near
00:33:25post
00:33:25parried away
00:33:26could have
00:33:28looked disappointed
00:33:29in the middle
00:33:29he thought the ball
00:33:30might be pulled back
00:33:30to him by
00:33:31Jed Spence
00:33:31Solanke was at
00:33:33the far post
00:33:33as well
00:33:34brilliantly there
00:33:35to put
00:33:35Shauna
00:33:36onto the seat
00:33:37of his pants
00:33:37not going to beat
00:33:38the goalkeeper
00:33:39from that angle
00:33:40to the far
00:33:51and they'll have to wait for
00:33:55Their first goal back in the Premier League, Burnley.
00:33:57Thomas Frank celebrates his first league game in charge of Spurs with a win.
00:34:02A ninth successive Tottenham manager to go undefeated in their first game.
00:34:07Good win for Tottenham Hotspur.
00:34:09Burnley won't despair because for nearly an hour they were in the game.
00:34:12But in the end, it's Tottenham who win it 3-0.
00:34:16Very happy.
00:34:18First game of the season is always important.
00:34:21A clear 3-0 win.
00:34:22It's never easy to win.
00:34:26So I really appreciate it.
00:34:29I think there was a lot of good stuff in it.
00:34:32A clean sheet.
00:34:33Can't highlight that enough.
00:34:35I think that's key.
00:34:35I thought we started the game very tentative.
00:34:38They come out of the blocks.
00:34:40I thought we edged our way in the first half.
00:34:42And then the ruthlessness of the Premier League.
00:34:44Richarlsson obviously puts one away.
00:34:47So overall a lot of positives today for us, to be honest with you.
00:34:50Yeah, and yeah, something certainly to work on for us.
00:34:54Are you aware that Spurs fans love wingers?
00:34:56They love wide players.
00:34:57They really seem to take you to their hearts.
00:35:00Yeah, I try to be different.
00:35:03And it's part of my game, getting the ball, checking players on and creating.
00:35:08So I'm glad that I'm in a team where I can do that freely also with the help of the teammates.
00:35:13I like to enjoy the game, entertain the fans because I believe that's what the game is about.
00:35:17You know, but at the same time also play with seriousness to have the team to get the points.
00:35:20And I'm glad they're hoping to do it.
00:35:22The medical department and the performance department worked extremely hard to get him into a good place.
00:35:27And we're still looking after him.
00:35:29His performance were all two fantastic goals.
00:35:31And the last goal, I think, was actually, as my analysis department told me, 17 passes.
00:35:37Everyone in the team touched the goal and then finished with an unbelievable finish.
00:35:40It was fantastic.
00:35:40Maybe Jonathan giving current players a history lesson about their clubs could become a theme over the course of this season.
00:35:48What impressed you most about Spurs today?
00:35:50How direct they were.
00:35:52They weren't afraid to play that long pass into the forward, but particularly the number of crosses they got into the box.
00:35:59And this was after about 90 seconds.
00:36:02No other thought than get the ball into the box.
00:36:04There's one.
00:36:05No other thought than cross the ball into the box.
00:36:08There's two.
00:36:08After a minute and a half.
00:36:11Same thing again.
00:36:12Exactly the same.
00:36:12Move the ball.
00:36:13Get the ball into the box.
00:36:14And that is a good save from De Brega.
00:36:16So that is showing their intentions of what they do.
00:36:20Kudos.
00:36:20OK.
00:36:20Josh Cullen should do a lot better.
00:36:22He's got to work harder to stop the cross.
00:36:24But one thing, again, is you move the ball like that, whip it in.
00:36:28And that is such a clever finish from Richarlene.
00:36:31Running away from the goal and the technique.
00:36:34I mentioned the direct passes.
00:36:35If you're going to leave yourself that open with that amount of space to play the ball through like Burnley did against good players, then you're going to get punished.
00:36:44Really good hold-up play from Richarlene.
00:36:47Then you go out to the other side and you find yourself in a really dangerous position.
00:36:51Again, keeper played the first one.
00:36:53Now the defender plays the second one.
00:36:55There's that position again.
00:36:56They're open again.
00:36:57They've got no protection really in front of that back five.
00:37:01Bergvall running off the ball as you have to do.
00:37:03Two wingers giving you the width that you need.
00:37:07And I mentioned balls into the box.
00:37:09Move the ball quickly and whip it in.
00:37:11No other thought than that.
00:37:12That is just sensational.
00:37:14It really is.
00:37:14It's an incredible finish.
00:37:16Same thing again.
00:37:18Open.
00:37:19No protection.
00:37:19That long ball into the forward again.
00:37:22Good hold-up play again.
00:37:23Runners off the ball.
00:37:24Johnson in behind.
00:37:26It's a really well-worked goal from Tottenham.
00:37:29But it's because they're thinking directly.
00:37:32Solanke comes on for Richarlene.
00:37:33Nothing changes.
00:37:34Cross into the box.
00:37:36He's unlucky not to get his goal as well.
00:37:39And what they also did is they adapted.
00:37:41They worked really well.
00:37:42They played five at the back in midweek against a really good team.
00:37:45They changed it today.
00:37:46They played four at the back today.
00:37:48And it worked for them perfectly.
00:37:49Burnley had their moments.
00:37:51But he'll be really, really pleased with the performance his team has put into it.
00:37:55And the players he changed around.
00:37:57I think what is also key is that if they can keep Richarlison fit.
00:38:01Because that's been a problem of theirs for a while now.
00:38:04If they can keep him fit.
00:38:05And it's a big if.
00:38:06He'll put in performances like that.
00:38:08Particularly if they're that direct.
00:38:09Well, if they can keep him fit.
00:38:11They're also looking to add to the squad.
00:38:13And this will be good news for Spurs fans.
00:38:15The BBC Sport website are reporting that the club will try to accelerate talks with Crystal Palace over the next 48 hours to sign Eberica Eze.
00:38:23So you can read more about that on the BBC Sport website.
00:38:27As far as Burnley are concerned, so much praise for their defence.
00:38:29We did that at the start.
00:38:31But as Scott Parker said, it's about being clinical as well and taking those chances when you have them.
00:38:36Yeah, the Premier League, you have to be clinical and when you get chances, it's important that you take them.
00:38:41And Burnley were in the game at 1-0.
00:38:43Burnley had some good moves, some really good chances.
00:38:47And they weren't ruthless enough.
00:38:48They weren't clinical enough.
00:38:49And they got punished.
00:38:50So I think for Burnley, it's a difficult afternoon, a tough start for them.
00:38:55But they did have the moment.
00:38:56But if you're not going to be clinical, then you're not going to get out of the game.
00:38:59OK, still to come, these two are going to give their thoughts on Alexander Isak.
00:39:03But there are three Premier League games to look forward to on tomorrow's Match of the Day.
00:39:10Come out!
00:39:12Perfection!
00:39:14Magnificent!
00:39:16Oh, what a goal!
00:39:18Kevin Chardet to stun the city grounds.
00:39:22It's a good try.
00:39:24That is superbly fired in by Declan Rice.
00:39:27You can listen to live commentary of all three games on BBC Sounds.
00:39:34Five Lives Premier League Sunday gets underway at midday.
00:39:36If you missed the start of the programme, you can watch from the beginning on iPlay.
00:39:40You can find highlights of all tomorrow's games on there from 8 o'clock.
00:39:43Straight after us here on BBC One, you can see a new series of football interviews.
00:39:47The first one is with Wayne.
00:39:49Blimey, you're taking over.
00:39:50And there's live Super League action tomorrow on BBC Two as Saints take on Huddersfield.
00:39:56And in Rugby Union, the Women's World Cup kicks off on Friday.
00:39:59The greatest players on earth come to England for the Women's Rugby World Cup.
00:40:04That is something special!
00:40:07Huge tackle!
00:40:09Absolute brilliance!
00:40:10Every pass, catch and every match.
00:40:14She's going to go for Harwin!
00:40:16An absolute beauty!
00:40:18This summer, the world will watch and names will be made.
00:40:22Incredible scenes!
00:40:24The Women's Rugby World Cup starts Friday, 6.30 on BBC One and iPlayer.
00:40:28Now, Fulham achieved their record Premier League points tally last season.
00:40:35They began their new campaign at Brighton and Simon Brotherton.
00:40:38Watch this.
00:40:40Carlos Beliba is fit and starts in the Brighton midfield,
00:40:43where the club are confident he'll stay.
00:40:45Maxime de Kuyper makes his debut at left-back after signing from Club Brugge
00:40:49and Jorginho Ruta spearheads the attack after missing the back end of last season.
00:40:54Fulham have a mostly familiar look after a quiet summer,
00:40:57with Anthony Robinson and Ryan Sessegnon both injured.
00:41:00Jorge Cuenca comes in at the back.
00:41:03Josh King makes his second-ever Premier League start
00:41:05and Raul Jimenez leads the attack.
00:41:07He scored the winner for Mexico in the Gold Cup final
00:41:10against the United States last month.
00:41:15This actually has been a tough fixture for Brighton in recent seasons.
00:41:20They've won only ten of the ten Premier League meetings against Fulham,
00:41:24which was the most recent one back in March.
00:41:31Beliba.
00:41:34Roars of approval from the stands.
00:41:36Mitoma.
00:41:38Late challenge by Lukic on him,
00:41:40but Brighton with de Kuyper, the debutant.
00:41:43First touch in the Premier League for him.
00:41:47Beliba surging forward.
00:41:48He's just gone out of play.
00:41:51I think.
00:41:51Maybe not.
00:41:53Slammed home by Jankouba Mente,
00:41:55but the flag went up straight away.
00:41:59And here you could clearly see the ball had gone out of play.
00:42:02Well, second season then for Fabian Herzler,
00:42:10Brighton's young head coach.
00:42:13Got Brighton to eight last season
00:42:16and hopes will be high.
00:42:20O'Reilly finding Mente.
00:42:22Faced by Cuenca.
00:42:25Looks promising for the home side.
00:42:27Matt O'Reilly's delivery.
00:42:29Mitoma!
00:42:29It's the best we've seen from Brighton
00:42:34in the opening half an hour.
00:42:37Well worked.
00:42:38Measured attacking passage of play.
00:42:43Tete into Wilson.
00:42:48Now, Josh King.
00:42:51Bit of room for Alex Iwobi.
00:42:53Finely crafted.
00:42:54Ball and King.
00:42:55Trying to squeeze it.
00:42:57Pass for Brogan at the near post.
00:43:00And Brighton's goalkeeper
00:43:01finally gets his hands on the ball.
00:43:06But it was almost an awkward moment there for the home side.
00:43:13Good ball to Kuyper.
00:43:14Collected by Ruter.
00:43:15Chased by Berger.
00:43:17Jorginho Ruter down.
00:43:19Brighton have got a penalty.
00:43:20Joachim Andersen and Sander Berger.
00:43:24The two players chasing back.
00:43:26Trying to halt Ruter's advance.
00:43:30It was Sander Berger tangled with the Brighton forward.
00:43:34It's O'Reilly against Leno.
00:43:44It's Brighton's first goal of the new season.
00:43:47Matt O'Reilly from 12 yards.
00:43:54Berger penalised.
00:43:56Referee Sam Barrett pointed to the spot.
00:43:59And Matt O'Reilly fires Brighton and Hove Albion into the lead.
00:44:03Now with Iwobi.
00:44:08Bassi continues his run forward.
00:44:10Challenged by Buleba.
00:44:12Referee had a clear blue.
00:44:13Shakes his head.
00:44:14Goal kick.
00:44:16Bassi felt that he was fouled.
00:44:18You can see the referee had a pretty clear view of it from the edge of the penalty area.
00:44:24On-field decision has been rapidly backed up by the video assistant referee, Matt Donoghue.
00:44:39Iwobi.
00:44:40Decent ball in.
00:44:41King tries to take it in his stride.
00:44:43In turn.
00:44:44Challenged in the box and down.
00:44:46And Fulham look frustrated.
00:44:49It will be checked for a possible penalty kick.
00:44:52The latest incident has been checked and cleared.
00:44:56Challenged by Yasin Ayari on Josh King.
00:45:00He's caught his heel as he went for the ball.
00:45:10Mitoma.
00:45:14Up against Anderson.
00:45:16Can't find Welbeck.
00:45:18This is Kearney.
00:45:20Interception made by Ayari.
00:45:22Urged to shoot by the crown.
00:45:28This is Diego Gomez.
00:45:30Oh, there's a lucky moment there for Leno.
00:45:36Brighton close to a second goal here.
00:45:38Straight at the keeper, but almost over the line.
00:45:41Grateful grab at the second attempt.
00:45:43Grateful grab at the second attempt.
00:45:51Lukic.
00:45:53Dispossessed.
00:45:55Gomez has it.
00:45:56Good running here.
00:45:57Brian Grudor.
00:45:58Brian Grudor.
00:45:59Well back.
00:46:03Pullen survived.
00:46:07This was not far away from 2-0.
00:46:10Brian Grudor.
00:46:11Right across the face of the goal.
00:46:13Deep in added time.
00:46:22There's a chance for Kenny Teta.
00:46:24What an opportunity for 1-1 right at the end of the game.
00:46:32What a chance that was.
00:46:37Fulham just have to get the ball forward and they have to do it quickly.
00:46:40Smith-Rowe.
00:46:44Emil Smith-Rowe.
00:46:45Just wide via a deflection.
00:46:47It's a corner.
00:46:49And Fulham haven't given up hope yet.
00:46:57Last few seconds of added time.
00:46:59Far post.
00:47:001-1.
00:47:01Rodrigo Muniz.
00:47:04A stunning end to the match.
00:47:07It's a goal from the Brazilian super sub.
00:47:10And it's 1-1 on the south coast.
00:47:15A point apiece.
00:47:16Victory slips through Brighton's hands.
00:47:20Rodrigo Muniz.
00:47:21Late drama.
00:47:22Late goal.
00:47:23Brighton won.
00:47:24Fulham won.
00:47:26Feels painful.
00:47:27But I think it's very important to take the positive things away.
00:47:30We played a really good game.
00:47:32We defended really good.
00:47:36I think there was not a clear chance for Fulham during the whole game.
00:47:38We created chances in the second half.
00:47:40If we could score, we should score the second goal.
00:47:43I think then the game would be over.
00:47:44But yeah, that's football.
00:47:46We have to accept it.
00:47:47It's painful.
00:47:48It feels not great.
00:47:49But we have to take the positive things away and focus on these things.
00:47:53It was very difficult to play here.
00:47:54I think we did control well in the first half.
00:47:58Of course, when they score from a penalty kick, the game was much more open and they had some
00:48:04moments in contra-attacks and balls that we lost.
00:48:07We showed the spirit to fight until the last minute and we were rewarded for that.
00:48:11It's always, when we come to play here, it's difficult.
00:48:16But like last season, we scored a lot the last 10 minutes, 15 minutes of the game.
00:48:21But yeah, I'm happy.
00:48:22Rodrigo, again, it's not the first time.
00:48:25It's not going to be the last for sure.
00:48:26That had a massive impact in the way you want to play and score an important goal for us.
00:48:32Well, Brighton obviously scored through a penalty.
00:48:34Fulham had a couple of claims themselves.
00:48:36Do you want to look at the more debatable one?
00:48:38Yeah, I think it's a difficult one for the referee.
00:48:43I think Fulham are obviously pushing and getting bodies in the box and the ball breaks
00:48:48and Josh King just gets there before the defender.
00:48:52And from this angle, you've definitely seen them give him.
00:48:56I think that could definitely be a penalty.
00:48:58But I think the reaction from the Fulham players around it, you know, it's not big enough.
00:49:03They need to convince the referee that that's a penalty.
00:49:05I don't think they do that enough.
00:49:06Because Ayari does look like he kicks his foot.
00:49:08So if you're in that situation as a teammate, are you going back to up?
00:49:12Oh, you want the penalty, yeah.
00:49:13Are you up? Are you up?
00:49:14Yeah, I just think it's not big enough where they can overturn it.
00:49:19I think I'd certainly be asking the question for a penalty if I was in that position.
00:49:23Don't think it's strong enough to overturn it.
00:49:24A couple of themes from that game that are quite similar to last season.
00:49:27First of all, Fulham having substitutes scoring goals for them and helping them out.
00:49:31But the other part, from a Brighton point of view, is they're not closing games out.
00:49:35Well, since the start of last season, they've led 11 times and they haven't won one game.
00:49:39And that probably cost them a place in Europe.
00:49:42Same thing happened again today.
00:49:43They had one big chance from Gruda to get that second goal.
00:49:46They didn't. And then they cost themselves in the last few minutes of the game.
00:49:51So that has to change for them going forward.
00:49:53Right. Newcastle went to Aston Villa off the back of a summer dominated by the future of that man behind us, Alexander Isak.
00:50:01Their thoughts on that to come.
00:50:02First, Robin Cowan at Villa Park.
00:50:04A new season always brings fresh hope.
00:50:09The bitter blow of falling short of Champions League qualification on the final day of last season will be a distant memory for Villa fans if they can start with a win against the side that pipped them to the post.
00:50:20There's a debuting goal for Marco Vizot, a summer edition from Brest, with Emi Martinez suspended.
00:50:26If it's been slow on the transfer front for Villa, Newcastle have been at the centre of the saga of the summer.
00:50:32Alexander Isak is unavailable after a so far unsuccessful push for a move elsewhere.
00:50:38Anthony Gordon still answers the number nine.
00:50:40Anthony Alanga makes his debut after making the switch from Nottingham Forest.
00:50:44Here's Thielemans trying to pick out Watkins.
00:50:58Giannale.
00:50:59Oh, Alanga will get on to this.
00:51:02Anthony Alanga with an effort at goal.
00:51:06That's a really smart stop from Vizot.
00:51:09Harvey Barnes goes down.
00:51:11Craig Pawson immediately waving the finger.
00:51:16And Gordon.
00:51:18Well, a flurry of chances.
00:51:23Fell very nicely for Alanga after a couple of Villa players clashed with each other.
00:51:28There was a really good save from the goalkeeper.
00:51:31Harvey Barnes going down.
00:51:33Under the challenge of Kamara.
00:51:36The referee had a good view of that.
00:51:38And then this effort from Gordon.
00:51:39deflected over by Matty Cash.
00:51:44But Unai Emery has led Aston Villa to Europe in all three seasons in charge.
00:51:49Another crack at the Europa League.
00:51:51This season, competition he's won four times as head coach.
00:51:55Joel Linton.
00:52:10Barnes with the cross over the top from Gordon.
00:52:15Barnes found Gordon beautifully here.
00:52:19Good movement as well.
00:52:21Not scored in the Premier League since January.
00:52:23Anthony Gordon.
00:52:27Alanga.
00:52:28Gimmeraich.
00:52:29Foul.
00:52:31With Dean preventing Alanga from getting on to the return ball.
00:52:34Whipped in.
00:52:45It's going to find Gimmeraich unmarked.
00:52:48Wouldn't quite fall for Barnes.
00:52:49It's Gordon.
00:52:51Shoveled away by Bizzot.
00:52:52Villa a little slow to get to each one of these second balls, you've got to say.
00:53:05It's not been a very fruitful pre-season along with the Alexander Isaac saga.
00:53:09With six pre-season friendlies, four defeats, two draws, and quite a lot of anxiety.
00:53:18Villa failed to have an attempt on goal in the first 45 minutes.
00:53:26Tielemans now cash.
00:53:28Burns clearance straight out for a corner inside the first 40 seconds.
00:53:43Taken short.
00:53:45Works to John McGinn.
00:53:47Drop of the shoulder.
00:53:48Header straight at Nick Pope.
00:53:54Nicely worked.
00:53:56Bubakar Kamara making good contact, but directing it straight at the goalkeeper.
00:54:05Banana finds Tielemans.
00:54:08Quickly on to Rodgers.
00:54:10Watkins!
00:54:10Watkins!
00:54:11First real sight on goal.
00:54:19Straight at the goalkeeper.
00:54:21That has given Aston Villa a little bit of encouragement.
00:54:23Rodgers finding John McGinn.
00:54:31Cash.
00:54:34Another pullback towards the penalty area.
00:54:37This could prove costly.
00:54:39Anthony Gordon in behind.
00:54:41Now, Esri Konza.
00:54:43He's going to be sent off.
00:54:45He's gone, surely.
00:54:49Decision confirmed.
00:54:50I really don't see how he can have any complaints about that at all.
00:54:54Very strange decision by Esri Konza.
00:54:59Konza off.
00:55:00Villa down to ten.
00:55:03And they hand the advantage to Newcastle United.
00:55:06Jason Tindall sent off when they met Aston Villa at St James' Park on Boxing Day, provoking
00:55:14a 20-man tunnel brawl.
00:55:17And the Wham hoodie reportedly escalated the situation on that day.
00:55:22Livramento.
00:55:24Oh, Anthony Gordon.
00:55:26Oh, Anthony Gordon.
00:55:31Closest to it, but not close in the end.
00:55:34Kim O'Reich.
00:55:39Kim O'Reich.
00:55:46Gordon.
00:55:51It's Barnes.
00:55:53The rustiness has been evident for both sides.
00:56:00And the narrative is going to be that Newcastle lack a goal scorer.
00:56:06They have one on their books in the building, but not here.
00:56:09Will he still be with Newcastle at the end of the transfer window?
00:56:14I thought today we answered a few questions in terms of our spirit and our fight to show
00:56:19that we're still a force in the league and we can compete.
00:56:21Now it's only one game.
00:56:23We have to do that regularly and consistently like we always have done.
00:56:26But we look forward to the challenges ahead.
00:56:28After the red card, of course, we were a little bit more with the necessity to defence
00:56:35and to be in the commitment we did.
00:56:37But overall, the most important is how we responded in all the issues that happened on the field.
00:56:44So I am very proud of our work and I am not happy with one point only, but I accept it.
00:56:49I'm sure it's been an amazingly stressful summer for you already.
00:56:52I mean, how much do you want a resolution to the Alexander-Izak situation and also,
00:56:56you know, I guess the transfer window in general?
00:56:59Yeah, I think from my perspective as manager of the team, you want a resolution quickly
00:57:02because you don't want any distraction, taking away the focus of the players,
00:57:05taking away the focus of our supporters.
00:57:07We want everyone helping the team as much as we can and we want to be united together.
00:57:11So, yeah, we'd like a resolution, but we're not in control of that.
00:57:16So we'll see what happens in the coming days.
00:57:18Well, of course, all the focus is on Newcastle at the moment and how they attack
00:57:22and Alexander-Izak.
00:57:23Before we get to him, did that front three today give you encouragement?
00:57:27They certainly caused them problems.
00:57:29And given the circumstances, I think the performance from the front three
00:57:33and the rest of the team actually would give me encouragement going forward
00:57:37in the circumstances that, through no fault of their own, they're having to deal with.
00:57:42I thought their attitude was excellent.
00:57:43They look far fitter than Aston Villa, stronger than Aston Villa,
00:57:48and they certainly created more chances than Aston Villa.
00:57:51But the big thing is they didn't take them.
00:57:53But when you've got the pace that Newcastle have up top
00:57:56and when Gordon's having to play up front, it was a great run,
00:57:59which then creates the space for Alanga to run into.
00:58:02Very good ball from Tonali, and he should score.
00:58:06I think there's no doubt about that.
00:58:08Again, they work it really well.
00:58:10Bardens eventually gets the ball and whips a good ball in.
00:58:13And Anthony Gordon finds himself in a good position.
00:58:15He just can't direct the header there.
00:58:18Look, he does whip a good ball in.
00:58:21And again, he should do better.
00:58:23They're pressing, I thought, from every Newcastle player.
00:58:26The energy that they showed was excellent.
00:58:29Similar thing again, using his pace to get his shot away.
00:58:32OK, it doesn't work for them.
00:58:35Second half, when you're going to go that tight
00:58:37and leave that much space with the pace that these two have got,
00:58:40good ball in from Alanga, and it's a clear red card.
00:58:43Konter has to go.
00:58:44He brings him down, red card.
00:58:46Then you're thinking, OK, go on, kick on.
00:58:48They can't actually do that.
00:58:49But I think a centre-forward actually gets on the end of this
00:58:53because he just, his reaction, he just goes that split second
00:58:57too late, does Anthony Gordon.
00:59:00But in terms of performance, particularly first half,
00:59:03you can see they absolutely battered Aston Villa.
00:59:05What do you both think?
00:59:06Eddie Howe converted Joel Linton into a midfielder.
00:59:10So is there, would you give any credence to the thought
00:59:12that given his coaching ability
00:59:14and how he can spot versatility in a player,
00:59:16he could turn one of that front three, Gordon at this stage,
00:59:19into a centre-forward?
00:59:21No, I don't think so.
00:59:22And I think for Anthony Gordon as well,
00:59:24I think his best position is outwards
00:59:25and that's where he looks more of a danger.
00:59:28So I think what's clear is Newcastle need a centre-forward,
00:59:31whether that is Isaac Steyn at the football club,
00:59:33which could be difficult now,
00:59:35or they bring a centre-forward in
00:59:37because you get more out of especially Gordon
00:59:39and Alanga just going to the football club,
00:59:41playing from wide areas.
00:59:43So where are you at then with Alexander Issa?
00:59:45Before we come back to him, where are you with it?
00:59:48Yeah, I think it's a difficult one.
00:59:50I think with Issa,
00:59:51I think he has to go about it the right way
00:59:54and there's ways of leaving a football club.
00:59:56That's where the football club wants to get with you
00:59:58and if you want to leave to go to a different club,
01:00:00there's the right way to do it.
01:00:02And I've been there myself
01:00:03where I've asked to leave Manchester United
01:00:04in my career at times
01:00:07and you have to do it the right way
01:00:10and you have to be professional about it.
01:00:12But you put in a transfer request,
01:00:14you didn't refuse to train,
01:00:15you didn't refuse to play.
01:00:17So there is a way to do it
01:00:18and Alex is not going about it the right way at all.
01:00:23And you have to feel sorry for the players and the manager.
01:00:25The players today are busting the gut
01:00:27for the football club,
01:00:28for the thousands of fans
01:00:30that have travelled all that way to Villa Park today.
01:00:32They're giving their all,
01:00:33yet they're looking at another player,
01:00:35wherever he is,
01:00:37refusing to play,
01:00:38despite having a three-year contract
01:00:40and on to over 100 grand a week,
01:00:43whereas they're paying 60 or 70 quid for a ticket,
01:00:4630 quid for petrol or a train ticket
01:00:48to get there and back.
01:00:49I mean, you can imagine the anger
01:00:51that they're feeling
01:00:52that someone is taking the liberty
01:00:55of saying,
01:00:55I'm refusing to play.
01:00:57You just can't do that
01:00:59when you've got a three-year contract.
01:01:01I think for the fans,
01:01:02the fans especially,
01:01:04obviously you know better than anyone,
01:01:05the Geordies,
01:01:06I think they're a passionate fan base
01:01:08and it's going to be hard for them to come back,
01:01:09but also for his teammates.
01:01:11I think as a teammate,
01:01:14I think you expect your teammates
01:01:16to come in and train every day,
01:01:18to give everything on the training pitch,
01:01:19to give everything when you pull a shirt on
01:01:21to go and play
01:01:22and the fact that he's refusing to come in and train,
01:01:25I think it's going to be very difficult
01:01:27to come back and influence his teammates.
01:01:28Is that the difference?
01:01:30Within the professional football squad,
01:01:32is that the difference for you?
01:01:33So you asked to leave Manchester United,
01:01:35but you still train and play.
01:01:37Therefore, when everything's sorted
01:01:38and you do sign a new contract,
01:01:40it's handshakes and you're back, is it?
01:01:43Whereas if you're not training and not playing,
01:01:47there's a trust element there.
01:01:48Is that what you're saying?
01:01:49Yeah, there is a trust element
01:01:50and I think he's just going about it the wrong way.
01:01:54Maybe he's getting advised wrongly
01:01:55but also for the team who's trying to sign him,
01:01:58which obviously it looks like it's Liverpool
01:02:00who's trying to sign him,
01:02:02you have to wonder,
01:02:03is that the sort of player you want
01:02:04who is going to desert his teammates,
01:02:05who is going to walk away from a huge football club?
01:02:09And it's a good opportunity if Liverpool are there
01:02:10but it has to be done in the right way
01:02:12and I don't think it is.
01:02:13I also understand there's two sides to every story
01:02:15and we've never heard anything from him or his side yet.
01:02:18It's all leaks or reports coming from,
01:02:21briefings coming from other people.
01:02:25But what I would also say is,
01:02:27at the minute,
01:02:28there is still a chance,
01:02:31albeit a small chance,
01:02:32that he could be integrated back into the team
01:02:34if he says sorry,
01:02:36if he wants to do that.
01:02:37I don't know.
01:02:38It's unlikely that that's the case
01:02:39but if it gets past the transfer deadline day
01:02:43and there's still an impasse
01:02:45and it's a deadlock
01:02:46and no one's budging
01:02:47and he's still at Newcastle,
01:02:48I can't see a way back then
01:02:49because it's, well,
01:02:50I have to be here
01:02:51and I have to be here
01:02:52because no one else does,
01:02:54we've not found a solution to it.
01:02:55Newcastle have not been able to bring
01:02:57the two centre forwards in they need
01:02:59for him to then,
01:03:00to be able to leave.
01:03:02Right.
01:03:03To Friday night's game next,
01:03:05Liverpool open their title defence
01:03:06against Bournemouth.
01:03:07Steve Wilson at Hampton.
01:03:11Anfield's fame is forged upon emotion
01:03:13and tonight it is Red Raw.
01:03:17The start of a new season,
01:03:18the defence of a title should be
01:03:20an occasion for joy
01:03:21but there's very little joy here
01:03:24for there is no Jota here,
01:03:27just his song ringing around the stadium
01:03:30and a profound sense of loss
01:03:32which will linger for a long, long time.
01:03:36But there is a game to be won and lost.
01:03:39Liverpool's extravagance of spending
01:03:41may not have stopped yet
01:03:42but there are four new faces,
01:03:45Werth, Frimpong, Ekitike and Kerkhez
01:03:47who lines up against his former club.
01:03:49Gravenberg is suspended.
01:03:51McAllister for Jones,
01:03:52the only change for the community shield.
01:03:55Kerkhez was one of three defenders
01:03:57to leave Bournemouth in the window.
01:03:59You'd imagine there'd be more incomings for them
01:04:01before the end of the month.
01:04:03Petrovic is their new goalkeeper.
01:04:05Truffaut and Diakite make debuts in defence.
01:04:08Iriola's side have only lost two
01:04:10of their last 13 away league games.
01:04:16We will now observe a period of silence
01:04:20in memory of Diogo Jota,
01:04:23our Forever 20
01:04:24and his beloved brother, Andre Silva.
01:04:27The silence will begin and end
01:04:29on the referee's whistle.
01:04:30A beautiful tribute
01:04:51to Andre Silva
01:04:54and Diogo Jota.
01:04:56Werds to Frimpong.
01:05:09Oh, Van Dijk!
01:05:13That's a good chance that
01:05:15Ekitike may almost have clouded
01:05:18Van Dijk's vision there.
01:05:21Brooks, Truffaut.
01:05:23Delivering the cross.
01:05:28Canate heading away
01:05:30as Alex Scott tried to nod it
01:05:31back into the danger area
01:05:32and there's a break on here.
01:05:34Oh, Ekitike can't quite
01:05:36take it with him.
01:05:38They're asking for handball, Liverpool.
01:05:42And Anthony Taylor
01:05:44has stopped play
01:05:45and given Bournemouth
01:05:48a free kick.
01:05:49And it came off
01:05:50Sanessi's thigh
01:05:51onto his arm.
01:05:53That second movement
01:05:54was
01:05:55what roused
01:05:57Liverpool's suspicions.
01:06:0220 minutes played
01:06:03and
01:06:03Diogo Jota,
01:06:06the
01:06:06number 20,
01:06:09has been retired
01:06:10in his honour.
01:06:12And his name
01:06:13is being sung
01:06:14all around
01:06:15Anfield.
01:06:16Anthony Taylor
01:06:18is heading off
01:06:21in the direction
01:06:22of the touchline
01:06:25here.
01:06:28Both Areola
01:06:29and
01:06:30Slott
01:06:31are interested
01:06:31in what's being said
01:06:33here.
01:06:36Well, we understand
01:06:37that there was an
01:06:38allegation
01:06:39that there was a
01:06:40racist comment
01:06:40towards
01:06:41on transfer menu
01:06:42by somebody
01:06:43in the crowd.
01:06:47A little over
01:06:48ten minutes
01:06:48to go in the half.
01:06:49It's not been
01:06:49littered with
01:06:50opportunities.
01:06:51Van Dijk's header
01:06:51over the bar
01:06:53early on.
01:06:54Maybe Liverpool's
01:06:55best.
01:07:00Oh, and
01:07:01that's missed.
01:07:02I'm really well
01:07:02got away from
01:07:03McAllister
01:07:03and it's scuffed.
01:07:05It's a brilliant
01:07:06chance for Marcus
01:07:07Tavernier
01:07:07and he scuffed it
01:07:09straight into
01:07:09Alisson's
01:07:10grateful gloves.
01:07:11That's the best
01:07:12chance of the game.
01:07:13Liverpool,
01:07:20for all that
01:07:20they are champions
01:07:22or maybe because
01:07:23they were already
01:07:24champions,
01:07:24have actually gone
01:07:25five games without
01:07:27winning.
01:07:27Their last victory
01:07:28was the 23rd of
01:07:29April.
01:07:30A 5-1 victory
01:07:31over Spurs here.
01:07:32Ekitike trying to
01:07:34bundle through
01:07:34and he has
01:07:35and he scores.
01:07:41A first
01:07:41Anfield goal
01:07:42for
01:07:43Ugo
01:07:44Ekitike
01:07:45and Liverpool
01:07:47are in front
01:07:48and it's 2-2 in the
01:07:51red jersey for him
01:07:52and he's involved in
01:07:54the build-up.
01:07:57Receives it back,
01:07:58wriggles through
01:07:59and tucks it away
01:08:02nicely.
01:08:03A little bit of
01:08:04fortune maybe the way
01:08:05he got through
01:08:05Sonesi
01:08:06but once he's in
01:08:08that position
01:08:08it's a very tidy
01:08:10finish indeed.
01:08:12The number 20.
01:08:13three years ago
01:08:17almost to the
01:08:18week
01:08:18Bournemouth
01:08:19will beat
01:08:199-0 here
01:08:21somewhat surprisingly
01:08:22Mohamed Salah
01:08:23played all 90 minutes
01:08:24of that game
01:08:25without scoring.
01:08:27Ekitike
01:08:28looking for room
01:08:31and still
01:08:32and finding some
01:08:33and doubling
01:08:39Liverpool's lead.
01:08:43Well when Gakpo
01:08:44receives this
01:08:45he's still got a lot
01:08:46to do.
01:08:47Thought about shooting
01:08:47there
01:08:48thought about shooting
01:08:49again
01:08:49and when he did
01:08:50he found the corner
01:08:52all about composure
01:08:54waiting
01:08:54for the opportunity
01:08:56to come
01:08:57and then finding
01:08:59the finish.
01:09:03Super-sized flick
01:09:04was snuffed out
01:09:06and that's a good
01:09:06ball into Brooks
01:09:07running in behind
01:09:09Kunate
01:09:09Semenya's in the middle
01:09:11and has scored
01:09:12it's a great
01:09:15counter-attacking goal
01:09:16and Bournemouth
01:09:17are back in the game
01:09:18such a good goal
01:09:21Brooks is onside
01:09:23by the look of that
01:09:24and it's a great ball
01:09:26perfect for Semenya
01:09:27and Alisson
01:09:29couldn't keep it out
01:09:30it's Liverpool 2
01:09:32it's Bournemouth 1
01:09:33and you'd be hard-pressed
01:09:34to say they don't
01:09:35deserve it.
01:09:36Salah
01:09:42couldn't reach it
01:09:44Traore
01:09:44to Semenya
01:09:45and here go Bournemouth
01:09:47on the counter again
01:09:47Antoine Semenya
01:09:49Evan Nielsen to his right
01:09:50Tavernier to his left
01:09:51he's got to go left
01:09:52surely
01:09:53he goes alone
01:09:53and scores brilliantly
01:09:55it's 2-2
01:09:57and Semenya
01:10:00has both Bournemouth goals
01:10:01what a comeback
01:10:03what about this
01:10:05running from way
01:10:06inside
01:10:06his own half
01:10:07of the field
01:10:08a quite brilliant
01:10:09individual goal
01:10:10the runners
01:10:12right and left
01:10:13just scattered
01:10:15uncertainty
01:10:15in the minds
01:10:16of Liverpool defenders
01:10:17and Semenya
01:10:19went straight down
01:10:20the middle
01:10:20it's 2-2
01:10:22Alisson from
01:10:28almost the halfway
01:10:28line
01:10:29finding Sobosite
01:10:30Mohamed Salah
01:10:31oh lovely ball
01:10:33Jones nearly
01:10:33got onto it
01:10:34a bit of a mess
01:10:35and in
01:10:36from Chiesa
01:10:37almost Liverpool's
01:10:43forgotten man
01:10:43but Federico Chiesa
01:10:46might have won
01:10:46this game for them
01:10:47it's an awkward
01:10:50hike for the Italian
01:10:51this and we control
01:10:52it well
01:10:53that's a really
01:10:58good finish
01:10:58and it's Liverpool
01:11:013
01:11:01it's Bournemouth
01:11:032
01:11:03Chiesa
01:11:05with 2 minutes
01:11:08to go
01:11:08Joe Gomez
01:11:11underneath this
01:11:12with Hamed Traore
01:11:13Bournemouth aren't
01:11:16quite beaten yet
01:11:17Endo
01:11:17Chiesa might have
01:11:20been offside
01:11:20Salah isn't
01:11:21Salah's got there
01:11:23ahead of Hill
01:11:23Mohamed Salah
01:11:24here
01:11:254 in the middle
01:11:26for him
01:11:26Salah
01:11:27and that'll do it
01:11:29Mohamed Salah's
01:11:3910th goal on the opening day
01:11:42of a Premier League season
01:11:43that is a league record
01:11:46and it secures the points
01:11:49and it secures the points for the champions
01:11:50look at this
01:11:55brilliant
01:11:56how far has he run
01:11:57in comparison to those
01:11:59blue-shirted defenders
01:12:01to get there first
01:12:02that's brilliant play
01:12:04by Mohamed Salah
01:12:06and Liverpool
01:12:11start with
01:12:13a win
01:12:13a hard-earned victory
01:12:16lots of emotion
01:12:18whirling around
01:12:19Anfield
01:12:20along with
01:12:22the song
01:12:23of Diogo Jota
01:12:24at the end of an emotional night
01:12:27Liverpool 4
01:12:30Bournemouth 2
01:12:31We play against a team
01:12:33that never gives up
01:12:34very fit
01:12:36last season
01:12:37they were top of every chart
01:12:38when it comes to running stats
01:12:39and again
01:12:40they were very impressive
01:12:41in that sense
01:12:43today
01:12:43the way they
01:12:44counter-attacked us
01:12:45with the second goal
01:12:46they scored
01:12:46for example
01:12:46that shows you
01:12:48that you have to give credit
01:12:49to them as well
01:12:50but
01:12:50they face a team
01:12:52that's really fit as well
01:12:53last season
01:12:54but this season again
01:12:55and although we've lost
01:12:56many players
01:12:57the mentality
01:12:58to come back
01:12:59after a disappointment
01:13:00is still there
01:13:01also with the new ones
01:13:02even when we scored
01:13:03the 2-2
01:13:03I think we were
01:13:04with
01:13:05look like we were
01:13:05with a little bit more
01:13:06of energy
01:13:07but it's true
01:13:08that you never know
01:13:09against Liverpool
01:13:09because when they really need
01:13:10they find an extra
01:13:12energy boost
01:13:14and
01:13:14probably third goal
01:13:17we go
01:13:19both players
01:13:20to the same ball
01:13:21we leave the ball there
01:13:22it's true
01:13:22that it's a great
01:13:23finish
01:13:23but it's a shame
01:13:24because we've been
01:13:25really really close
01:13:26for my goal
01:13:27it took me one year
01:13:28to score in the Premier League
01:13:29but
01:13:29we say in Italian
01:13:31I don't know
01:13:32if you can say this in English
01:13:33but better late than never
01:13:34oh yeah
01:13:35yeah it's the same
01:13:36it's the same in English
01:13:37okay better late than ever
01:13:38we understand that
01:13:39Antoine was the victim
01:13:40of some racial
01:13:42comments from the crowd
01:13:43that's horrendous
01:13:44yes I didn't notice life
01:13:46but straight away Antoine
01:13:48and the referee
01:13:48told us
01:13:49the person has been
01:13:50identified
01:13:51and obviously
01:13:52it's a big shame
01:13:53these things continue happening
01:13:55the first game of the Premier League
01:13:58everyone watching
01:13:59it's a lovely game of football
01:14:01and that we have to talk about
01:14:03these things still today
01:14:04I think it's really a big shame
01:14:06it's obvious that we don't want this in football
01:14:09that there's nothing we can say
01:14:11that how we feel about this
01:14:13and we don't want this in football
01:14:14but we definitely don't want this at Anfield
01:14:16and unfortunately
01:14:18that's now part of the story
01:14:19because for the rest
01:14:20we should talk about
01:14:21how a great tribute there was for Diogo
01:14:23what our fans did for him
01:14:25for his family
01:14:26with the great banner
01:14:27and the way they sang
01:14:28and never walk alone
01:14:29and all of these things
01:14:30but let's be clear
01:14:31the club had a clear statement
01:14:34and this should never happen in football
01:14:37let alone at Anfield
01:14:38it was such an emotional moving night
01:14:41that Anfield
01:14:42and Antoine Semenya
01:14:43has posted on Instagram
01:14:44today about what happened to him
01:14:46last night
01:14:47saying that it will stay with him forever
01:14:49but not because of one person's words
01:14:52but more how the entire football family
01:14:55stood together
01:14:56and Merseyside Police have confirmed today
01:14:58that they've arrested a 47 year old man
01:15:00on suspicion
01:15:01of a racially aggravated
01:15:03public order offence
01:15:05as far as the game itself was concerned
01:15:09Liverpool look like
01:15:11they're going to be very entertaining
01:15:12to watch this season
01:15:14as to Bournemouth actually to be fair
01:15:16yeah Bournemouth were very very good
01:15:18they're never going to fail to score goals
01:15:19I don't think Liverpool
01:15:20but at the moment
01:15:21they look very very vulnerable
01:15:23in the turnover of possession
01:15:25in terms of counter-attack goals
01:15:27and after 38 games last season
01:15:30they conceded two
01:15:31after counter-attacks
01:15:32after one game this season
01:15:33they've conceded two
01:15:35look there
01:15:35Kirk has got a clue where he is
01:15:37that should have been
01:15:38they should have scored two goals
01:15:39and went 2-0 up Bournemouth
01:15:41by on similar occasions
01:15:43and doing that
01:15:44okay
01:15:45it doesn't quite work here
01:15:46with that first pass
01:15:48they've got 3v3 there
01:15:49first pass doesn't work
01:15:51but Liverpool are all over the place
01:15:54defensively
01:15:55watch Canard here
01:15:56he hasn't got a clue
01:15:57what's going on behind him
01:15:58and I said they're very vulnerable
01:16:00particularly down the sides
01:16:01and behind either full-back
01:16:03there's Kirk S there
01:16:04he's on their way to attack
01:16:06when they haven't even got possession
01:16:07which means he's 5 or 6 yards
01:16:09out of position
01:16:10I mean that is an unbelievable ball
01:16:12and a great finish
01:16:13but Liverpool are all over
01:16:14defensively
01:16:15the balance doesn't look right at all
01:16:17they change the full-backs
01:16:18Robertson comes on
01:16:20and Endo comes on
01:16:21Curtis Jones is attacking
01:16:22into the box
01:16:23runs straight past Bournemouth players
01:16:25they lose the ball up
01:16:26they've got 8 players
01:16:27in that 18-yard box
01:16:29and all of a sudden
01:16:30they've got 4v2
01:16:31it's an unbelievable run
01:16:33but look at how many players
01:16:35Liverpool players
01:16:36are out of position
01:16:37it's a great finish again
01:16:39the balance doesn't look right
01:16:40at all
01:16:41ok they score 2 late goals
01:16:42to go on and win the game
01:16:44but that's what I mentioned there
01:16:45when you look at it
01:16:46I think that is incredible
01:16:48counter-attack goals
01:16:49last season too
01:16:50already 2 this season
01:16:51so there's work to be done
01:16:53on that side of things
01:16:54further forward
01:16:55you were impressed with
01:16:55Ekotiki weren't you?
01:16:57yeah I thought he had a really good game
01:16:59and obviously involved
01:17:00in the first two goals
01:17:01but what I really liked
01:17:02about this game is
01:17:03he comes short at times
01:17:04he ran in behind
01:17:05here he comes short
01:17:06then he carries on
01:17:07and he lays the ball off
01:17:09and then he gets in the box
01:17:10he wants to get on
01:17:10on the end of crosses
01:17:12again here
01:17:13comes short
01:17:13comes off the defence
01:17:14good pass out wide
01:17:16first thought
01:17:18gets in the box
01:17:18Salah has a shot
01:17:22doesn't cross it
01:17:23but he's making
01:17:23the right movement
01:17:24but what I like about this one
01:17:25it's a double movement
01:17:26he lays it off
01:17:27he goes to goal again
01:17:28and then he stays short
01:17:29now he's keeping
01:17:31the ball with defenders guessing
01:17:32and now he sees the space
01:17:34and he makes that
01:17:34running behind
01:17:35gets a little bit of luck
01:17:36which he deserved
01:17:37and then a cool finish
01:17:38at the end of it
01:17:39and again here
01:17:41being in the middle of the goal
01:17:42I think it's really important
01:17:44good cross
01:17:44should do better
01:17:45should get another goal
01:17:46and this one
01:17:48good composure
01:17:49makes the corner run
01:17:50holds the ball up well
01:17:52he's got the composure
01:17:53to see his team mate
01:17:54lovely way to pass
01:17:55gap pro
01:17:56really calm
01:17:58and composed
01:17:58so I think
01:17:59it's a very good debut
01:18:01for them
01:18:01and involved in two goals
01:18:03and Alan
01:18:04you tweeted last night
01:18:05why would you want to
01:18:06move to Anfield now
01:18:07to be Eka TK's understudy
01:18:08I can't imagine
01:18:09why you did that
01:18:11let's just show you
01:18:13the league table
01:18:13before we go
01:18:14even though not
01:18:15everybody's played yet
01:18:16Manchester City
01:18:17have had their best
01:18:18start to a season
01:18:19for six years
01:18:21one of four teams
01:18:21to take maximum points
01:18:23so far
01:18:23at the other end
01:18:24Wolves sit bottom
01:18:26after making their
01:18:27worst start to a league
01:18:28campaign for 22 years
01:18:29but there's a long
01:18:31way to go
01:18:33so from today's game
01:18:35Sunderland were on first
01:18:36but already
01:18:37Liverpool and Manchester City
01:18:39are up and running
01:18:39and both scored four
01:18:41so I suppose you could say
01:18:42the more things change
01:18:44the more things stay the same
01:18:45Gabby's here tomorrow
01:18:46good night
01:18:47the greatest players on earth
01:19:15come to England
01:19:16for the women's rugby world
